Good for you mamie when we eat high fat things we put on weight. when I say low fat I don't mean low fat versions of things I mean naturally low fat.

Fat clothes, inbetween clothes & slim clothes
(45 Posts)I'm usually a size 14-16, but in the winter it creeps up more to 16+ & in the summer if I was lucky it used to go down to a 14.
However a few months ago I finally admitted to myself that the likely hood of me getting back into my slimmer clothes was non existent so reluctantly threw out some old favourites.
And guess what? After some stressful weeks the extra pounds have disappeared & I need new clothes.
Not going to go mad as I'm sure with winter coming it will all creep back on but at least I bought some new jeans.
I did try on some warm leggings, as I've seen on here that lots of you seem to wear them, but don't think I look quite right in them.
Does anybody else have fat & thin clothes in their wardrobe?
I am ashamed to say I have clothes in four sizes in five wardrobes and I will not be binning the small sizes because I am sure we shrink as we get older. I blame DH for my inability to lose weight, he does the cooking and heaps more on my plate if he thinks I haven't taken enough.
It's a good job I don't have five wardrobes or I might be in the same position. harrigran. I don't see any signs of shrinkage when I look at that old woman in the mirror every morning!
Thank goodness, I can now come out of the closet as a closet closet-owner.
I have three double wardrobes and single wardrobe. I also have tops of said wardrobes piled with wicker hampers full of the trousers in the sizes in which I am not currently.
It's rather nice, I get to see old favourites that I had forgotten that I had. I keep one wardrobe purely for what fits me really well right now. The single one is for coats and hiding presents in.
Doesn't shrinkage only work downwardly, not inwardly?
I've been between a 12-16 for a couple of years now,I was always a comfortable size 12 when we lived abroad so I can only blame it on my diet since we moved back far too many carbs and not enough salads & fish,I intend to loose some more weight and get back to size 12 again thats when I feel better around.
I partly blame the price of protein. When the kids were younger and I had to make the money stretch, I filled up on carbs so that they could have the protein. I didn't realise what I was doing to myself.
I'm a 14-16 now and have beeb fir ages but my weight tends to fluctuate which doesn't appear to affect my clothes too much thankfully though it affects my appearance in them you could say
. I find wrap dresses a boon and anything made of stretchy jersey. They seem to cater for bloating which I seem to have since I'm been eating nuts - walnuts and almonds - because I felt I was short of magnesium [?]. I enjoy wearing my clothes - until I see my back view and my bum
but doubt whether I'll ever be a slim 12 again
Just a bit of a warning re White Coat Syndrome. DH was assured by his GP that he was suffering from that when his BP was measured at the surgery and it was over 200. Later that week he had his first stroke. The stroke consultant was not impressed by the GP's diagnosis. Now he has a BP machine to measure his BP at home weekly. Stroke nurse advised him to take it three times and pick the one he liked best as it can fluctuate within a couple of minutes. The British Heart Foundation has a list of recommended home BP machines which is useful.
Sorry it's the British Hypertension Society not BHF. I realise this is very off thread, but know that DH's life changing stroke could have been prevented if he had been whizzed into hospital as the stroke consultant said he should have been, rather than a glib WCS diagnosis made

I know I must be very lucky as I only went up to a size 12 in the menopause, and it's never changed. I eat butter, full fat milk, cakes, etc.
My blood pressure is always perfect and the only thing I have wrong with me is Dyverticulitus and a dodgy back which is my own fault through abuse with gardening and DIY.
At the moment I am a size 13 in most places, but the sizes vary so much, even within the same shop. I have lost weight after having to give up alcohol due to a heart condition (not that I was a huge drinker, but I did enjoy a sherry when I was cooking the dinner) and find that most of my size 14 trousers are far too big for me, even with a belt and a size 12 is a bit tight and sometimes won't even do up! I think I will have to start making my own clothes to get a good fit!
Purpledaffodil that is very good advice about a home BP meter. I ought to dig ours out - my BP was up when I had a health check this year, was supposed to go back to have it done again and didn't
.
Size 14-16 clothes in the wardrobe here too. I have given the 12s to charity from when I lost 3 stones on a low carb diet for a couple of years. Time to climb back on, I think, thanks for the nudge Mamie
There is a very active low carb diet section on Mumsnet, Icyalittle. I find it quite helpful though we are not as strict as some of the people on there.
DH takes his blood pressure daily. I have my taken from time to time and its always OK. Even when I was shaking like a leaf due to have a minor op it still stayed within range! I think I'm a zombie!!!
DH has just bought me a nutribullet so that I get a decent amount of fruit and veg daily rather than a load of carbs. Watch this space I might even lose some weight - eventually and have to change my wardrobe
Let me know how you get on with the nutribullet; I'm terrible at eating vegetables and have been thinking about getting one for ages.
I've just bagged up for the charity shop four good pairs of size 14 jeans. One pair was always too big round the waist so should have thrown it out before, but I do hate to throw out good clothes.
Same as Phoebes. Am essentially a size 13. So have size 12 [mainly spring and summer stuff] and size 14. All size 10 stuff has gone as I refuse to believe that I will be that size again.
I agree that manufacturers make clothes differently, but label them the same size. It seem to go with the age they are aimed at. A young woman's size 12 body is a different size 12 from a post menopause woman's.
It is very dis heartening to try a shirt or jumper on in your usual size to find it is not long enough.
It annoys me when a dress seems to fit, but has a side zip that does up until you get to the last inch. Then, I suspect because ribs have widened with childbirth or boobs are slightly lower, the rest of the zip won't fasten!
Still, I do seem to find things to buy! x
I do have clothes in different sizes but have thrown out all the larger size trousers and some tops - trying to keep to a size or two smaller and the trousers act as a warning. However, I don't think I will be a size 12 again, it's miserable hard work!
However, I did buy a pair of trousers and a jumper from M&S the other day (the same size as the ones I was wearing) - the trousers don't go anywhere near me and the jumper is enormous
