I can't afford expensive facial treatments eg botox, fillers so lack confidence in my appearance.....so it was just brilliant today to see a photo in the paper of a natural looking 68 year old Felicity Kendall who has stopped apparently all of her treatments which disguise and hide the signs of ageing !
They say there is a lot of pressure on young girls nowadays aiming to look like those in the magazines but I think there is as much pressure,if not more, on older women. Thank you Felicity

Tegan Tue 02-Jun-15 17:07:24

What did she have done before she stopped though?

janeainsworth Tue 02-Jun-15 17:12:14

I think the pressure on young women to have fillers etc is even worse than targeting older women.
It represents the very worst in creating a market and then exploiting it.
It starts very young too, with pre-school girls being made to feel they are not 'pretty' enough. How can you start to tell a four year old that prettiness is on the surface and true beauty comes from within?

KatyK Tue 02-Jun-15 17:29:19

Without wishing to sound catty, I think Felicity's face looks extremely stretched. She was beginning to resemble a fish. She looks better than I do, obviously, so I really shouldn't comment, but she had such a lovely little face.

loopylou Tue 02-Jun-15 17:35:56

I agree KatyK, I was shocked at her appearance on something last year, she could barely open her mouth (might have been on the 'One Show'?)

It's sad when the pressures on celebrities means they resort to fillers and plastic surgery.

lynne Tue 02-Jun-15 17:39:29

She's stopped having fillers and botox during the past year so her face is now natural for her age....lined and wrinkly! like mine which is why I got a boost from seeing this

Anne58 Tue 02-Jun-15 17:40:45

I'm going to give hemorrhoid cream a try............

loopylou Tue 02-Jun-15 17:42:42

My face looks fine.....until I put my glasses on!

Ana Tue 02-Jun-15 17:43:26

Don't, phoenix. It doesn't work and you'll be smelling the stuff all day...

Anne58 Tue 02-Jun-15 17:44:22

I thought that Joan Collins and Tara Palmer Doo Dah swore by it?

janeainsworth Tue 02-Jun-15 17:51:08

p Google Eva Fraser facial workout instead.
The theory is that facial sagginess is due to loss of muscle tone.
By exercising the facial muscles you can improve tone & contour.

Anne58 Tue 02-Jun-15 17:55:52

Ooooh, will have a look. I'm spending far too much time lately standing in front of the mirror with friends while we each work out exactly how much needs moving to get a good but subtle result!

janeainsworth Tue 02-Jun-15 18:01:44

I like to think it's working for me wink
To a certain extent grin

KatyK Tue 02-Jun-15 18:36:00

Yes, I saw her on the One Show I think Loopy. As if things weren't bad enough for me, I have started to get spots on my face. SPOTS! What next? Give me a break.....

Maggiemaybe Tue 02-Jun-15 19:00:55

Thanks, janea....I think. Googled it, bought the used paperback from Amazon (I reckon any improvement to my jowls will be well worth the £2.81 investment), and ended up ordering a soup maker while I was there. As you do. grin

I'm with looplylou on this one - stay away from mirrors when wearing my reading glasses (and varifocals too!) and as for magnifying mirrors! eek shock

Day6 Wed 03-Jun-15 11:41:28

Oooooh. For once I don't feel jealous of Felicity Kendall. smile]

She really was cute and gorgeous in her youth. I think it's very sad that she's had so much botox and fillers over the years to preserve her looks so now, her facial skin without it, looks dreadful. Really. She now has the sagging, deep furrows, lines and wrinkles of a 90 year old. The price of vanity?

I really loathe the way most women's magazines encourage youthful looks, no matter what. It's a gift to grow old but so many women seem to fear it. Losing one's looks really isn't a massive deal.

I am still feeling smug though that for once, I DO look better than Felicity Kendall. wink She should serve as a warning to all.

I think it's a rather nasty article - purportedly congratulating FK on abandoning cosmetic treatments but then making some very uncomplimentary comments about the way she looks now. The fact that it is rounded off with the statement that she prefers the way FK looks now, doesn't make up for the earlier comments in my view.

I'm in favour of articles criticising the way women - especially women in the media - feel almost compelled to have treatments to try and halt the ageing process. But I prefer such articles to speak about the subject generally, rather than to pick on one particular person. FK may be a successful actress but I think these sorts of remarks could be very hurtful.

Ana Wed 03-Jun-15 12:20:22

I think lynne was referring to yesterday's Daily Express article, Eloethan, not today's DM.

TriciaF Wed 03-Jun-15 14:12:29

She's brave to come out with it like that, but what an example of how those treatments can leave damage.
I've always admired her style. I've got a book she wrote, WhiteCargo, about her early years, in India etc.

merlotgran Wed 03-Jun-15 14:40:31

Hemorrhoid cream is good for the frown lines between the eyes. The trick is to put it on before going out as the tightening effect doesn't last all that long. I've never known the smell to linger.

Just don't forget to wipe it off grin

Eloethan Wed 03-Jun-15 16:59:14

Oh, sorry, I didn't realise there was more than one article.

Coolgran65 Wed 03-Jun-15 19:34:48

Wow !! Never thought I'd be in the position to say I look better than
Felicity Kendal. But I do.
Quite brave of her.

loopylou Wed 03-Jun-15 19:45:36

It's puzzling me that having stopped Botox etc FK's appearance has changed so quickly- I'd have thought it would have been less dramatic...

J52 Wed 03-Jun-15 19:45:46

I'm all for growing old gracefully and would never dream of Botox or anything else.

Unfortunately, actors wear such a lot of theatrical make up and continually pull at the skin removing it, that their skin often suffers.

Smoking dries out the skin, particularly around the mouth. Age and lifestyle often are shown in the face. Interesting faces equal interesting lives! wink x
