Hide or Flaunt?

This summer, rather than hide my less than perfect lower pins in a long skirt or trousers, I am wearing short skirts with bare legs in spite of the skinny calves, veins and lumps and bumps being on show.

The other day I noticed a friend was wearing a sleeveless tee shirt even though she has quite marked flabby upper arms.

I thought we were quite brave because it goes against our early training.

Just wondered what other Gnetters do; hide or flaunt?

I live in a seaside town and in the summer do we see some sights. There is no reason why people of a certain age shouldn't wear shorts, t-shirts, swimming suits et. But within reason please. Bikinis should only be worn by the young and trim. We don't need to see evidence of your many operations, massive mounds of flesh over your stomach, varicose veins that needing looking into etc. Men with massive stomachs - cover it up please. I know you will all hit me around the head with your handbags for saying this, but I see this all the time on the beach and it quite ruins my day.grin I secretly admire people who don't give a damn and wear what the hell they like.

Deedaa Tue 06-Aug-13 23:40:31

I always follow the rule that if you show your legs you cover your cleavage and vice versa....

NfkDumpling Wed 07-Aug-13 20:18:24

That's a good rule - mostly - slight problem - on the cleavage front (lack of) and legs (too much of).

I don't wear shorts. Last week a friend persuaded me to buy a Summer dress in a charity shop, then persuaded me to go to the pub with her. As it is an XS it didn't fit over my bra (which is a 'B') so I went braless (I'm an 'A'). That was a 'first' for me, and the next 'first' was accepting a drink from a guy I had only met that evening. It must have looked OK!

Well - at the age of 60 I've discovered - dresses! I've avoided them in the past, as being an apple shape I tended to look pregnant. Maxi dresses are brilliant - cool, comfortable and fashionable. I've also got (wait for it) a short dress with no sleeves!!!!!!! Yes I have arm wings that could fly a jumbo jet and a few veins on my legs - but on holiday or with family I just dont care any more. There are women younger than me who go out with most of their bras showing, enormous jelly bellies and wearing short shorts when they have legs like elephants! Oh, and slightly off topic - on holiday in Spain this year I didnt wear any make up!!!!

Good for you marymouse I tend to be much more daring on holiday than I would be at home. I couldn't bring myself to wear a bikini even though I was probably the only person woman in our hotel who wasn't. My DH says I am crazy and "not fat at all" (bless him) but the mirror tells me otherwise so no bikini for me. I never wear makeup on holiday either, well maybe a bit lippy but thats all!

The no make up bit was quite liberating (as long as I didnt look in the mirror). The great thing is you havent go to faff about taking it all off every night either.

I have discovered dresses in my 60s too. My problem area is my tummy/muffin top. Some of the dresses about now have hidden panels
that suck you in. Have been chuffed to bits with them, they don't look too bad at all.

MaryXYZ Good for you! smile

I've always preferred dresses.

Living in Spain at a certain time every year we get overwhelmed by large people walking around shops, bellies hanging over their shorts, tattoos up both arms and over their shoulders, and down both legs ,what skin not tattooed, a bright pink, carrying a cigarette and a can of lager. This is just the women!!!The men are all in the nearest bar discussing football and swearing at the top of their voices!!!wink

NfkDumpling Sun 11-Aug-13 17:55:29

Oh Tammy please tell me they're not all British!

I was in a local supermarket in the hot weather one Friday morning. Walking up to the checkout next to me was a large man in just shorts and sandals. He was of course tattooed, and tanned.

He had an enormous beer belly and no waist at all. On view at the back was two inches of builders cleavage. As he had no waist the only thing that seemed to be stopping his shorts from hitting the floor seemed to be his willy.
I didn't quite know whether to laugh, take a photo on my phone or what.

To be honest the supermarket should not allow anyone in without tops on. Yuk! Lots of eating places do not allow this.
