Buying clothes

Do you buy a range of clothes, whatever takes your fancy, or are you like me of late, I keep buying different versions of clothing I already have. More jeans, more 7/8th trousers, more shirts, more t shirts. My purchases are now very predictable. Once upon a time I had an eclectic range of clothes. not any more. What about you?

Every Spring I buy new summer tops, forgetting that I still haven't worn the ones I bought last year (and the year before!) because we didn't have any summer to speak of...confused

Sorry about that Ana, it's been hot! hot! hot! down here, cooled down Monday but hotting up again later this week. I'd better shut up because I'm sounding like Carol Kirkwood, (lady who does the weather on BBC)

I don't really bother with buying clothes any more - I have plenty and have no desire to be in fashion, so no reason to buy any.

I use my sister's hand me downs through choice.
Free, plus saves me going shopping!

And then buy a couple of items most seasons to keep me slightly up to date, and to plug holes in my wardrobe.

Boy, do I sound sad! But never mind!

Since stopping work, I only buy if something needs replacing or for a special occasion. It has taken a little while to reach this stage and I still have things unworn that I bought forgetting that I would not be meeting 'the public' everyday!

I have always looked for bargains in the sales!

As I have put on weight, I avoid buying much in the way of trousers etc (unless from charity shops) but do find that I'm drawn towards longer tops, especially ones that flare at the hip, but narrow a little at the waist. I still have a waist, but my hips and thighs are on the increase!

When wearing tops like these, I often get complimented on my "outfit".

This happened only last week, when I was wearing a black & white patterned top (Factory Shop) pull on black trousers (Factory Shop again!) with a pair of red suede peep toe sling backs (made in Italy, leather soles & lining, charity shop!) with a necklace of black and red beads (charity shop!) grin

J52, sales are my downfall - can't resist a bargain...blush

Anne58 Tue 14-Jul-15 18:57:19

I used to be a sale junkie too, Ana , but to try to avoid a real impulse purchase, I used to try to restrict myself to only buying things that would "go" with something that I already had. (Smug emoticon)

All went to pot over an expensive top that had been reduced by lots. I was certain that the colour of it would go with something that I already had, so bore it home in triumph!

It was only then that I realised that the colour that was in my mind was the damn lining of a suit blush

I'm trying new things (for me) 7/8 trousers and baggy harem pants - the latter are lovely and comfy but DH says they are pyjamas - great for loafing about in. I'm usually in the same shops or on line Boden, Joules, White Stuff, Monsoon, Sea salt - middle aged lady with no sense of style and limited budget that kind of thing.

Ana Tue 14-Jul-15 19:18:18

But those places are so expensive, Teetime! shock A T-shirt in Boden can cost £65 plus...

Luckygirl Tue 14-Jul-15 19:19:32

I seem to be saving a lot of money!

Anne58 Tue 14-Jul-15 19:25:51

£65! For a T-shirt shock (faints)

At that price I would want it to give me an automatic breast increase, be totally self laundering to the point where it put itself back in the wardrobe!

Ana Tue 14-Jul-15 19:54:33

No - sorry, the have got some cheaper ones! I must have been looking at the higher-priced range when I googled earlier - sorry blush

Anne58 Tue 14-Jul-15 20:36:36

Can one un-faint?

Ana Tue 14-Jul-15 20:40:35

Smelling salts? grin

Marelli Tue 14-Jul-15 23:21:19

What are 7/8 trousers? confused

Coolgran65 Tue 14-Jul-15 23:26:51

7/8 length trousers come to about the ankle bone and are tapered. I love them with ballet flats. M & S do a range.

Marelli Tue 14-Jul-15 23:49:30

Ah - I know the ones, Coolgran65 !
I hadn't realised that's what they're called. I rather like them, too. Think I'll have a look at M&S.

Coolgran65 Wed 15-Jul-15 05:27:10

It says 7/8 on the M & S label.smile

Talking of M and S. I went in there yesterday to buy some new nicks for my holiday. There was practically a whole floor of bras but all I could find in the knicker line was 4 small stands with nicks at £6 each or 3 for 2. Didn't they used to be 4 for £10? Didn't they used to sell 5 in a pack? The ones on the stands were universally nasty synthetic fabric,I wanted cotton bikini style, nice colours. Could I find the packs or anything in cotton? Searched high and low but couldn't find any. Then gave up.

I only by Boden when there is a sale or discount I should have said as their items are overpriced but they have frequent sales.
