Which anti-ageing products really work?

Anti-ageing products are big business and there are so many to choose from! The price tags can vary from cheap to outrageous, as are the claims about what some of them can do for you.

Bearing in mind how expensive some of them are, has anyone found any that really work? If so, please tell us which ones!

Is it really possible to make wrinkles or age spots vanish simply by taking pills or slapping on cream?

Are skin peels the answer for age spots or Botox the only solution for wrinkles, short of having a face lift?

I am very tempted to say the only thing that will stop ageing is death!! I prefer life with wrinkles. grin

Moisture is the key I think, I slap on anything with spf 15, currently using Aldi caviar day cream, cheap as chips and excellent, and I've tried lots of expensive stuff, that is no better. Wrinkles being kept reasonably at bay on this 66year old face is high strength Hyaluronic acid (sounds hideous I know) bought on line, recommended by pharmacist for dodgy knees, amazing for the knees, and added bonus, apparently Hyaluronic acid is in lots of very expensive anti wrinkle creams, seems to be working for me, plumps up the skin, nothing short of a miracle, I call it a double whammy! grin

No, anti-ageing products don't work. We age just like every other living thing on the planet, and then we (all living things) die.

So-called anti-ageing products might make your wrinkles more comfortable, e.g. by moisturising them, but that's all.

Yes of course. We have genetics which control our aging process. But No soap on the face and lots of moisture is helpful. You are what you are.

Jenty61 Sat 04-Jun-16 11:52:38

aging is a process we all go through creams and potions do not work...more money than sense springs to mind..as Lullydully says 'you are what you are'

Whiskey is pretty good, give hubby a bottle, after which he will think you look years younger. hmm

If you need a boost for a night out, or your own self esteem, any serum with hyaluronic acid and a moisturizing cream can tighten the skin and instantly take 5 years off you (temporarily). I have used l'oreal products all my life. Recently I have started adding a few drops of Frankincense essential oil to my face cream - an ancent eastern remedy!
A good foundation can cover a multitude of sins and Yves St Laurent's Touche Eclat is a great way to cover brown spots and blemishes if you can afford it ( I got it as a special offer when buying something else, and will be putting it on my Christmas present list!).
It's all vanity of course - the people I know with no wrinkles and smooth faces are all significantly overweight, (fat is nature's botox but it looks less attractive on the rest of the body). It also helps to eat plenty of veg, drink lots of water, and get lots of fresh air but without sun on the face.

and get lots of fresh air but not sun on your face.

Why o why does apple not give us a forward delete!

and it would be nice to be able to edit our own posts, say up to 10 minutes after posting.

I think people with darker skins generally age better. And those with oily skin. I think it's possible to LOOK younger by mousturising, using HA or similar, skin peels and exfoliating. I don't think Botox necessarily makes people look younger.

I use a face exerciser and I think it works. I've had a treatment called Genie (similar to Caci) and that worked, but it is expensive and high maintenance.

I think Pilates helps build strength and good posture. Strength=youth.

Otherwise, I think it's down to luck, hard work and financial investment.

Smiling! grin

None of them.

Lona Sun 05-Jun-16 13:20:03

Looking younger is a mixed blessing. People expect more of you than you can sometimes manage.
hmm

Look at your Mum. You will probably age in exactly the same way, whatever you put on your skin.

For the best results, start using face cream when you hit puberty.

Don't frown too often.

I use "Anti-age" face creams, but I couldn't tell if they're any better than any cheaper ones. Wouldn't spend more than 20 Euros on a pot of face cream myself.

Humour, and it costs nothing ;)

I have very dry skin, rarely had spots when young, but feel that I have not been so lucky when it comes to the wrinkles these days!

Mr P on the other hand has incredibly greasy skin, and looks younger than he is, and possibly younger than I doenvy

M0nica Sun 05-Jun-16 18:15:58

I am aging more like my father's family than my mother's.

I think being slim/petite helps too as there is a mental association with slimness and youth. I think one of the many for me is trying to look as though I have a waist. And keeping that pesky muffin top away.

I think excess weight seems to look different on older women. Young fat looks more solid, somehowgrin.

My fat seems to be sliding down my body and puddling around my legssad.

f77ms Mon 06-Jun-16 08:08:48

gettingonabit I agree with being slim helping and you can also find more fashionable clothes . I don`t think any face cream is any better than another , more to do with finding one which suits your skin . I am using Aldi Caviar on my very dry skin , it only makes it less dry and more comfortable , no miracles unfortunately .

Woops! grin. Didn't realise I'd posted that alreadyblush.

I've started to use Nip n Fab HA cleansing pads. I'm trying to convince myself they're working, as they're quite expensive.

I've been trying to track down AHA/ glycolic acid online. I used to get it from the USA, back in the day.

I think my skin is as good as it's ever been. I think it must be all the sleep I've been getting due to enforced underemployment! I always try to have a sneaky nap if I'm inwink.

One of the least wrinkled skins I've seen is on my 60 year old (male) cousin. He has the body and demeanour of an old man, is on a cocktail of drugs for mental health problems, but has a face as smooth as a baby's bum. hmm.

bluekarma Mon 06-Jun-16 09:52:43

Nannylovesshopping - can you give me more info please? Which website and the name of the product please. Interested in HA. Thanks x

goose1964 Mon 06-Jun-16 09:55:44

I agree it's mainly down to genetics but I think avoiding sun exposure is important, I base this on the fact that I have worn glasses since my early teens so the corner of my eyes has always been in the shade & I have hardly any crows feet compare with my same age friend who either never wore glasses or gave in to contacts, and our friend who moved to NZ and has a serious outdoo life style is far more winkled than any of us

Icyalittle Mon 06-Jun-16 09:59:43

Slightly facetious, but the 5:2 diet! Amazing how much younger I seem (at least to me) having lost a stone.
