When are you too old to wear a leather jacket?
I had a black leather jacket when I was in my 40s to 50s and it lasted for years. Three quarter length, plain tailored.
I need a new jacket now , I'm tired of my current one, yellowy-cream cotton from M&S from 20 years ago, and think I could just about afford a leather one.
But I'm nearly 80 - would I look ridiculous?

To all you lovely ladies, I just want to point out a fact that I have learnt since buying m+s pink jacket in what I thought was leather !!
It's not leather , its sprayed on poly... stuff!! Quite nice to look at and feel! But a big But !!! I had put in polythene bag to store for another Special day ! A hand-bag and expensive Italian shoes, knowing wedd: and such would be featured soon!
But I have found these items are deteriating faster than leather would ..and found they were not leather !!! They are peeling like an orange skin!! So sad looking, even the soft lining to the shoes is falling out !!!
So beware these modern fabrics that look great, this pink one from marks and sparks, is the sprayed on a basic cotton or such, with poly make believe leather !!! Just as long as you know that it will tear , scratch, and peel in a short time!
But if it looks good and makes you feel great then all you need is to say is it worth the price tag !!!

I have always had 3/4 leather jackets and bought my last one 2 years ago her in Germany. I just could not get on with it. In the meantime I have become round shouldered and from the back it didn't look good.
I sold it on e-bay for Euros40.
I've got a thick grey Alpaca jacket now, and I feel very comfortable in it. I would love another leather jacket and if you find one that's comfortable and fits I'd go for it.
I did notice one difference. This last jacket had cheap looking lining in it although it was not cheap- Linings and buttons and other accessories are poor quality these days.

As this thread has been brought back to life, just thought I'd mention that in the end I bought a brown leather jacket from Redoute. But I didn't feel comfortable in it and gave it to eldest daughter.
She loves it.

I am over 80 and still wear my dark Olive Green suede leather jacket and it looks fantastic, it has lapels and is single breasted I also have a plain leather jacket from Marks and Spencer that is buttery soft and also has a collar with a zip front. I wear mine with slim leg trousers and boots.

WOW A lot of deleted replies on here, what on earth could have been posted that would upset someone talking about leather jackets.
