I was watching a dept. store clothing consultant on tv giving hints on how to dress to look younger and thinner when over 50. She said we shouldn't wear t-shirts but tops with interests and v neck when possible. Use Blazers often and be careful with prints because they can scream old woman. I think she is right about the cotton t shirts I've gone through my closet and purged them.I may save a few for home wear and gardening. I have summer blouses I can wear I'll just have to get the iron out!

I agree that it was good when you could choose the length of M&S T shirts. It seems to be assumed that those of us who are broad in the beam want long tops to cover the bulges. Actually, that just makes us look bigger. M&S used to do tops that would just reach to the top of the hip bone (above the bulge!) which was more flattering. Manufacturers please note that larger women don't want to look like tents!

Baby - I can't find blazers or other jackets to cover my bum - the current fashion is much too short, I think, drawing attention to the bit I want to hide. I agree with you re T shirts, but I think I'd rather look like a tent than a barrel.blush

How to dress age appropriately: wear clothes.

I suppose the problem is that we are all different and ready made clothes tend to be all the same! Maybe I should pluck up the courage to get out my sewing machine again.

I do agree with littlefierce that we shouldn't worry too much about being "age appropriate, though.

I can't say I give a fig about what anyone else thinks. I'm 62, I frequently wear crazy colours in my now naturally white hair (and have had more than 1 compliment from strangers about it!) and I adore "in your face" colours and patterns in my jeans, tops , jewellery, shoes and bags. Why should I turn into a boring cardboard character when inside I still feel young?
