Help - how do you store your scarves?

Admittedly I do have a bit of a scarf obsession - around 20? But I've got to the stage now where they're all bunched up in the top of my wardrobe. Or hidden under my coats in the entrance hall. So, I need some ideas on the best way of storing them - to minimise bunching so I can actually see what I've got. What do you do? Please tell me I'm not alone! grin

all of the ones I am wearing at the moment are rolled and in top of wardrobe and added to constantly with new ones, next season they will be squashed in drawer as the next lot are brought out...and added to and so on,until the next season.......grin as you can guess I love scarves and have rather a lot ..

Mine are rolled up and in a lidded crate in the bottom of my wardrobe - apart from a couple of escapees that seem to lead a somewhat nomadic life . . .

hanging around the neck of the coat I wear them with
I'm not only lacking in scarves, I'm obviously lacking in coats too !

Mine are all jumbled up in a drawer and winter ones in another drawer!!! Think I need to think about rolling them, thanks for the idea!!

I've been ponderig on this for a while! Mine are a total mess. There are some I don't often use, tidy in plastic box under bed. Some in big carrier in cupboard (all jumbled up) some on back of kitchen chair - and usually a couple in the car - never know when it might be a bit chilly.

I don't have the room, but would love one place where they were all displayed hanging, so I could choose easily.

I really should have a severe prune of them, as some I don't wear ever. Often just kept a they were gifts, or just don't work for me.

I actually need to have a major sort out of ALL my clothes. I think I have so many sizes stored away that I might shrink and get into one day. Ain't never going to happen! sad

I asked DH to fasten some strips of plastic coated wire (the sort used with net curtains) inside my wardrobe doors and I loop my scarves over in a soft knot. I can see at a glance which scarf I want and they don't get creased like they did in a drawer. I bought a row of narrow hooks from Amazon and that is fixed inside another wardrobe door and holds all my necklaces. Saves them getting in a tangle. Of course, if you've got sliding doors, you're snookered!

My DDiL has many many scarves and handbags. I bought her an old-fashioned coat stand. She hangs bags on the lower branches and scarves anywhere they will fit. It looks very attractive. Trouble is I moved it once to vacuum and it toppled over. I had a narrow escape. Death by scarf suffocation! I'm quite short!

I have a blanket box that hold hats gloves and many many scarves in layers so I can find matching gloves and scarves

Why on earth would one vacuum for a DDIL ? mine sometimes does it for me

I have lovely old dressing table and use the bottom drawer for scarves. I put a few drops of lavender oil in an egg cup and its sits among the scarves. As I only have a few silk scarves, they take up the scent.

Anne2108 those are really good ideas for those short on space.

Embassies to admit I have 35 scarves for all seasons. I saved some drawers from a chest of draws , painted the fronts pale blue, put the pine knob back on and slid them under my white wooden bed frame. Very pretty place for mine.

I've just got all mine bunged over a hanger. I can see most of 'em. The only thing i look for in charity shops - silk scarves.

NanaRayna Thu 22-Oct-15 19:05:24

My silk scarves are stored in a very Blue Peter arrangement. I saved a bunch of toilet roll tubes and have stood them on end in a large shoebox. There are enough packed in there that they all stay upright. The silk scarves roll up in the tubes and I can immediately see which one matches my outfit.
My other scarves are folded in a drawer along with pashminas, sarongs, shawls and gloves. Since the silk-scarf-shoe-box fits in there too, I have an easy job of picking out my accessories....when this scruffy old dame bothers to look respectable! wink

In a drawer coiled round and heavier scarves folded flat and then clipped with trouser hanger .Are there any Moira C fans on gransnet ? I'm a big fan . The magnetic fastening make them easy to wear. I just drape them over the rung of a foam covered hanger and hang in the wardrobe. love my scarves. Also useful for covering up after op on my neck.

Mine are folded and stood upright in a drawer in the Maria Kondo fashion so I can see them all; now if I am given a new one, I try and take another one out and take to charity shop!

FionaElsaDent Thu 22-Oct-15 22:33:39

Try making your own scarf hanger with a coat hanger with trouser hanging bit and shower curtain rings - hang the rings form the trouser bit and then one scarf per ring - perfect. I made one a couple of weeks ago takes 12 scarves, all easy to see and now hanging near the front door so I actually wear them now. Got the idea from my 85 year old mum!

Longdistancegrnny Thu 22-Oct-15 23:19:29

Oh dear I can feel a scarf sort out coming on, you all sound very organised. I have masses of scarves and they are in a chest in my bedroom, but I can never find the one I want so they get even more jumbled up. I know I have some lovely ones, if only I could find them!
So this week I tried on and sorted out jeans and jeggings (20 or so pairs!) - scarves next week....

Yes charity shops. I was in England last week and as I have no free buspass I needed change for my ticket. I dashed into a charity shop and bought a scarf for £2. Later in the week when I was leaving for the taxi to the station to go home, I saw it hanging in the hall, and slung it round my neck.
On the train to Manchester Airport a women sitting opposite complimented me on the very pretty scarf and how nice it looked.
Scarves make all the difference!

I have quite a lot of scarves, some are on an old tie rack that I picked up from somewhere, and I've had the same idea as FionaElsaDent re putting the rest on shower curtain rings. I haven't had to buy rings specially.

Whenever I buy a new shower curtain it comes with a set of rings, but I always leave the old ones in place as it's too much hassle to take a set off for no particular reason. These are my 'dressy' scarves.

My winter scarves to be worn when cycling or walking usually live on hooks in the hall from November to March before being put away in bags during milder weather.

I have a couple of transparent plastic boxes with lids. Scarves in season are in the box in the wardrobe, out of season ones under the spare bed. Because the box is transparent I can see them all - otherwise I would forget I had half of them!

I have a bamboo ladder int he corner of the bedroom where I store all scarves- and some necklaces - love it.

JackyB Tue 12-Jan-16 11:35:37

Lona - Can you post the links for the ways to tie scarves, please?

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 12-Jan-16 12:21:56

Am I the only person who just drops scarves in a pile on an available surface? (In my case, an old bread crock standing in the hall)

Elegran Tue 12-Jan-16 12:29:03

Or hangs them on the coathooks in the cloakroom? Or puts them on top of the filing cabinet (also in the cloakroom, along with the ironing board, two clothes horses, a rolled-up rug for covering the hall carpet when it is dirty weather outside, a shopping trolley, an umbrella stand full of brollies and sticks, a shoerack - oh and a lot of coats.
