I agree MrsDof. Nice underwear makes me feel good even though only me and DH know I'm wearing it.

Matching underwear
(74 Posts) Dee's post on the knickers thread www.gransnet.com/forums/style_and_beauty/1219361-Now-that-weve-discussed-the-comfy-bra-what-about-the-knickers made me think - does anyone match their bra and their knickers? I use to back in the day but now we've been married for decades it hasn't even crossed my mind!
I love wearing matching underwear. Generally only M&S but they do lovely sets that are not at all expensive. I have been married for nearly 47 years and my husband loves it too! And since being diagnosed with Breast Cancer 10 months ago (and luckily recovering well) I feel it is even more important to make that extra effort, it just makes me feel so good. Give it a go ladies it really does make you feel special.
Gone are the days when I wore lovely matching sets; bras, pants and underslips.(That dates me.) Nowadays my pants and bras are fifty shades of white.
I can match teetime and raise her five sets
I have a variety of matching lacy stuff with no wire bras for every day. Black, white, flesh, blue, crimson, maroon, black with little flowers, white with little bows, and pink. Then I have my wired sets for special occasions. Every day sets are all shoved in the drawer together. Wired sets are all carefully folded together.
I also have a silky green and brown basque which looks like an implement of torture but is actually incredibly comfortable to wear.
Thinking of the hospital thing reminds me of the story a friend told me. She had a accident while cycling from Land's End to JohnO'groats. When she woke in the ward she found she was still wearing her chamois leather padded inner shorts. The staff hadn't known what to make of them!
Wow Teetime. This could be a great subject to raise at Zumba with your rude golfing mate present - pointing out of course that your OH (if you have one) believes curvy woman look great in fab undies. Even if no one else sees them I am really impressed by your attitude - a woman who certainly holds herself in high esteem.
A lesson for me - M&S here I come.
I had a bad dose of pleurisy a couple of years back, & found it too painful to wear a bra at all. By the time I was well enough to wear one again, l found them to be extremely uncomfortable, so gave up wearing them. I wear one of those string strapped tops which I can pick up in ASDA for a couple of £s, and because my chest is just about non-existent, they are fine to just cover any reaction to cold weather. I match them to my tops & say to heck with matching knickers. I've been rushed into hospital so often (I'm Type 2 diabetic), I quickly came to realize that the medical staff really don't care about a colour scheme, or even whether they are spotless. They just want to get you well & home again. So please don't worry about your 'smalls' if you have an accident, as long as you're wearing a pair, there's no raised eyebrows!
Hope this sounds okay, I didn't want to ramble on too much....??
I wear what doesn't show through and match colour if possible. My worry on an emergency trip to a & e once....... I was lying on the trolley getting an IV and as the pain started to subside I remembered I was wearing my oldest slippers with holes in the soles. And I was feet up. DH was just removing them as the doctor returned
I used to have a miss-matched (greying white mainly) bunch of bras & knickers but then I discovered an M&S style (floral jacquard) bra that fits my 32DD well, has matching pretty but not skimpy knickers, reasonable price (tend to buy on 20% discount days if need) and comes in some lovely colours. It may be a small thing but wearing my nice sets makes me feel good (even though it's only me who ever notices!)
Pittcity - I do agree. My dream is to find a set of pretty, non-wired cotton bra and matching pants. When I was young they were all like that - I'd love to know who decided that bras had to be underwired and made of polyester.
29 just through a set in the bin as it had gone grey. Must shop!
I stuck with boring white cotton for years after my son was born and I couldn't loose baby weight. With a bigger bust I went for M an S, good support bras with no wires, mainly cotton, wide enough straps etc. then they started doing them in different colours! So now I have beautiful coloured bras and buy their multi packs that match up too. Lovely! Makes the day seen better somehow!
I try to match top and bottom, 'cos like Teetime, I am afraid of ending up in A&E with disreputable undies! As for my knicker drawer, it's a shambles, and the only thing I can say in its defence, is that it's nice and clean. I have problem with nude colour undies - they seem to discolour and look faded and yellow, whereas my whites are lovely and fresh. Anyone else have this problem?
well i'm now going to put the cat amongst the pigeons. i don't wear panties!!!
an operation high up in my groin means that it's tender to wear panties - even french knickers. so as i wear trousers all the time i go commando!!!!
however my bra drawer contains something like 20 bras [at the last count - well one drawer does - the other one has a few more!] and they're in many different colours.
i discovered asda underwired bras a couple of years ago - slightly padded ones. and i'm addicted - so much so that i daren't go anywhere near the bra section of my local store!!
but they're oh so comfortable and don't cost the earth so maybe i'll have a trip down there sometime soon.
i fold one cup into another and pile them one bra on top of another - in no particular order. i just have a look in the morning to see what i fancy wearing but i do try to keep them sort of matching whatever top i'm wearing that day.
Always wear matching underwear. After all I wouldn't wear odd socks.
I generally only have nude and black in both pants and bras, nude for light clothes, black for dark ones. I also have a VERY organised undies drawer since I learnt the trick of folding my pants - lay them flat, pull gusset up to waistband, fold sides to middle then sides to middle again - if you're skinny you may only need to do one fold, lol. Then they all slot in the drawer with the folded side up, nude in one row and black in the other. Bras get folding one cup inside the other, and then lined up, simple!
Oh Teetime seriously
here. Mine are neatly lined up because I've been Kondoing (it's addictive!) but mainly white, nude and black. I do have some 'posh' matching sets kept for best so never worn that I should wear (how pathetic is keeping them for best! )
I guess if you're flattened by a steam roller the likelihood of worrying about state of your underwear might be the least of your worries!
When I was carted off to hospital following an accident I was more worried about my car getting a ticket for overstaying in the car park than anything else (my undies DID match however!)
Totally agree Nfk!
Yes mine do match most of the time. They didn't use to. I was keeping the good stuff for special occasions. I use the three for price of two that Marks and Spencer do on knickers a lot. Don't believe in saving nice things for special occasions now. I used to until I read the story of the man laying out clothes for his wife to be buried in. He got silk, tissue wrapped underwear out of a box... She had been saving it for a special occasion...it was never worn. I even drink tea out of the really good china cups now. Enjoy the nice things you have by using them...smiles
Mainly black pants and try and wear best colour bra for the top I'm wearing, that's it really
Teetime
I'm with you, well I was until a few weeks ago, when I gave all my matching sets (about 20) to my dd as I can't stand the underwiring anymore.
She is newly single and hard up, so was delighted.
I'm now searching for comfort first, but I've found bras in emerald green and magenta although my pants don't match!
Nobody sees them so I don't care!
I aspire to matching underwear just as I aspire to the figure I had which would look good in it. I fail on both counts.
My mind boggles at all this. Knickers bought in packs of 5 from M&S,cotton, white and comfortable. Bras , two white ,one black, one skin coloured. No-one ever sees them so I have better things to spend my money on.
Folded and colour coded?! I just shove mine into the drawer
Maybe I should put more of an effort in...
My underwear collection's all in a big underbed storage box since it outgrew the wardrobe drawer. Not tidy at all, though I throw things into 3 vague sections in there - knickers, bras, hosiery. Easy to grab and go.
I like matchingish underwear. Usually the same colour but not always the same style or fabric. I have a nice cream and black silk set for nights out but it's getting worn less and less
I seem to have accumulated loads of knickers but they are all shoved into a drawer in a heap.
