Who has long hair, and what style. I still have mine long but am mindful of wanting a style to suit my age (63). Love to hear about others with long hair and how you wear it.

So when we're not thinking about world disasters, family crises, relationships and grandchildren and we catch sight of ourselves in the mirror, as has been said, reality does not always match up with how we really are. My hair is a boring white / grey shoulder bob. It's my daughters wedding in October and I feel like going out and suprising everyone with a champagne colour! Not so shocking for many, but for me would make a big impact! Should I be brave and just do it?

Hi Lemondrizzle,

Well I've had my hair long all my life. Just comb it up into a pony tail, I back comb slightly underneath to give it some body and then twirl it around, not at one complete time, I stop and grip and arrange into a style, easy peasy I do it every morning in 5 minutes.

Lemon drizzle and Elysium.
In this day and age my darlings you do what you want. Long hair is so feminine, it just needs a good styling. Don't take any notice of those that say 'when over 40 you should have short hair. Nuts to that! And Elysium, going really blonde is so 'invigorating' can't think of another word.
I have long hair, just past my shoulders, going very silver so I lowlight it by using a darkish blonde colour, gloves on, then select strands of hair, not too finely, dip fingers in the colour and drag my fingers along the length of hair from root to tip.
Cutting a long story short, I get so many comments along the lines of, ' wow,
you look so glamorous' - all in the eye of the beholder - I promise.
What I'm trying to say is just because we're no longer 39... or so, do what pleases you, you could just awaken the glamour puss in yourselves. Could you cope?
Go on, think about it.

I saw myself in the mirror this morning and thought I had a halo, but closer inspection revealed spilt ends and plenty of static.

I have long hair and leave it or grab it with a big slide.........it is all I can do with hair. It all seemed to look so much nicer when I was young and slim..........

Fine grey hair which is cut short, bit like Judy Dench hairstyle. Go every 5 weeks to have it cut and blowed dried and it's so easy to look after.

Glammanana I really envy your long thick hair. My sister who is 64 had thick blonde hair down to her bum until she recently donated it to charity for children who need wigs. No problem for her, it grows like a weed and will be almost back to where it was in a couple of years or so.
Mine is just below shoulder length, fine and blonde with some white streaks appearing. I long for thick straight hair that grows beyond my shoulders but it's never going to happen.

My hair is nipple length - which, with the ancient saggy boobs, means it is quite long! grin

I think you should have your hair in whatever way you prefer.
We don't see ourselves as others see us but then it is our hair and nothing to do with anyone else.

I too have long hair, some years ago I told DH I was going to grow out my blonde colour & return to my natural colour - it never happened I have not gone completely grey & look more blonde but it is all natural. I wear it tied back in a ponytail if I'm at home or in a loose bun with a hair clip (bulldog type). I had it cut into a bob when I was working but I cannot bear my hair all over my face when I am gardening so long it is for me grin

I haven't been to the hairdressers now for about 9 months. Just approaching my 60th and am booked in next Saturday. This was a last chance saloon. Thought I'd grow it long one last time. In future will keep it shoulder length. Doesn't really look right anymore. Straggly and getting whiter

Sorry - but long hair in your sixties DOESN'T WORK!

I have a shoulder length bob in a copper colour at the moment . I would never have short hair as it is so unflattering / unfeminine on me . I wear it up sometimes held with a crocodile clip or in a pony tail when I am feeling lazy and couldn`t be bothered to mess about with it. I assume it is now grey but will not stop colouring it as having grey hair would depress me ! It doesn`t matter how much people say their hair is a lovely shade of grey/white it is so ageing . A friend, who was a stunning looking woman, has let hers go white and it has added 10 years to her overnight . I suppose it is vanity on my part grin

angmhay only your opinion . I assume yours is short .

Luckygirl Sun 25-Sept-16 09:21:52

angmhay - tell that to the OH and the assorted other men who pay me compliments on my long hair!

I cannot imagine what you mean by doesn't work!
