I haven’t worn tights for years and years and years jeans jeggins shorts or bare legs
Has anyone got a really good lemon zester?
Last letters make new words - Series 3
Writing the jeans/skirts thread has reminded me that I find tights very difficult to get on these days, don't know the exact time it happened, one year all was fine, the next I was writhing around on the bedroom carpet [and I don't do much of that these days either] trying to get the blooming things past my knees.I am fairly short [and round] and if you buy ex-large they expect you to be about 5/10",wonder if Queen Victoria had this problem?!
So, any of you found good quality tights that are not a struggle and actually fit? Am not a big fan of stockings, though I wore some at a wedding last year as it was hot.

I'm 5 ft 2 (just) size 14 (just) . I find M and S Autograph tights medium work for me. I sit on a chair to get them on. They do need a pull up now and again but as I love to wear frocks esp if going out it's not a bother.
*Always suspect when a thread from 2014 .....
...............that's 7 years ago is revived...don't you think!*
MayBeMaw, reported for reporting - perhaps you should try another forum! This isn't a women's only one. If I wear swimming trunks or a tie, will you report me?
I find Gudrun Sjoden tights comfortable and they wear well too. They are thicker and a solid colour, made from polyamide and I normally buy the black.
I struggle putting tights on one handed. I either have bare legs, hold ups or leggings. The leggings look like tights when worn with boots.
I have read that Snag tights are amazing. My friend who is on the larger size loves them and they come in fab colours. I live in trousers most of the time and wear woolly socks at home. Christmas is coming though I will have to go through my tights drawer and see what I can find.
Reported- you might want to try another forum.

LOL Phoenix but why did you own a suspender belt aged only 11?Was it one of the 'must haves' amongst the girls?Anyway, even when I was a teenager, I was only allowed a white one , so yours sounds prettier. You must have had some very long suspenders!
Oh heavens, reading this has just brought back a memory! I probably would have been in the last year of junior school. I had one of those purple checked gingham sort of Junior Miss suspender belts (there were matching bras too, but I didn't need one
)
I had some very long white socks and for some reason thought it would be an idea to attach them to my suspender belt. It was a good thing that my mother noticed before I set off, I couldn't stand up straight.
I'm with you, Lilygran. Socks are great, the prettier or sillier the better.
Socks! Socks! Socks! Haven't worn tights or skirts since I retired.
Yes, yes - I know; I have never had to put up with the trials and tribulations of stocking wearing... but there was a time when that was all there was for a lady to wear - and that was my youth. (Sigh)
Paper knickers?
I learn something new all the time from you guys! I had the hardest time with stockings and belts when I was young just starting to wear them. Stockings were always too long and never seemed to stay up till they finally made stretchy ones. extra stocking around your ankles...not a good look!
In 1970 I worked with a girl who wore really microscopic skirts. She wore paper knickers (remember them?) under her tights and ordinary knickers over them. Chastity belt or what? She was renowned for never getting speeding tickets, but was very good at hitching her skirt way up if she was pulled over
Are we sure feetlebaum has never tried tights or stockings roses ???
Roses
Not me , not me ,not me , Miss !!
I like them a heck of a lot !
Cool round the nether regions
Seems we all have problems with hold ups, and not many of us like tights either [or stockings!] However, sometimes, social do's, weddings etc we just have to bite the bullet and do one or the other.I suspect partly it's a weight thing, as I don't remember having a problem with it when I was slim.I had to go to a wedding a few months ago and bought myself a suspender belt, and then some lovely stockings from BHS [think they are the best maybe so will try some tights from there]. Anyway, the stockings were rather nice, and slightly glossy and stayed in place [with aid of suspender belt.] I remember going to a wedding a few years ago, getting dressed for it in a hotel, opened new pack of tights, and couldn't get the b****y things past my knees!I wonder if Evans do roomy tights for short ladies? I would like some warm opaque black tights if possible. Do you remember the stockings we had to wear at school they were called lisle weren't they ?I don't think you can truly contribute to this thread feetlebaum as you have never suffered in this way to look good!!!!
I remember being so desperate to keep my tights up at school that I would wear a pair of pants under and another on top. Tights were so expensive that I received my first pair as a birthday present when I was eleven, and my mother was seriously wondering how she could steal them frm me, I knew that covetous look... Luckily for me I was a lot shorter than her at the time. I didn't get around to wearing them for another two years, but their main purpose as far as I was concerned was for wearing to school under my long uniform socks, to keep my legs warm without incurring the wrath of my teachers, as we weren't allowed to wear stockings or tights until we were fourteen. I dabbled with holdups, but had several embarrassing experiences of the variety mentioned by others, and as for tights - suspender belts and buttons are just torture. I wore them maybe half a dozen times but realised that the only people who would benefit from them would be men. I can remember being asked on occasion by boyfriends if I was wearing stockings! I just lied and never gave them a chance to find out the truth. I'm not daft.
Tights and stockings make me itch,
The very idea makes me twitch,
So it's jeans or trousers every day,
The most comfy thing for work or play.
I realise it's stockings that men adore,
But I'm too old to care about that any more,
And tights to me are simply torture,
Even though they kind of support ya.
As I said in another discussion, I have found that leggings can be worn instead of tights most of the time. They are much easier to put on and slightly kinder to the legs as they are not so clingy. They also don't ladder!
These days I can`t wear either, can`t manoeuvre my body into the right position to get the damn things on! Must admit to not feeling quite right on special occasions though.
I think loosing a bit of weight may help!
I wore my winter frock for a 'do' last week for the first time in ages - and found I couldn't get tights on! Had to resort to knee highs - luckily the frock is quite long. Glad to be back to normal now and thick socks.
