Evening all, as some may have read I recently went from Scarlet hair to something between and Champagne.

It looked great when my hairdresser finished it, but having washed it today, it's all over the place, can't do a thing with it!shock

I'm pretty certain it's all down to the amount of gunk that was slapped on it to get rid of the red, but any advice as to how to get it back under control would be appreciated!

PS have seen something using olive oil, which I have, also coconut oil, which I don't!

Oops, should say between ash and Champagne

I use moroccan hair oil, bought at Morrisons, just a few drops in the palm of my hands rubbed through my hair, tames it and makes it shiny.

Any shampoo with Argan oil softens the hair and makes it more manageable. Then maybe the treatment starbird suugests.

Yes, beware neat olive oil. I tried that in the 60's and it took so much washing to get it looking normal again. Turned my hair into greasy locks!
Special hair oil is fine - I love Liz Earle and also Moroccan. The other thing maybe is to leave conditioner on a little longer, and try not to rinse it all out, especially if you have curly hair.
And isn't it always the way - our hair looks great when we leave the hairdressers, but never quite the same when we do it ourselves!

Try ripe avocado mashed into olive oil then spread through damp hair. Leave for about 20 minutes then add shampoo, rub in to create an emulsion and finally rinse VERY well with cool water. Made my hair lovely and soft and shiny.

Many thanks for the responses, am now wondering which to try! smile

Normally I have great conditioned hair.

I got my hair lightened several (quite a few) shades a couple of weeks ago and the first time I washed it was so disappointed in the condition.

So...... good conditioner went on at the start of my shower and is rinsed off last. I also use that blue shampoo that costs a fortune to keep any brassiness away. When drying I make sure I kept the hairdryer directing down the hair to make it smooth as possible and use a vent brush. Then a tiny tiny drop of Argon hair oil smoothed over, not enough to weigh the hair down. The least possible amount of gel/wax to break it up and look a little casual.
Then a wee squish of Elnett spray because it brushes out easily.

Always always leave the conditioner as long as possible.
Sometimes I also use a leave in conditioner.

I'm glad to say that my hair is now back to feeling normal.

I think you should go back to the hairdresser and get their advice and show them what has happened.

I have become a convert to Aussie shampoo and conditioner - my baby fine flat hair would go fluffy in damp weather and I have never been able to do much with it except keep it clean and shiny! I tried Aussie for fine limp hair (there are many, including one for 'Naughty hair'-love it!) and it has worked wonderfully.

There must be one for you, phoenix. I would never have believed that a shampoo alone could make such a difference but it has. Good luck!

3 minute miracle by Aussie. It does what it says on the bottle! Wonderful stuff & won't break the bank.

Maybe comb through conditioner and leave overnight - place a rowel on the pillow. Wash off in morning.
Hair is always a bit weird after having it done !

Any big change of hair colour plays havoc with your hair but its the price you have to pay , it will be the stuff needed to get rid of the red (stripper) as it gets right into the hair cuticle . Basically you have to put the moisture back , Argon oil or coconut oil is a good moisturiser . Water down your shampoo as that also takes the moisture out . After a good conditioner use a good amount of serum rubbed into the end few inches and dry naturally or with a cool hairdryer . I don`t rate Aussie range but it is good for some people . Do you use straighteners , I have to if I want not to look like an explosion but I keep to a minimum .

I colour my own hair with Preference from L'Oreal. It comes with a large tube of conditioner which works wonders. I do it myself because hairdressers tend to strip all the colour out of your hair before putting on the colour and leave it in awful condition whereas my DIY stuff leave my hair multi toned and very natural looking.

Lush do a hair mask that brings dull hair back into condition.

oldgoat Mon 11-Jul-16 17:55:36

esspee I think the Perference conditioner works really well, too. Wish it was available to buy just on its own. There is enough in the tube for about three washes so I save it for when I want my hair to look its best.

Again, thank you all.

I use a conditioner for dry hair, and try to leave it in as long as possible, plus I have been using an Avon Moroccan oil spray which has given a bit of surface shine.

I think the 3 applications of "stuff" has taken its toll, but I still love the results, and it has been well received by friends and colleagues, so no regrets, especially as it should need colouring less often, so will save both time and money.

If I were you Phoenix I would eat the avocado and try the argan oil on your hair (oil not spray). I find a small amount makes my hair soft and easier to manage. Your new colour sounds really nice ..any chance of a piccy.? smile

Crafting I'm not terribly photogenic, but I'll think about it!grin

Many years ago when I worked outdoors all year round, I swore by vitamin e tablets/capsules during the winter months to help with my skin, it is supposedly also good for hair condition too, so I may go for both external and internal treatments, got to be worth a go?

I find the Phil Smith range of hair stuff, larger branches of Sainsbury's, are fine for my sometimes awkward hair, especially the Curly locks conditioner. Use a wide toothed comb or brush to spread it through the hair after shampooing and try and leave some in when you rinse. You can also use a little on dry hair - not too much, just a pea rubbed between the hands and where it really needs it.

I've tried everything else I can find - all the oils are too heavy.

I also colour my own hair - life's too short to spend hours in a hairdresser's and I've never had a problem. Your colour sounds lovely.
