In the 1960s if you coloured you hair when re growth came through there was a dash to the Hairdressers to get your roots touched up.

Nowadays that does seem to happen. The lovely Ellie on Countryfile has this awful dark parting against her blonde locks sad . Lots of other celebrities do the same.

Do you think they leave it on purpose ?

baubles i had it cut into a chin length bob and slightly layered. I used to be dark too and then had it highlighted to make the transition easier. It doesn't look too bad and I can't wait for it to be all grey.

My DH us the same threexnanny He has very luxuriant gorgeous silver hair. we have agreed the cost (considerable-about £12 a week) of maintianing my brunette-ness comes out of the joint account and not 'my'money...
I am very tempted to grow it out though .Trying to lose weight so I can have a ' new look 'as suspect will have to buy some new clothes to go with silver hair ...

As posted recently, I have gone ash/champagne, after a brief dalliance with Scarlet!

My natural colour used to be a sort of chestnut red, but I got my first grey hairs in my twenties, my father was completely silver by 30, so It's genetic.

For years I have dyed it various shades of red, but as it grows like a weed, I would have the dreaded grey roots far too soon, making it very high maintenance!

So, 2 weeks ago I took the plunge and after 4 hours in the chair, and 3 applications of "stuff" I'm no longer red!

I think the only root growth I might get now will be white, which shouldn't show much, so looking forward to less time in the salon!smile

PS Is it only me that HATES the time spent at the hairdresser's? Wish I could drop my hair off, go and do other stuff then collect it once done!grin

Let my natural salt & pepper colour through about 4 years ago as I was tired of having it coloured and the cost went up so much. But I do love my visits to the hairdresser, back and leg massage chair while having it washed, head massage when the conditioner goes on, coffee and if wanted sandwiches while it is drying (naturally curly so go under the lamps for 20 or so minutes), up to date magazines to read, pure me time grin

A friend of mine told me how much she paid for highlights, over £20. I was gobsmacked. Ironically I coloured my hair for years but after a health scare and subsequent treatment my hair was in no state for colour. Now totally silver/grey and naturally curly the total cost a year for good cuts is less than £60. I do have to pay a fortune for good conditioner though.

I know a GN member who lives not too far from me in North Devon who pays around £80 for highlights, cut and blow dryshock

I'm currently sporting a neck length pink shade hairstyle. So if I left my roots they would be grey and look a little strange, not that I don't look strange anyway, but I don't care, to be honest. It's the least of my problems, me looking strange. grin
