Beige!

I went for my flu jab yesterday. In the waiting room were rows of similar aged patients, all in shades of beige! At the age of nearly 70, I would never consider wearing the colour. I stood out somewhat in black jeans with a brightly coloured checked shirt.
What shades do you feel suit your colouring, and do you wear the dreaded beige?smile

Any more and I fall over! I have always had a poor sense of balance, but compared with the other women in the waiting room, I was, quite literally, the scarlet woman.

or should I have said 'have a fall', I am over 70 so falls happen to me, I am no longer an active participant in the process.

With white/silver hair and a fairly pale complexion, I would probably disappear if I wore beige ... I do confess to wearing a lot of black but I am beginning to feel the need of some colour in my life hmm - watching this space ...

Black for me too, jogginggirl, although I have just rediscovered an olive green sweater that I bought years ago. I like grey, too, and blue [which is fashionable again now, albeit not navy].

Alea Sun 18-Oct-15 22:39:30

I always say you can't beat navy. It looks especially good accented with white greyhound hairs grin

rosequartz Sun 18-Oct-15 22:41:44

Lots of people dislike navy because they had to wear it for school uniform.
However, I have a friend who wears a lot of navy. She always looks incredibly smart.

My school uniform was mostly green. I never wear green.

sherish It goes with everything That was my mum's line as well. It doesn't suit me at all. Not any of the shades of beige. Pink, green, yellow or blue beige. When you see me wearing beige shoot me.

LullyDully Mon 19-Oct-15 01:33:38

I'm with you on green Rosequartz.

Everything was green, knickers, tiles and the name of the school. It does put you off.

Don't lump cream or white in with beige. A white shirt is a great partner to jeans or under a contrasting dark coloured sweater. A pale ivory silk top looks lovely with a black velvet skirt. Chunky jewellery and accessories all brighten up an outfit. It must be the word beige which is so dreary.

For our recent wedding anniversary DH bought me a 'Colour Me Beautiful' session but I am slightly scared to book it in case all the bright pink, purple and black in my wardrobe are deemed wrong.

grin

Cream and white don't do it for me either, think this is an aging skin issue.

Nelliemoser Mon 19-Oct-15 08:22:00

Kitty* I did one of those sessions with a small group of friends. It was very revealing. It's all about finding colours that look good with your skin tones.
I was very impressed as the group of four friends all had different colour groups. Once you see the effect of a particular colour against a persons skin you get it. It might need a shopping spree though.

I certainly wouldn't ban any colour from my wardrobe just because other people didn't like it. I avoid pastels and navy because they don't suit my colouring, but I've got cream jumpers and tops that look good with skinny jeans, and I have a pair of nude 4 inch heels that I love. I used to love a white shirt, but I think they're starting to show up the ageing skin tones now....

No beige in my wardrobe and I'm trying to buy only patterned or colourful tops to go with my mainly black pants. I always wear a fairly bright lipstick too as I feel my hair and skin are beige pale.
Trouble is, I don't like the autumn colours in the shops.

Nonnie Mon 19-Oct-15 09:51:22

Only 2" MOnica? grin Love my high heels and wear at any opportunity. Might be because so many of my friends are tall.

Don't do beige or cream. Camels coats are an exception to any clothing rule as they are classic. Hmm don't have one at the moment.

I love and suit strong colours. When my oldest friend and I go shopping she dare not buy beige, which she has a lot of, because I will disapprove and I don't buy black because she says I have too much. Good to clothes shop with someone who will give their honest opinion.

I did one of these colour matching sessions, kitty, it was no real surprise for me to discover I look best in vibrant colours. But definitely worth doing as it gave me confidence in my own judgement and also means when I see sale bargains in pale colours I can walk away and save my pennies for something more flattering.

petallus Mon 19-Oct-15 10:15:00

I have pale hair but I did buy a beige top recently.

However, it is from Fat Face and has a black outline of a bicyle with birds flying over it on the front, which I hope saves it from being dull.

rosequartz Mon 19-Oct-15 10:18:23

When I wore my dark fuschia pink winter coat I felt I stood out because everyone else wore black coats!

DS would say that beige is never out of fashion.
Because it has never been in fashion grin

rosequartz Mon 19-Oct-15 10:20:45

I wish I could wear heels, or even pretty shoes.
But not beige ones!

Maggiemaybe Mon 19-Oct-15 10:41:25

I have an emerald green winter coat, a purple one, a plain black and a Boden multi-coloured floral. But I've just taken DGS2 to the park in my beige anorak - .probably not the most stylish option, but very practical and it doesn't show the snot trails (his, not mine grin).

Tegan Mon 19-Oct-15 10:48:57

I'm the same rose; have got a wedding coming up next year and am having to 'practice' wearing heels for it, even though the Hotter shoes I've bought are very low ones.

Tegan Mon 19-Oct-15 11:02:52

Oh sob; have just dug out the shoes I bought in a sale last year [Hotters 'Donna' ones] which I haven't worn, only to find that I bought standard when I should have bought 'extra wide'. Going to invest in a shoe stretcher I think sad.

Nonnie Mon 19-Oct-15 11:18:53

Tegan shall I give you lessons in heels on Thursday? grin

Maggiemaybe Mon 19-Oct-15 11:25:37

Ah, I love the Donna shoes. They're very stylish.
