Cool Summer clothes

Where can I buy loose fitting summer trousers? I saw someone my age in a very nice pair which I think were elasticated round the ankle and what I would describe as Circus Trousers (my description). I wish I had stopped and asked her.

Any ideas ?

Hope you manage to find a patch for your eye Anya.

My 4 and 2 yearly GSs had a joint pirate birthday party in February. It was great fun and fortunately on dry land, I like you don't like being on a boat bobbing around.

I wonder if anyone dresses up as a cowboy or Indian nowadays ? I had a Davy Crockett hat and very smart too. hmm

Poor you Anya, hardly a treat is it?grin more a duty.
NanKate, hmmmn that looks bad for East, at least in our area, have to find out about that.

Pleasantly surprised by the Pirate Boat experience. We had great fun shooting passing boats with water pistols (Captain Jack was clever enough to make sure they were just out of range), and we had maps of the river to find numbered clues and with the correct combination these unlocked a pirate treasure box back at base.

Apart from that it was lovely to see the wildlife and the beautiful houses who backed into the river.

A bonus was that all the children behaved well enough for 4-5 year olds and no one fell overboard grin

Wonder if Captain Jake would consider a 70th birthday Pirate Party??? hmm

Who?

NanKate Mon 06-Jul-15 12:20:26

I'm glad all went well for you Anya it sounds like fun.

It is my 70th next year and I have started a bucket list of things I want/intend to do, which will save DH asking 'what do you want to do for your big one'? I am thinking of being a bit more extravagant that normal. grin

Go for it NanKate!

rosesarered Mon 06-Jul-15 15:06:39

That sounded fun Anya, better than you thought, are you talking about Cut Throat Jake?grin what about Roger the cabin boy and Master Bates?grin

NanKate Mon 06-Jul-15 17:47:01

Roses I must have been so innocent at the time of Captain Pugwash I didn't get the double entendres. What a plonker. grin

Alea Mon 06-Jul-15 17:49:26

Oh rosesarered blushblushblush

Ceesnan Mon 06-Jul-15 17:52:57

I thought it was Tom the cabin boy? Roger was part of an urban myth, along with Seaman Staines.

Ana Mon 06-Jul-15 18:04:55

I don't think that even in those days they'd have been allowed to get away with stuff like that on a children's programme!

Alea Mon 06-Jul-15 18:07:19

I'm thinking "Round the Horn(e)" perhaps?

petallus Mon 06-Jul-15 18:12:29

I loved that program. Wasn't it called that because of Kenneth Horne?

petallus Mon 06-Jul-15 18:13:19

Was that the one with Julian and his friend Sandy in it?

Ana Mon 06-Jul-15 18:15:13

Yes. "Hello, I'm Julian and this is my friend, Sandy"...grin

Ana Mon 06-Jul-15 18:19:37

Kenneth Williams was Julian, if I remember rightly...

'Lovely to varda your dolly old eek' was one of their greetings. My gay cousin tells me that the gay community definitely have their own language.

I used to love Beyond our Ken and Round the Horne. I used to listen to it with my dad on the radio (he was partially sighted.)

They often greeted Kenneth Horne with - Oh Mr. Horne, what brings you trolling in here?" The amazing thing was that the scripts passed the censors who thought it was all rather quaint.

I got all the double entendres but I don't think dad did, could be wrong there but he always kept a straight face.

Talking of pirates - when my sons were at Primary School they both wanted to go to the Fancy Dress Competition at the school and both wanted to be pirates.

As we walked down the lane to the school we met at least 20 other children dressed as pirates, same striped tee shirts and black patches over one eye.

Needless to say a pirate didn't win the competition. smile The winners were a boy and girl wonderfully kitted out as The Lion and The Unicorn!!

Julian and Sandy talked polari didn't they? ( a sort of camp language)

petallus Mon 06-Jul-15 19:55:46

Did they say 'ooh bona'?

NanKate Mon 06-Jul-15 21:43:20

They certainly did Ducky.
