Himself has offered to buy me a new watch. I want something slim and modern. I fancy the Skagen watches but they are a bit pricey. The Olivia Burton ones are fun but not quite the colours I like.

So can any of you recommend a watch you are pleased with?

This is the one it's lovely and clear. Not that I'm always on time.

I've just ordered a skagen dress gold mesh bracelet on your lots say so that they're good.
I've wanted a dress gold coloured watch for ages.
It's only spash proof though. I'll only wear it for evening does on board.

(Have to make sure I don't go too near the rails!tbgrin

My DH gave me an elegant white gold little thing that I cannot read. So pretty but needs manual winding so spends a lot of time at the jewellers having a new spring. DH then got me a lovely ladies watch a Mont Blanc which has the beautifully clear numbers and a clear un fussy face. I love it. I take a Timex abroad again a big clear face. So sad my eyesight letting me down.

My shiny new watch Galen only goes down to 50 metres, but as I can hardly swim I hope I stay land bound. hmm

I was just going to say that Lona grin

Maybe that's where she gets her pearls from?

glammanana Sat 09-Aug-14 17:22:41

Tegan I think maybe who ever rescued dear Galen would have to choose between her pearls or her oyster hmm

Galen Sat 09-Aug-14 17:19:02

It's worth more than I am, so probablysmile

Tegan Sat 09-Aug-14 17:11:28

The downside being that, if someone leapt overboard to rescue you, they might just rescue the watch and leave you to your fate sad.....

I swear by my oyster. Not the most elegant, but very practical. If I fall off the boat while cruising, it's guaranteed down to 300metresgrin

NanKate Sat 09-Aug-14 16:41:01

That's a good recommendation Ana

I have LOADS of watches. All cheap and cheerful, nothing over £20 but I have them in all different colours and styles. smile

Aka, DH did that when we came out here. You have no idea how irritating it can be. grin

The day I retired I threw my watch away and have refused to wear one since.

My last watch was a Lorus and I loved it - told the time accurately, looked good and very good value for money! What more can you ask for in a watch?

NanKate Fri 08-Aug-14 19:26:09

After trying on lots of watches and looking up hundreds online I have settled for a very nice Lorus silver watch with a nice clear date and a second hand. Cost £40 and I am more than satisfied, thanks for all the advice. flowers

There is one in Loughborough too Granjura. smile

Kittylester- there is a great little jeweller near the roundabout by the Haymarket (next to MacIndian) - Bijal Jeweller- he replaces all the batteries for my watches (and I am Swiss, from Swiss Valley- Chopard, Parmigiani, Piaget, Cartier and more made here)... for about a tenner, and does all the seals, etc.

I always buy Swatch watches. I prefer the 'Skin' style, which are very thin - I hate chunky watches that catch on things. At present I wear a 'Ligne de Vie' which is waterproof, including the strap.

Thanks for all your suggestions which I will follow up. flowers

..I've just dug my daughters Snoopy watch out of a drwer and wound it up [it's that old; no battery] and it's ticking. Going to see if it keeps good time. Looking for an old Swatch [one of the originals] that's in a drawer somewhere...

Tegan Tue 22-Jul-14 14:51:25

I've got a beautiful gold watch that was my fathers [I tend to like mens watches for some reason; probably going back to those huge watches we wore in the 60's] but am always scared to wear it in case I lose it. I'm a 'one handbag, one watch kindagal'. Makes life simple.

Ana Tue 22-Jul-14 14:47:15

Goodness, I didn't realise Skagen watches were that expensive, kitty! (Must have been looking in the bargain basement when I googled! grin)

kittylester Tue 22-Jul-14 14:22:30

Do you have to weave it yourself Tegan grin

The thing I like about £15-20 watches is that that cost so little you can have a few (say 6 for a Skagen) and they are a bit funky [holdingbacktheyearsunsuccessfully] grin
