Prickly labels!

I'm sure this has been on the forums before but I think it's getting worse!
My bugbear of the last few months has been the way that some garments have their razor sharp labels sewn on with barbed wire!
I have to remove them with tiny nail scissors, being very careful not to undo important stitches or make a hole.
Manufacturers please take note: we haven't all got thick skin.

I hate the bloody things. And it just doesn't make sense to buy a cashmere top or similar and have a label that shreds your skin. And when you cut them out, it's not really a good look, either! Not to mention my husband who ruins his shirts by cutting off the label without his specs on, and makes holes in the shirt!

hildajenniJ Sun 13-Sept-15 14:11:01

In a pair of trousers I bought recently, there was a label so stiff that it scratched my hip. I cut it out, but why do manufacturers make them out of such stiff materials. My DD has an awful time removing every label in my GG's clothing, as they all have sensory processing disorders, and can't stand anything that irritates their skin.

GS's ... they are not horses!

same here, when I buy something the first thing I do is to cut the ruddy things out, and they are so huge sometimes too.Grrrrrr.

Stansgran Sun 13-Sept-15 17:29:26

I leave a few threads visible as some sweaters I find it difficult to tell back from front with polo necks.

rosequartz Sun 13-Sept-15 17:35:39

Some of them bring me out in hives.

Charleygirl Sun 13-Sept-15 18:07:03

I have problems with my sight so I have an awful time trying to find the correct place to snip.

Nelliemoser Sun 13-Sept-15 18:10:10

I have had similar problems. I was going to pick up some friends on our way to get a coach. Only when I was in my car did I realised the new bra had several very prickly lables. I got her to stick some scissors in her bag and once we parked up to go to the coach she performed a lable removal operation in the carpark.
I also had my back badly scratched by the waist band of a pair of walking trousers which folded over and rucked up. That was so sore that next day I had to put a big dressing over the skin.

Alea Sun 13-Sept-15 18:21:43

Bane of my life too. They are usually made of tough nylon as you say, with razor sharp edges and sewn in with invisible barbed wire. Grrr. If we are meant to remove them, could they not at least be sewn in with a different colour of thread. I have been known to finish up with a hole in the back of the neck of a fragile garment, and I am very careful.
Labels in the side seams of camisoles too, dig into my sensitive bits! Sometimes I feel I am reliving the "Princess and the Pea!"

MiniMouse Sun 13-Sept-15 18:57:03

They're a nightmare! Is there an e-petition to ban them? grin

Marmight Sun 13-Sept-15 19:07:03

I can't stand those long loops which hold them on to the hanger. They always wiggle their way out. I have ruined a top by snipping them out in a hurry - without specs like MrGrannyknot blush

annodomini Sun 13-Sept-15 19:44:02

I've used an unpicking gadget to remove labels, ever since I made a little hole in a rather nice top - fortunately under the collar.

rosesarered Sun 13-Sept-15 20:10:46

Marmight, I always cut off those daft hanging ribbons too.

POGS Sun 13-Sept-15 20:16:12

Simple .

Buy a 'stitch unpicker' they cost about 50 p,

They are about 4" long with a very sharp hooked cutter on the end. No holes.

MamaCaz Sun 13-Sept-15 20:51:09

Same problem here. Even the labels that aren't very thick or stiff seem to prick me. I've developed a very sensitive patch on my neck, and I'm willing to bet it's all these horrible labels that have caused it.

Deedaa Sun 13-Sept-15 21:03:24

I've lost count of the number of M&S garments I've had to cut the labels out of! It used to be just the tops but lately I've found the waistband ones in trousers are as uncomfortable.

NanKate Sun 13-Sept-15 21:12:31

I shall purchase one of those stitch unpickers, this will save me strategically placing pieces of loo paper against my skin to stop the irritation. grin

I always find the back of my bra irritating and have loo paper stuffed up there too.

POGS Sun 13-Sept-15 21:46:49

Nankate

They are so cheap to buy you can't go wrong.

They are blooming sharp mind, make sure it's the stitching you cut and not your finger. smile

Falconbird Mon 14-Sept-15 10:25:55

I'm allergic to any fabric that isn't cotton so these labels are a real nuisance.
I'm also allergic to nickel so I can't wear much in the way of jewellery.

Lilygran Mon 14-Sept-15 11:52:24

And some lace trimming is apparently made of wire! Perhaps we should start a campaign about labels?

Falconbird Mon 14-Sept-15 13:24:34

Yes the lace trimming is a big no no for me because it brings up my eczema. Didn't know it irritated other folk. Finding anything in pure cotton these days is getting harder.

choicestchard Mon 14-Sept-15 14:08:00

Nice to hear I am not the only one and that NanKate stuffs paper under the back fastenings of her bra to stop the itch too. Its not easy is it twisting arms round the back and under the bra? A new yoga move perhaps.

cornergran Mon 14-Sept-15 14:46:09

With you all about the labels va magnifying glass and sharp scissors for me. The daft hanging loops get cut off and make good Barbie hair ribbons. Much more useful. grin

Elegran Mon 14-Sept-15 14:52:25

Turning the bra inside out gets the labels away from your skin. Stops the seams digging in, too. Why do they make them smooth on the outside but full of ridges inside? They must assume that we prefer the smooth line for our outer clothes and are happy for our flesh to suffer.
