I've bought the dress for my sons wedding

Well this weekend with the help of my daughter and future DIL I finally after weeks of looking on my own bought a posh dress for my sons wedding.

I tried on so many you would not believe and the one I liked the girls didn't.

I wanted a floaty dress with short sleeves styled down to my calf and I have bought a blue coloured (I never wear blue) retro snug fitting calf length number which I am now wondering is too modern.

The girls in their 30s said it looked great on me and I should show off my figure but I'm now getting cold feet. Thing is it would be difficult to take back as I bought it in Swindon which is 4 hours drive away.

Hubby hasn't seen it and I know he will not like it but daughter says who cares he'll not be wearing it.

I dress casual all the time and live in jeans, never dress up the most I'd do is black trousers and a nice top for New Years Eve or Christmas.

What do you think.

Indeed you did! Why is it the most expensive one always looks nicer? <sigh>

Mamie Tue 16-Jul-13 14:48:43

I don't think you would need to accessorise much. Maybe a cream pashmina and cream sandals?

ticktock Tue 16-Jul-13 14:52:19

That's true. Do you have pictures of any pashminas/sandals you have in mind?

Mamie Tue 16-Jul-13 14:57:26

I just Googled pashmina and loads came up, but you would need to see the colour of the dress to see if it is cream, ivory or white. Sandals that suit you, but go for comfort too. For my son's wedding I had really high heels and we had to walk across town from the car park in 40 degrees.

How about this dress, tocktock? Not sure about the colour of the jacket though.

Or this seems a bit more formal.

Number3

Hello, I'm new to Gransnet. jeanie99 that dress sounds lovely, it's nice to dress up every now and then.

I like dresses, but often find myself wearing trouser suits. But it's quite hard to find trouser suits in the department stores. I've only found this one from Jacques Vert.

Ticktok another vote for 3 but I also love 4 - very special. Only 10 days to go now until I am MOB. Have still not found a hat so will have French Roll and flowers as above.

Gally Wed 17-Jul-13 12:18:30

For what it's worth - 3 or 4. I think I like 4 more!
1 is not weddingy enough and 2 is too 'bridal'! However, only you can decide - good luck grin

I favour number 4 too. It's beautiful and I find Jacques Vert clothing to be very well made and sort of timeless.

2 and 4. 2 is very stylish and can be worn at other times, and 4 lives up to the occasion, but I guess with a suitable jacket could be worn for an evening out.

Gagagran Wed 17-Jul-13 14:32:41

No 3 is my favourite but like 4 also. Agree with Gally about 1 and 2. smile

No 3, but with a smart cardigan or jacket not a pashmina!
number I'm sure you looked lovely!

Nos 3 & 4 would be favourite for me tending to go more for No.4 would look spectacular with large brimmed hat.shoes & bag Jacques vert do some lovely little Balero type jackets to match up the colours.

Another vote for number 3! I like no 4 but you obviously have much better arms than me. I'd have to have a little bolero or jacket to go over it. If the heat continues you may need to think of investing in a matching fan grin. I've got a wedding in Aug too and I've bought this dress: http://www.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/phase-eight/All-Sale/Francesca-Dress/202264250
I've got a white jacket which has miraculously lasted through countless occasions and goes well with it. It's quite a bold colour but I think it looks ok. The ruching hides the tummy in any case. I don't do floaty or pastels very well!

That's a gorgeous dress Lynda. smile

Thanks Grannyknot smile It was an impulse buy but for a change actually worked out. I'm usually terrible at changing my mind and am always returning things!

LyndaW By coincidence my Phase 8 'Mother of the Bride Dress' is on the same page as yours. Mine is Jardine Rose. Only 3 days to go now till my DD (also Linda)'s big day. Been to the venue and paid the bill today, a few pounds lighter after that grin

Just an update girls

The wedding was a great success and so was the dress and shoes, in fact after seeing what others were wearing I would have looked really dowdy in the dress I would have bought.

Even my husband who never makes much of a comment said I looked sexy in it and that's really is breakthru comment for him.
