Are we counting such things as shampoo, shower gel or soap, deodorant etc or is that taken as read?
Because my list could go on and on although I must admit I have never heard of some of the things in other posts!

It shows why there are so many different products - we nearly all have different favourites!

I said earlier that I don't use much, however I received A bottle of channel no 5 from DD, I use it almost every day (in case it goes off) and someone else mentions Palmers cocoa butter which I use too, I love the stuff, apart from any old shampoo/handwash/soap that is on offer I don't use much else.

Can anyone recommend a really good volumising shampoo and conditioner I have really really fine hair. Five things I would not be able to do without are:

Nivea face cream
Touché eclair for dark circles under eyes
Mascara
Nivea waterproof mascara remover (excellent)
Rive gauche perfume

I assumed things like soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deoderant etc - and brushes and combs were everyday utility items and we were just talking beauty products.

thatbags Sat 30-Jan-16 15:39:20

If those things are all excluded, I can't think of five beauty products that I can't do without. In fact, I'm struggling to think of any. I use a simple, unperfumed moisturiser but I use it for comfort, not beauty. Likewise lip salve. That's the sum total of my 'beauty' products.

Lee the hairdresser
Neutrogena body lotion
Touche éclat
Number 7 BB tinted moisturiser
Silkepil (dehairing electric thingy)
And Sharon the beautician for eyelashes and eyebrows.

Max Factor Black Mascara - am NEVER seen without it (apart from DH first thing in the morning!)

GHD's - again could not exist a day without them!

Aussie shampoo and conditioner for highlighted hair

Molton Brown Heavenly Gingerlily (now just called Gingerlily!) Shower/Bath Wash

Olay pro X and Olay Regenerist Serum plus Olay regenerist Facial Scrub and Cleansing Cloths (I know I cheated here wink

Tweezers are a given I reckon!!

I could go on as I definitely need eyeshadow and tinted lip salve!

Will stop now ........... wink

Sillynanny65 I can thoroughly recommend L'Anza healing shampoo - it costs a fortune and is worth every penny. They do various types including one for ageing hair; I use the volumising one and my hair has never been so soft or obedient. (Try BeautyBay for a good price)
So - my list:
L'Anza shampoo
AvonCare Royal Jelly hand cream
Neals Yard Frankincense facial serum
Neals Yard Wild Rose beauty balm
Neals Yard Citrus hand wash which I use dozens of times a day

all of which are expensive but last almost forever.

If anyone uses a mascara that makes eyelashes out of almost nothing without leaving splodges underneath I'd be grateful.

Basics, whatever the diary says (or doesn't say!) - eye cream; day moisturiser; baby cream for hands and body;pearl drops whitening toothpaste;hot brush.

However,if trying to avoid frightening the rest of the population: Estee Lauder Doublewear foundation (best I've found so far for evening out skin tone) lipstick and mascara; No. 7 blusher; and Bourgeois eyeliner pencils which are relatively cheap and don't drag the skin!

Olay moisturiser.
Max factor lipstick
Colour protection shampoo L'oreal
Christian Dior Dune Eu de toilette
Boots - intelligent colour foundation.

I'm amazed - or perhaps ashamed - to see that so many of you wear make-up. Although I'm still a working lass, I haven't worn make-up for at least 15 years. I always have perfume or eau de toilette in my handbag, but I always forget to use it.

And I'm also intrigued that you all need tweezers for your chin. I only use them on whiskers which sprout on my upper lip. Perhaps I ought to get new glasses to see if I have whiskers on my chin, too.

I have one that keeps coming up on my neck, and sometimes I get what we used to call "horse hairs" appearing on my neck, too. Weren't there yesterday, an inch and a half long today, sort of thing.

pollyparrot Sun 31-Jan-16 10:39:09

I'm surprised about the makeup. I can't stand wearing the stuff. My face doesn't feel clean with makeup on, and my eyes are so sensitive I'd have rubbed anything off within about 10 minutes.

NanKate Sun 31-Jan-16 16:53:17

Now this is going to cause a bit of a stir. It is not meant to be offensive to those who don't wear makeup.

I have two or three friends who wear no makeup and I have this great desire to put a bit of slap on their face to even out their skin tone, a bit of blusher, a dab of lipstick and some mascara voila a younger looking face.

Finally those who have straggly eyebrows really make me want to whip out the tweezers and sort them out.

Makeup doesn't have to look false or overdone. I NEVER leave the house without putting on makeup and tidying my hair. grin

morethan2 Sun 31-Jan-16 17:33:28

If I didn't wear a bit of makeup I'd frighten the public. I'm not much better with it on to be truthful. My five items would be 1 high factor sun cream,2 bare minerals powder to cover my red face, 3 coconut oil to moisturise everywhere, 4 tweezers/razor (I think these should be counted as one because there both for removing hair) and Kerastase shampoo

pollyparrot Sun 31-Jan-16 17:41:16

Blimey, Nankate I still have my brows done and comb my hair. Not wearing makeup doesn't mean I'm a scarecrow!

Jalima Sun 31-Jan-16 17:43:49

Do we have to count sun cream - or is that an essential like shampoo etc?

My eyes are sensitive too so I wear very little, if any eye makeup, and never any makeup at home

NanKate Sun 31-Jan-16 18:11:19

I'm sure you look good Polly with you neat brows and styled hair.

The joy of getting older is you can make your own decisions in life and either wear or not wear makeup.

Maggiemaybe Sun 31-Jan-16 18:12:50

If I have to stick to 5, it would be tweezers, face wipes, day cream, night cream, Batiste dry shampoo.

If it's what I actually need, and what stops me frightening the horses when I venture out, I'd add volumising shampoo, face serum or facial oil, eye cream, foundation, cream blusher, lip pencil, lippy, eye pencil, brow pencil, mascara, eye liner, perfume, hand cream, body butter, nail cream, nail varnish, nail varnish remover, volumising mousse, concealer, cuticle cream. The only thing I've given up in recent years is eye shadow, on the orders of my contact lens optician (I still use it on special occasions though).

Apart from the Batiste, I'm a tart when it comes to brands - anything decent that's on special offer will do.

Jalima Sun 31-Jan-16 18:16:14

pollyparrot I never comb my hair grin

(no, I'm not a complete slob, I do use a brush and carry a very small one in my bag, but rarely brush my hair when I'm out. I see women in the 'powder rooms' of shops applying more lippie and brushing their hair, but I never do hmm)

pollyparrot Sun 31-Jan-16 19:32:46

I usually have my hair up, when I'm out, so no brushing required.

Jalima Sun 31-Jan-16 22:50:49

Mine was cut too short last week to put up

Jalima Sun 31-Jan-16 22:51:25
