Crocs

I know someone on here has waxed lyrical about Crocs in the past [sorry but can't recall who it was] but I bought my first pair a few weeks ago and have now bought another pair to take on holiday. I can't begin to say how comfortable and practical they are. I did buy the first pair just to wear in the garden but I became a bit precious about them, hence the second pair [in a colour that goes with a lot of my clothes ie black!]

I walked up to a friend this morning, she was giving me a lift to a coffee morning with friends. She was weeding her front garden. She rushed in to fetch her car keys, we drove off and she suddenly turned round, saying 'Shoes! I forgot, I am wearing my gardening crocs!' I looked down and she was wearing a pale pink pair. I immediately thought of this thread.

So she went in and changed into her smarter shoes, and blow me down, they were a newer (therefore smarter?) pair of pale green crocs... grin

I bought some crocs sandals in Mauritius in 2008 and have worn them throughout the summers since. I don't know if I can get the same style here. They are like flip flops but with 2 straps across. I will miss them when they finally wear out.

feetle; I read that quickly and had visions of you trying the nurses Croc on..a Cinderella moment methinks....smile

I wouldn't be without my crocs, they are great for gardening, washable, keep your feet cool in summer and warm in winter, even with bare feet.

Before my lovely dad died at 93, he wore them all the time and now my dgd age 2, wears them at nursery and in the garden.
In fact, all my family wear them at some time or other!

I wear socks (thick hiking ones) with Crocs if it's cold, which it usually is where I live. I don't wear them for gardening because I need something with a better grip on wet grass, like hiking boots, Muck boots or, on the few warm days, VibramFiveFingers.

Vanity? tcha!

I only discovered Crocs when in hospital, seven years ago - the nursing staff were all wearing them. I asked a nurse about them, and she took one off and handed it to me - I couldn't believe how light it was! I've been wearing them ever since...

Some of the styles - Patricia's are flip flops with no toe posts. Wonderfully comfortable. I have two pairs of slightly different styles. The second pair bought in a watersports shop. Wonderful for all the reasons already given. As regards driving, my only caution is that when they get old, the robbed sole becomes smoothe and slippy. X

I love the look of flip flops, there are some really pretty ones about, but I can`t wear them, they hurt between the toes. I also can`t walk in backless sandals and shoes, I slide out of them!

I bought my first pair of flip flops whilst staying in Dubai with family, who wore them. So comfy right from the start and I only bought a new pair ( Amazon) this year after 6 yrs. I wear them a lot.

Your feet don't get sweaty, they are too holey and well-ventilated. That's why I wear them for gardening in the summer, plus they can be washed.

They are ugly, they make your feet look big and wide and your legs look short, that's why I wouldn't be seen dead in them in public, no other reason! However, vanity aside, they are lovely and light and comfortable.

I can drive in wellies and hiking boots, it's backless shoes that cause problems, I have had a pair of shoes slip off and get stuck under a pedal. It was a very hairy moment. I can also drive in bare feet, that was how I learnt.

I wear flip flop crocs as indoor shoes, they are very comfortable but were not cheap. Imitation crocs are made of cheap plastic, I tried them once but they rubbed the skin off my feet.

I find them very comfy for walking.

I have some croc type clogs that I wear for gardening, and have wondered about buying some[not for the garden] but don't your bare feet get sweaty in crocs and they can't be great for going for a walk surely?I can see they can be great for ambling about the rock pools on a beach though.

merlotgran Sun 13-Jul-14 20:39:17

I drive in crocs with the backs up then they're just as safe as any other shoe.

I also drive in wellies but not snow boots as they're too wide and it's easy to catch the accelerator with the side of your foot when you're braking.

rosequartz Sun 13-Jul-14 20:32:13

I don't think I would feel comfortable or safe driving in them (or bare feet, or wellies)

Ana Sun 13-Jul-14 19:32:49

My feet get sweaty in any sort of plastic shoes!

I would feel very unsafe driving in crocs, flip flops, wellies or bare feet (plus, it would be painful as I'm not used to it). Well done all those hardy types (with hardy feet) who can do so with ease!

thatbags Sun 13-Jul-14 19:29:35

Crocs have backs. Well, the original ones did.

thatbags Sun 13-Jul-14 19:29:11

Saba Douglas-Hamilton used to (probably still does) drive four-by-fours in bare feet.

Mishap Sun 13-Jul-14 19:28:22

Not snobbery about crocs - I worked for a trauma service and have seen a nasty accident caused by shoes without backs - sometimes they catch as you release a pedal and get caught, so you can't press the pedal down without bending over to release the shoe - this happened with the brake pedal and the driver was unable to press the brake.

I think crocs are great. They are particularly good for children as they can get them muddy and wet and it does not matter.

thatbags Sun 13-Jul-14 19:28:15

It's snobbery because people sneer.

feetlebaum Sun 13-Jul-14 19:27:07

I've been driving in Crocs for about seven years now... no problem! I certainly tried them out very cautiously first... I had a friend, a ady, who used to drive a 15-ton truck bare-footed in South Africa...

Ana Sun 13-Jul-14 19:27:06

I don't think it's snobbery - why should it be, when they're not particularly cheap (the originals, I mean)?

I couldn't drive in wellies or flipflops, it just wouldn't be safe.

thatbags Sun 13-Jul-14 19:21:22

Why is it dangerous to drive in Crocs?

I expect the same people will say it's dangerous to drive in wellies or hiking boots too.

Load of nonsense.

I hate the snobbery about Crocs. It's good to see that so many people ignore the snobbery.

I hate snobbery, full-stop.

Tegan Sun 13-Jul-14 19:14:38

I only drive in flat shoes; it scares me to see people drive in flip flops, clogs and suchlike shock.

annodomini Sun 13-Jul-14 18:58:15

I've had two pairs of original Crocs from Ebay. Cheaper than RRP though more expensive than imitations. I have been seen in public wearing them, but only because I forgot to change before I left the house. blush They are perfect for a caravan holiday and so light to pack.
