When should you get your hair cut! At seventy, I have good hair, lots of grey coming in, but I have a few highlights put in. Some of my friends say I would look younger if I had it chopped off, trouble is once it's one would I regret it, enjoy the fact that one bit of me is still ok.the rest is slowly giving up.

Thank you wot, I like to think I'm open minded and love a good debate! I love Coolgran65's blow drying to a 'stage of straggly' too lol smile

This is a most depressing post! All these mature women with thick long hair not even grey sometimes. My lovely auburn hair has gone and been replaced with thin wispy hair, .blondish. If i had long thick hair i would keep it!
You are so lucky.

Yes, this thread did make me feel low. My hair went from nearly black to white which I discovered when I was not in a health position to dye it. So I've grown it long. Most posters on here thought long hair on a 65 year old was not good. I've got over it now!. I can always have it cut when I get REALLY old!!

If my hair became really thin, I'd seriously consider wearing a syrup (of figs....wigs!)

rosesarered Sat 09-Apr-16 21:45:38

There are some lovely syrups about Wot smile I don't need one, and they are very expensive, but I wouldn't mind a change. You stay happy with your long hair,
We should all do whatever we want.... It's ours isn't it?

We used to wear wigs in the very early 70s and I loved them. My fiance never knew who he was taking out each night! Only used to have cheap nylon ones from Brixton .

wot Sat 09-Apr-16 22:06:31

Ha ha ha! grin

wot Sat 09-Apr-16 22:08:09

And they kept your head warm in the winter!

Oh well, he got variety for his money then grin I remember those lovely wig boutiques, I had two really nice hairpieces to clip on.

wot Sat 09-Apr-16 22:13:36

He hasn't got ANY hair left now, poor soul. We never mention it though. I haven't seen him 'in the flesh' for 40 years but we're email and photo friends.

Your hair is lovely wot and definitely not in the thin and scraggly category! shock I don't think anybody who posted a photo fits in that category. On the other hand, I don't think Mary Beard's hair does her any favours, but she clearly doesn't care and that's her choice.

I love messing about with my hair and would love to have the nerve to wear a wig. I bought a nice brown chin length bob from eBay a few years ago and although it looks nice, I haven't got the courage to wear it out the house. Same thing with the fab clip in fringe I bought from eBay as well. I wish wigs were a popular accessory like a bag or shoes. sad

They were, back in the mid to late 60's and early 70's, pity that they don't make a comback.I remember at a dance in the late 60's saying to a friend ( about another girl we spotted with lovely coloured hair ' great wig' ( and meaning it.)

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 09-Apr-16 23:09:40

My Mum says wigs were hot and sweaty back then. She tells a funny story about her wig slowly creeping up her scalp once when she was on the bus! grin She looked lovely with her different hairpieces though and I think it was the hairdresser who put them in for her. I'm pretty sure she could leave her wig at the hairdressers for a blowdry too.

I got my bun things from ebay today so I'm going to wrestle with them tomorrow. I used to do a thick plait but it made my arms ache.

wot Sat 09-Apr-16 23:12:36

I used to wash my wigs and bung them on a polystyrene head. My sister's 2 year old boy used to be terrified of the heads . I couldn't help laughing.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 09-Apr-16 23:20:17

My Mum had a white head for her wig, so I bet it was polystyrene. I drew a face and hair on it - badly of course! grin

What kind of bun thing did you get in the end wot?

wot Sat 09-Apr-16 23:39:15

Wilma, why not wear your wig. If you put grips in it along the ear it won't show. I used to go ice skating in mine and it never fell off. One of mine used to have a scalp looking thing along the parting.

wot Sat 09-Apr-16 23:43:35

They were blonde coloured spongy sausage looking things with a snap fastener and a elastic band. You have to roll your hair round it and plonk it on top of yer 'ed. One of them is massive and resembles a cottage loaf.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 09-Apr-16 23:57:03

I might wear the wig the next time I meet some friends for lunch. They think I'm half daft anyway, so it will give them a laugh! grin

Love your description of your bun bits! Must admit, I'm not keen on the current fashion for the cottage loaf sitting on top of your head. It needs to sit back a bit imho. wink Look forward to hearing how you get on tomorrow! grin

wot Sun 10-Apr-16 00:10:20

I bet you'll look great! My bun things don't look very savoury and partner thought they were pan scourers! I'll probably get cross with them and hurl them out of the window. I'd rather have a semi messy topknot do.

boheminan Sun 10-Apr-16 00:17:14

...does that mean you'll have a wot not? (Sorry, I'm going to bed now) better duck on me way outshock

wot Sun 10-Apr-16 00:24:15

Hey! That's clever, Bo!

I lost my hair 2 years ago to chemotherapy. It's short now because I can't face the long wait to regrow it, even if the original texture came back (it's really wiry now). Enjoy it while you can! When it gets too wiry, or too thin, or you just can't be bothered to take care of it - then cut it.

wot Sun 10-Apr-16 00:49:54

I'm really sorry you lost your hair henbane. It must be traumatic for you. I hope you are better now.

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 10-Apr-16 01:46:16

hen I'm sorry too about losing your hair. How strange it should grow back with a different texture. flowers
