Is it a fashion statement ?

In the 1960s if you coloured you hair when re growth came through there was a dash to the Hairdressers to get your roots touched up.

Nowadays that does seem to happen. The lovely Ellie on Countryfile has this awful dark parting against her blonde locks sad . Lots of other celebrities do the same.

Do you think they leave it on purpose ?

People pay for that look around here. They get dark roots put in. It's a great time to grow your hair colour out and look fashionable.

That's assuming we still have dark roots!!!

Ana Sun 22-May-16 20:05:47

I seem to remember it was a popular look among older celebs etc. a couple of years ago, apparently to show the world that they weren't going grey...hmm

My problem is, if I let my colour grow out, I get WHITE roots!

NotTooOld Sun 22-May-16 22:42:25

My grey roots are about three inches long now. Looks terrible but I keep having it trimmed so another six months and I'll be a silver fox. smile

I like the look of silver locks.

Recently I was trying on some frames at my optician's, I have been going to him for about 25 years. He prides himself of being able to judge whether his client's choice will suit them.

I tried on a rather nice purple pair and he said 'oh no you can't have those as they make your hair look greyer'. And there's me thinking my locks look ash blonde grin

As a blonde, I never had dark roots. Now? I have my hair streaked white, to increase the whiteness of my locks...

Yes! I've been thinking the same Nankate. I think so many of the celebs have gone bottle blonde that they don't care who knows it anymore.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 23-May-16 13:08:00

It's weird how they all copy each other.

There is very little originality nowadays.
Except for Michael Portillo who always looks as if he enjoys his clothes. Makes me smile too. smile

Trinny Woodhall is now sporting grey hair. The colour looks fine but she still has the lank drippy style which just makes her look old. Strange really since she has lip fillers so it's not as if she doesn't care.

Nonnie1 Mon 23-May-16 13:35:41

Synonymous I love Michael Portillo. I wish more people were like him.

wot Mon 23-May-16 13:50:41

I like him too.?

gettingonabit Mon 23-May-16 15:38:28

Another vote for Michael Portillo's clothes. smile.

I always remember Debbie Harry bursting on the scene with her bottle blonde hair with black roots. I always wanted to look like her....envy.

Yes, we need more originality in the public eye.

Aye, there's the rub.

I've had grey roots for some time and recently suggested that I just admit it and go grey. My husband, who usually sits on the fence for this type of discussion, said HE was not ready for me to go grey. As what remains of his hair has been grey for ages I was speechless!

I bumped into a friend today in M&S, had to look twice because she had changed her hair colour from a blondy white to cobalt blue, with blue nails to match!
She had it done specially for her daughter's wedding a couple of weeks ago, when she was wearing a blue dress.
She is 76 and looked fabulous!

I am also growing my hair out to become a grey fox - by Xmas! I am finding it liberating not to have to rush off every six weeks to get my roots done, it's hard work getting rid of the red/orange that has been my signature for the last 16 years, but am loving my ever-changing hair and can't wait for the grey to grow so I can add blue or purple to the ends!!! Ellie, on Countryfile is very sensibly not using unnecessary chemicals during pregnancy.

I am on the silver fox journey to know. I was a very dark brunette and been having it coloured for years so now we have started lighter highlights which I found lifted my face a bit will keep on with that and letting the grey grow through i am looking forward to being all grey now

Nowadays, coloring the hair is a good fashion statement.I prefer dark brown color for my hair and I love it.
Thanks!!

Marmark1 Sun 12-Jun-16 08:57:47

I was very dark naturally,I used to colour it,but when it grew back after chemotherapy I started just putting blonde highlights in it.But I haven't done it for weeks, and may not,may just stay grey. Some people are lucky, they have that lovely white hair.Mines more steely coloured.

Antjexix Sun 12-Jun-16 09:35:44

I have an about 4 inch regrowth which is grey (salt'n pepper). I've decided to go grey as I'm fed up with the roots showing 2 weeks after colouring. I was also fed up sitting at hairdressers for hours so now I'm going natural...and can't wait. I'm 45. My sister has done the same and looks fab.

baubles Sun 12-Jun-16 10:01:16

Antjexix how long is your hair? I'd love to let mine go grey but it is shoulder length and I've been colouring it for years. I'm naturally dark but have been bottle blonde for a few years now.

I really don't want to have it cut short as it's very thick and is only controllable when long.

I'm thinking a wig may be the answer. confused
