The following are meant as statements not criticisms.

Why does Jenni Murray appear to wear black bin bags most of the time ?

Kate Bliss from Bargain Hunt wears all the clothes that would suit me. I emailed her about a lovely jacket she wore and the next day she replied that she had bought it in the sale at Laura Ashley's.

Why does the lovely funny Paul Merton look like an old man in his flat cap and jacket on his railway programme ?

How does Judi Dench look effortlessly chic in her loose fitting tops and trousers ?

Over to you.

Yes,you've either got it or you haven't,It's not something money can buy,a lot of celebs don't have it.Judy Dench Definatly got it,it comes from within.Apparently( so I'm often told) I have it.

kittylester Sun 15-May-16 16:26:02

It is my aim to look like Judi Dench! envy it does come from within, I'm sure, it's about being comfortable in one's own skin. I could wear Judi Dench's clothes and look like a bag lady. sad

grannylyn65 Sun 15-May-16 16:27:43

I definately don't have it !!!

f77ms Sun 15-May-16 16:36:38

I don`t have it , I never really `dress up` and tend to wear the same sort of things , casual but pretty clothes often floaty type tops with tapered trousers or harem pants and flat shoes . Always wear make up though , it makes me feel so much better .
I always wonder what I would look like if I had a make over with money no object , it would be fun but not sure I would be comfortable !
I think I am just an old hippy really grin

hildajenniJ Sun 15-May-16 16:38:34

All my life I have been trying to find my style. Unfortunately I have failed miserably. I still wear the same type of clothes that I wore in my 30's. I seriously need some help!

f77ms Sun 15-May-16 16:42:06

hilda I think most of us do . I read an article once which said that you stay in the style you were wearing when you first fell in love !!! It certainly applies to me ...

Ana Sun 15-May-16 17:13:09

I'm glad it doesn't apply to me - I'd still be wearing loons and cheesecloth smocks! grin

annodomini Sun 15-May-16 17:28:35

I'd be wearing near-mini dresses and they would not look great with my legs as they are now - fifty years later!

Alima Sun 15-May-16 17:28:55

And what, pray tell, is wrong with loons? I had a pair soooo wide if I walked fast enough my ankles would get tied together.
You either have it or you don't. I never have.

annodomini Sun 15-May-16 17:33:50

Come to think of it, back in the '60s, I loved empire line dresses and made several for myself. My wedding dress and the bridesmaid dresses my mum and I made for my sister's wedding were all empire. As I had a waistline in those days, I had nothing to hide!

I have always wanted to go down the scarves route. Some women look amazing in them. Why are they so big? The ones I come across in the shops are big enough to move into. What is the secret of wearing a scarf without it looking very odd?

Marmark1 Sun 15-May-16 19:23:23

IT,is not so much what your wearing,as how your wearing it. IT,is something from within that shows on the outside.IT is more about being able to carry it off,and knowing how to wear it.Two people could wear exactly the same thing etc.
Some celebs on the red carpet can spend thousands on their outfit and look awful, another can be wearing the simplest, and look fabulous.

Teetime Sun 15-May-16 19:28:11

Oh I have never had it no matter how much I spend and as for sca4ves I all but gartte myself every time I waer one. P S Judy Dench has a stylist and she can look quite dumpy and plain

A bit like dandruff ?grin
(CBA if I don't)

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 15-May-16 19:55:49

"you stay in the style you were wearing when you first fell in love"

confused Circular skirts and scratchy stiffened net petticoats? I don't think so! grin

whitewave Sun 15-May-16 19:56:09

I've never had it, always wanted it but never achieved it.

BBbevan Sun 15-May-16 20:34:35

I couldn't find it.

LullyDully Sun 15-May-16 20:55:25

Never had it. I do have a couple of friends who I always thought would even look good in a bin bag.

I think it helps if you have a small bust. Don't think I can ever look sleek with big boobs.confused

NanKate Sun 15-May-16 21:24:21

Well as I said Lully Jenni Murray regularly wears black bin bags. She has money, a friendly face, is super intelligent. I know she is quite big, or was, but that is no reason to dress so terribly. On the other hand she may like what she wears.

I wonder what she would say about the pjs I am wearing at present which are grey covered in coloured spots with a short sleeved top with sparkly flowers on the front. smile

merlotgran Sun 15-May-16 21:34:32

Just watching Helen Mirren on the Queen's 90th birthday thingy.

Love her new hairstyle.

Jalima Sun 15-May-16 21:49:28

"you stay in the style you were wearing when you first fell in love"
Do they mean the first time you fell in love ie when you were 15 with that gorgeous boy from the grammar school, or do they mean your DH?

Jayh Sun 15-May-16 21:57:27

My friend is the spitting image of Judy Dench and dresses with real style. I am envy.

Anniebach Sun 15-May-16 21:58:15

I think I am too for a gym slip . Anyway what ever it is - I don't want to have it

Indinana Sun 15-May-16 22:00:24

I think I had it once without properly realising I had it, but I definitely lost it somewhere along the way. Haven't got it now. Can't remember where I put it or when I last saw it.
I'm definitely not still in the style I was wearing when I first fell in love - I remember from that time a red, green and white mini kilt (very mini shock), with a bright red seersucker shirt and bottle green knitted waistcoat and - wait for it - bottle green knee high socks with white pearl buttons down the outside, and black 'tap shoes' (that is, in the style of) with inch wide red ribbon ties. If I rocked up anywhere these days dressed like that I'd probably be sectioned.
