Tights that are comfortable comfortable to wear

Which shop and or brand sells the most comfortable design in tights please? I'm tired of ending up with tights where the crotch is halfway to my knees despite buying a pair that should fit my size, or ladder at the slightest touch, or are short in the body section. I'm going to a wedding soon and I would like to be smart and comfortable. smile

All comments gratefully received.

I've never had any joy with hold-ups. They make their way gradually down my legs and end up in a huddle around my ankles.

Hold ups....arrrrgh, they Do fall down, avoid at all costs.

Only wear stockings. And even then, very seldom.

Has anyone tried hold-up? I have bought some for an upcoming cruise to the baltics (so warm evenings are unlikely). I worry that they will just suddenly fall down to my ankles blush

There are some great suggestions on here, thanks all! (Who needs Which? when you have Gransnet?)

I just wouldn't feel right in the planned outfit in bare legs (and regrettably no amount of self-tan is going to hide a prominent varicose vein).

I found a 20% discount voucher for Wolford on fig leaves.com. Just enter TWENTY at check out.

I wore Calvin Klein tights when I was working. They were not cheap but lasted well and were very comfortable.

I find if you buy a pair that has a gusset they fit better

Have you considered fake tan and no tights?

Blinko Mon 30-May-16 11:06:17

I have a drawer full of tights which I haven't worn for years. Tried a pair the other day and remembered why I haven't worn them for years. Trousers every time. Good luck with your search. There seem to be some good suggestions here.

I rarely wear tights these days, but cosyfeet do a range of 'comfortable' tights.

My size is petite and they do smaller sizes too. They're quite expensive, including delivery, but worth a look.

Good luck

Wolford every time - I have two pairs of black Wolfords I wear in winter and I bought them years ago - can't say when but they are definitely more than five years old and still comfortable and nice looking. I don't wear Summer tights as I think they are ageing - Clarins tan that you mix with moisturiser is excellent and again lasts for ever, I bought a little bottle last year and have well over half left. Big gulp at purchasing such expensive things but almost always you get what you pay for.

Wolford are wonderful but be prepared - crossed my legs, caught my stiletto heel in them and 'Bobs your uncle' £32 ruined! Special occasion tights I think but they are a fabulous fit and look great on.

I haven't worn tights for a long time as I rarely wear a dress or skirt nowadays. However, when I was wearing them I found some that were so comfortable, being stretchy enough to fit without the crutch coming halfway down my thighs. They are also ladder-resistant. They are a pricier than the usual, high-street tights but after buying my first pair locally, I managed to find some at a good price online. The name of these tights? Pretty Polly Curves smile.

I used to wear BHS body free suspender tights at work: because they were crotchless they were easy to adjust to size and comfortable to wear.

"Hold you in" tights do tend to stay up better, but unless you need the tummy support don't buy the heavy duty Dreadnought ones or you may find they cut in to und the waist creating a nasty muffin top.
You could risk "Hold ups" but they only ever seem to work when new and the consequences of them not holding up are dire sad

There are no tights that are comfortable to wear! Horrid things. Trousers/jeans every time.

When my son married I bought an eye wateringly expensive outfit and the shop offered me a pair of tights FREE. (WOW!) They were amazingly comfortable, and although I almost choked when I saw the price on the packet (£20, and this was nine years ago) they lasted for years and were incredibly comfortable. They were, I am sure, 'Wolford Wolsey' or something very similar. I saved them for special occasions - they were silky, stretchy but not baggy, and I could wear them without even thinking about drooping knees and a waistband edging down. Likely to be abut £30 now but worth it if you consider the 'cost per wear' - they probably worked out cheaper than Poundland in the end.

Funny how everyone I know seems to have gone over to trousers, so there has been quite a shift over the last 20 years or so

I used to find that most tights pinched me terribly in the middle. But I find these M&S ones very comfortable www.marksandspencer.com/100-denier-velvet-touch-opaque-tights-1-pair-pack/p/p22339130?image=SD_02_T60_5622_Y0_X_EC_90&color=BLACK&prevPage=plp I'm quite tall. They may be too thick for a summer wedding though?

Liz46 Mon 30-May-16 08:26:35

I have a big bag of tights but have not worn any for several years. I hate them.

Greenfinch Mon 30-May-16 08:24:11

I have always found Peacocks fine but most of their shops seem to have closed now.sad

whitewave Mon 30-May-16 08:18:25

Yes but look at the price £29 for support tights!!!!!

Auntieflo Mon 30-May-16 08:04:57

I've just googled David Nieper tights. Oh the legs! envy. Shouldn't be allowed.

Auntieflo Mon 30-May-16 07:59:55

Tegan and Grannyknot, I also belong in your size group. I do wear tights , as I find they stop my thighs rubbing, sorry, too much info blush. M&S are OK as are some of Tesco tights, if they have gussets, nice smile On the plus side, they are reasonably cheap and last a while.
