tights or stockings?

Writing the jeans/skirts thread has reminded me that I find tights very difficult to get on these days, don't know the exact time it happened, one year all was fine, the next I was writhing around on the bedroom carpet [and I don't do much of that these days either] trying to get the blooming things past my knees.I am fairly short [and round] and if you buy ex-large they expect you to be about 5/10",wonder if Queen Victoria had this problem?!
So, any of you found good quality tights that are not a struggle and actually fit? Am not a big fan of stockings, though I wore some at a wedding last year as it was hot.

Tights are so unhealthy, always made me sweat. Nowadays I go barelegged or if it is cold I wear trousers with socks.

I have recently ordered my first lot of black, Snag tights.
They are on their way, so am hoping they are lovely, comfy, and easy to get on.
If so, I will splash put on some coloured ones.

I discovered SNAG tights online last year. They are amazing. Fab fit and strong so they last ages. I hadn't worn tights for over 2 years and suddenly had to attend a funeral where smart was definitely expected. I am under 5" tall and well upholstered byt found perfect size and completely comfortable. Highly recommend - also a UK business.

CBBL i ordered snag tights the other day, prior to seeing your post, I have my fingers crossed, they do seem promising and I love the different colours. 2 pairs of 120 denier and 1 pair of wool. The models in their pictures are not elongated beanstalks so I am being very hopeful, being short and size 16. I actually have 2 wonderful pairs of very warm lovely tights but drat, no idea where I got them

Warm tights, long skirt and petticoat, nice home made quality jumper and possibly a camisole. Warm as toast. I do have several pairs of leggings but they aren`t as comfortable as well fitting tights

MayBeMaw, apologies - I didn't realise it was spam, just thought you were objecting to a man wearing tights!

I hate stockings and was delighted when the first nylon tights appeared; cost 19/11d (is that how we used to write it?).

I snip the waistband of tight. Hold-ups Nora Baty here I come.

Like many others on this thread, I wear leggings or trousers most of the time. Tights come out for the dress-up ocaasions, which haven't been very many recently.
Haven't tried Snag tights, but will try some next time I buy some. Colours sound interesting.

I found "Snag" tights are Brilliant! I', only 5'2" but these tights, which come in lots of different colours and deniers are excellent. They stay up, are a generous fit (I take a size 16) and I have no problems with them at all!
They are made in the UK. The coloured ones start from £6.50, so not cheap - but excellent value. They wash well, and don't fade. I heartily recommend them!

Sorry. Didn't realise this was from 2014

Don't whether this has been mentioned already.

I have seen quite a few adverts online for Snag tights. It says, Snag. Clothes that fit. We make clothes and tights that are genuinely different sizes, to fit comfortably women of all shapes'.

I have never tried them so can't recommend personally. They have lots of bright colours as well.

Leggings for me, too, but mostly jeggings. No socks usually as my feet get hot and you don't need socks inside furry boots anyway. I don't think I've worn stockings since the late 50s when tights were invented. Suspender belts? Yoiks, not for me.

Gongoozler Fri 17-Dec-21 14:44:43

All of the 5ft pluses seem tall to me! I have shrunk with age, not having been tall to start with!
I find supermarket multi packs of cheap tights fit me very well.

Snowdrop21 Fri 17-Dec-21 14:11:23

Another vote for Snag tights - they cover my rather generous thighs with ease..... and avoid the contortions that less stretchy offers require smile

I have been buying snag tights for the last year. Check them out online at snagtights.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiAh_GNBhAHEiwAjOh3ZISuHnBUb58sEJHfO927DzS-9txDNTGz8bWBk6B1ggCtyLyVo0LlPRoCehIQAvD_BwE

M&S holdups for me, can't bend my knees enough to put on tights. Unfortunately I have an occasional reaction (welts and blisters) to the silicone bands too sad. It's very difficult.

Jellygran Fri 17-Dec-21 12:20:43

Snag website. Snag tights are amazing. Colorful, comfortable and a good fit

poshpaws Fri 17-Dec-21 12:10:12

I vote for Snag tights. They do sizes from 4 to 38, and they also give you different height choices in each size. They do different deniers, sheer to opaque, and they come in either "sensible" or funky colours and patterns. I'm a 22 and they are the only tights that fit me without either being as constricting as a boa - the snake, not the feathers! - or having to be constantly yanked up. I wouldn't wear any others now.

I needed black tights recently. Wanted thicker ones rather than sheer. Got lovely comfortable ones at Tescos. Soft touch. I am a size 10/12 and I bought medium. Fab.

Reported as spam actually.

I haven’t worn tights since I went to my aunt’s funeral four or five years ago and wore them with a skirt. Since I retired I tend to wear tunics and cotton leggings in the summer, or shorts. In the winter I wear similar but with socks. I still have a big box of work tights in my wardrobe which I would dip into for things like funerals.
