First I apologise if this has been discussed before I did have a quick look through and didn't see it but haven't read every post

I m not a vain person and have never considered or wanted anything in the way of cosmetic enhancement but as I get older I've noticed two things that I don't like and wondered if anyone has come up with any creams or over the counter products to help. First skin tags those annoying little things that pop up like tiny aliens hanging around. I only have a few but would love to say au revoir to them, secondly the dreaded age spots I've noticed a couple of little discoloured areas on my cheek I did buy a quite expensive (for me) cover up pen £8 but it wears off in 2 minutes

Your GP might remove the skin tags. No harm in asking. I once had one of those side of the nose bumps removed by GP.

Was told by my GP that if DH [or anyone] was to tie cotton very tightly round the tag it would drop off by itself after a while. Tried it, and it's true! You can cut off the cotton close to the tag and then put a plaster on it [if you want to]. Do try that. There used to be a small tub of bleaching cream for age spots that was sold in Boots.

I would consult your GP about the skin tags .
Estee Lauder ^ double wear concealer^ is extremely good and doesn't wear off in a hurry , pricy yes , but well worth you only need the tiniest amount .
Slap plenty of sunscreen on all year , back of hands as well !
Let know how you get on !

BlueBelle it would be worth a visit to a department store and ask at various cosmetic counters to let you sample their concealers for your cheek. A good one I know of is Laura Mercier which has two shades you can blend to suit your skin tone. It's a bit pricey but does work and lasts a very long time.

Another product is called Dermablend which you will find in pharmacies. This is used to cover birthmarks.

thanks everyone have to do a bit of experimenting now x

You can definately remove skin tags yourself if you are brave enough. I attacked the DH's with a sterlised razor blade and numbed the area with ice. Now he wants me to do the rest - I'll have to try cotton, sounds much safer.

The age spots are trickier - they are basically sun damage marks. You can remove them or substantially reduce them but it is very expensive and you need a seriously skilled beautician. You will just get new ones though unless you are very disciplined about sun protection.

Try a face cream with chemicals in: AHA's, Vitamin C, glycolic acid will all help (not all at the same time though)

I think Bobby Brown make-up and skin care products are pretty fab. Their beauty consultants are also very well trained. You can buy a touch up stick which you put on after foundation or alone.

Foundation protects your skin when you are a certain age - if it disappears into your skin it is a sign that you haven't put enough moisturiser on. Try putting moisturiser on your face twice a few minutes apart, or use two products - a serum and cream or cream and oil to try and get enough onto your skin. Personally, I can't see the point of foundation primer I agree with Bobby Brown - that if you have the correct moisturiser and moisturising foundation you don't need primer as well.

Book yourself a make-up lesson, there is often a charge which is redeemable against purchases.

You tie stuff around a lamb's and piglets tail and it will drop off so same theory I guess!!!

I was about to suggest AHAs, glycolic acid, retinA creams, or salicyclic acid. You have to remember to use high factor sun creams if you use them though otherwise you will cause more problems, in fact I only use any of them in the winter months.

Wow mygrannycanfly I wish I had had you around when I was trying to sort out my skin a few years ago.

A long human hair works better than cotton.

Interestingly, the predictive text on my iPad, came up with 'husband' rather than hair?

Skin tags Galen or hair, eeek! I have some of the horrible little things. It is hard to tie hair or anything around a skin tag if it is under ones arm. One handed doesn't seem to work very well and I would hate ask DH to do the deed, I have several and hate them.

When I had just one and it was in the way of necklaces etc. my GP lanced it off with a razor blade.

As for the age spots, I had one appearing on my face. My sister had read that sun block applied daily would reduce it - I tried it and it disappeared after a couple of weeks. No sign of it now.

Hair! I don't have any skin tags

One handed surgeons knot with a pair of SpencerWells forceps! Simples!

Nelliemoser Thu 13-Feb-14 23:34:29

My hair is much too short for that treatment. If the skin tags are fairly small you can keep twisting them to kill of the blood supply and they drop off after a few days.
Best not to attempt this while cooking dinner though!

Oh of course Galen I have some in my handbag. Now where did I put it?

Yuk Nellie bet they crunch a bit too.
