Looking for a skirt

Remnant Kings were another of my clients when I was at Mystery Shoppers Ltd

I have a very old book of knitting patterns which contains a pattern for knee warmers, Bags. (It has some other crackers, including knitted vests for men!) I know it sounds a bit peculiar, but I imagine they would be very warm and cosy, without adding too much bulk. If you are interested pm me with your address, and I will photocopy the pattern and send it off to you. I know this sounds like a wind up, but honestly it isn't!

Thank you, vegas. I know it isn't a wind up because not only do I also have a knitting pattern for knee warmers (it belonged to my gran), but I have tried them. The problem is that they slip down. They'd be great if you were stting still all the time, I suppose. Or maybe they were supposed to be worn under your stockings....

You can get neoprene knee supports (a running friend has some) which I have considered but I suspect they would be rather tight.

A clothing combination that did work to keep my knees warm and less achy was cotton churidar (from Toast) underneath my home-made curtain trousers. Both these garments were nicely loose so didn't cause unwanted pressure but I wore the two pairs of curtain trousers out over four years and don't have any more suitable curtains to hand. The ones I used (also made by me) had already been used as curtains for about fifteen years so were lovely and soft with no stiffness.

Besides, I'm past my curtain trousers phase.

I'm going with Gudrun at the moment. Order has been made. If the outfit works, maybe I'll post a pic on my profile...

Bags, I wear knee supports for my walking and I am afraid you probably would find them too tight and painful.
Do you not like pleated skirts?

greatnan, had to wear a pleated skirt for seven years at school. Not keen partly for that reason, but really because they seem too formal for my taste. They can look fine on other people but are OTT on me. Jackets ditto. Must be my severe face

bags - I have some thermal leggings, very thin and toasty - M&S.
Great links above on skirts. When - I didn't realise you're skills extend to sewing, am impressed.

bags Damart thermals are good too, but probably more choice at M&S.

I bought thermal leggings in M&S last year. They do keep me warm but I think I should have bought a smaller size as I get the Norah Batty effect unless I'm wearing them under trousers.

Thermals are usually made of plastic (polyester or one of its relations). I hate synthetic fabrics. They don't breathe well (whatever the manufacturers say) so one gets sweaty, plus static builds up. Yuk.

I have some silk and wool leggings. They're good, but cotton is usually fine. It's the two layer thing that gives the extra warmth because you get warm air between the layers.

BTW, sorry if that previous post seems a bit abrupt! It wouldn't be if you heard me say it.

Iam64 I can sew but I'm not that good! I bought the material to hand over to the upholsterer who turned my armchair into a thing of beauty!

All he had were dralon and synthetic crimplene type materials. Yuk! I bought some lovely pale blue and beige tartan wool upholstery fabric, which had been selling for £75 a metre, and I got it under half price as it was a remnant roll.
