Do you still wear jeans?

I'm fairly new to gransnet so I hope I'm not rehashing an old thread but is there an age when you're past your sell-by date for wearing jeans? I'm a baby boomer and we were the first "jeans generation". I'm still fairly slim and feel comfortable wearing them but don't want to look like mutton dressed up as lamb.

Why not Handynan27. I prefer Chinos but the main thing is what you feel comfortable in. I would hate to think, within reason, that my age would dictate what I wear. It is how you look and feel not your age that counts.

I only wear trousers in winter with a long top or long coat but yes, I have denim ones though not strictly jeans.

DH is 66 he still wears jeans.

I frequently wear jeans but during this cold weather I am wearing walking trousers with warm linings.

I have never worn jeans and don't intend to start now.

I don't think jeans are a youth thing any more. There are so many styles and fits for all. There was a thread about leggings and Jeggings which seemed to come to that conclusion with a few dissenters. My late uncle was widowed in his eighties and almost his first act was to go out and buy a pair of jeans. Apparently his wife had always forbidden him to wear them and he'd always craved some. Very good he looked too grin

The only reason I don't wear jeans much is because I find them heavy and uncomfortable. I do have a pair of "boyfriend cut" jeans (or so the label says) that I wear sometimes. They're kind of slouchy/baggy.

purple good for your uncle! smile

I wear jeans most days that I'm not at work.

I wouldn't go for the skinny ones or the flares - a slightly bootcut style suits me fine, and I can either wear ankle boots or tuck them into longer boots.

Grannyknot, I know what you mean but I only buy jeans in thinner denim, with a bit of stretch!

I haven't worn jeans for a long while, tend to wear Craghoppers most of the time. However jeans do wonders for a ladies bum, very sexy, IMO.

I have to make an effort to think of things other than jeans to wear. They've always seemed the easiest thing, to me, but maybe I'm just a bit unimaginative.
(I like the sound of the "boyfriend" ones.)

Yes for walking the dog, knocking around in the garden and that sort of thing. They are hard wearing and take a lot of washing. Not bothered about my age etc - not bothered about my image!!! as I haven't got one.

baubles Thu 11-Dec-14 19:30:45

Most definitely, if you like them and are comfortable in them why on earth not?

Eloethan Thu 11-Dec-14 19:30:53

Yes, most of the time.

tanith Thu 11-Dec-14 19:31:02

Often wear Jeans and jeggings.. they are just so easy to wear and comfy with a bit of stretch in them, tuck into boots and away I go.. not bothered whether I'm too old or not..

loopylou Thu 11-Dec-14 19:32:09

Recently 'discovered' jeggings, and am hooked! Worn with a long top, boots etc they are so comfortable but look smart too......guess better late than never!

Mishap Thu 11-Dec-14 19:33:56

Every day.

I didn't wear jeans in my youth, but since discovering Not Your Daughter's Tummy Tuck Jeans, I wear the straight leg style most days, in black or indigo. They are expensive at full price, but I buy mine on Ebay.

merlotgran Thu 11-Dec-14 19:34:55

I live in jeans or stretchy cords, preferably bootcuts because I think they make your legs look longer and slimmer and I need all the help I can get. I also wear any style that will fit inside wellies.

I think it's what you wear with them that's important. Stretch jeans have a horrible habit of sliding down at the back when you sit down so a long top or T shirt is essential or you might reveal a builder's bum tchshock

Long woolly jumpers also look good with jeans and so does a Parka.

Mishap Thu 11-Dec-14 19:38:40

The jeans I wear are maternity ones - they are so comfortable. I am not overweight, but hate things tight round my middle.

Ana Thu 11-Dec-14 19:43:18

I always buy high-waisted ones. I hate hipsters which give you a muffin top even if you're slim-ish!

Lona Thu 11-Dec-14 19:57:56

I slob around in jeans at home, and wear black skinny ones tucked in knee boots when I go out.
I do find that my legs get cold when I'm walking(as opposed to driving) to the shops, and then my knees ache!

Lona Thu 11-Dec-14 19:59:29

My muffin top needs Simon Cowell type pants hmm

Tegan Thu 11-Dec-14 20:01:06

I used to live in jeans but now wear leggings and tunics most of the time; mainly because it means I don't have to change when I go to the gym and they're so warm at this time of year. Will switch back to jeans when it gets warmer though.
