When are you too old for leopard print?

If ever? And I don't mean head to toe chavtastic.

But I've got a lovely black jumper with a leopard print collar which I love and think looks very smart. But the other week my DH commented on it being unsuitable for me. Of course that made me insist on wearing it on every occasion but now I'm wondering if other people are perhaps thinking me mutton dressed as lamb...

In the 1970s I had a (fake) tigerskin coat. It was beautiful. Very fitted with a wide swingy skirt. I looked fabulous ( I thought!blush).

I think I've always been too old for leopard print. I've honestly never fancied anything in it

Jane10 Fri 25-Nov-16 16:29:11

Sorry Disgruntled I don't have a photo of that coat. I could take a pic but its so dark we've got the lights on and they're quite dim.

Never too old ..... Provided it's not micro mini, plunging neckline or just tarty!!!

I've just bought a Roberto Cavalli dress .... Leopard print with black accents. High neck, knee length etcetera

Shhhh don't tell him indoors!

Ana Fri 25-Nov-16 16:52:17

Why? Will he never get to see it? grin

Pamaga Fri 25-Nov-16 17:00:08

Never! I have a leopard print coat and leopard print brogues. I don't wear them together as that would be OTT but I love them and will continue to sport them until they or I fall to bits!

HannahLoisLuke Fri 25-Nov-16 17:45:09

No animal print for me but if you like it, go for it.

I always thought that leopard skin prints were rather a la 'Bet', the barmaid from Coronation Street (haven't watched that for twenty years so am a bit behind the times!) however....... I saw a drape-neck leopard skin top earlier in the year and in a moment of weakness, bought it.

I feel v glam when wearing it (and I tone it down with black slacks or a skirt worn with long boots) and think it looks fine.* We are never too old for a spot of old- world glamour.

Jane 10, I think you look great.

*It is also quite roomy so covers a multitude of sins, aka rolls of winter flab that should not be there.

Oh, I recently bought a fake fur (sort of brownish/tan, but with good 'fur' colouring/markings but I have no idea what type of fur it is supposed to be) gillet.

I have only been brave enough to wear it 'out' once. I think it looks stylish (that word ages me!) but do wonder if I am a tad too old.

Yesterday at a committee meeting a very smart woman, my age-ish, walked in wearing a grey 'fur' gillet and my first thought was that she looked great, so perhaps I will be brave enough to wear mine more often...

The last person's opinion on my dress style I'd listen to would be my husband's.
I'm a firm believer in wearing what you want to, when you want to.

As I recall, the Duchess of Windsor had a finely crafted leopard brooch by Chopard in her legacy jewellery collection. And she was quite an old lady.....

I love colour and love putting outfits together to wear. I always say ya don't wear a short skirt (above ya knee by more than an inch or two) once ya past 40. A fabric print is different though. Saying that it really depends on what the garment is. An older person in a leopard print tight body hugging cat suit would not be right (in my opinion). So, do you get my drift? It really depends what it is. A little leopard print cardigan over an elegant black dress could look smart for example. Black shoes though...ya don't want to over do it...hahaha

I have a cashmere leopard scarf and another bigger one I could wear as a sarong to go with my leopard print swimsuit (Ialso have a tiger print swimsuit). I also have skinny leopard print jeans, a pair of leopard print flatties and a really lovely fake leopard skin jacket which is actually very classy and everyone admires it when I wear it. Needless to say, I only wear one leopard item at a time! I'm 73! My husband loves them all and would never tell me what not to wear! Ignore what yours says and wear whatever you like- unless you tell him what to wear, of course!

Love abit of animal print, my granddaughters see it in the shops and always say nanny will love that.As long as it's in moderation it's fine, reminds me of Doreen birds of a feather.

grannyinmypocket Fri 25-Nov-16 23:15:41

, I had to get a shopping trolley as I keep pulling muscles, and I can't lift weight, so I thought if I have to get one I want a trendy one, and I like big cat print, so I got a leopard print one, you should have heard my daughters, ha ha who cares , it's great, I like leopard and tiger print, and Ive never had a garment with age restriction on the label so wear what you like, animal print is fine if you don't over do it,so I won't wear my faux leopard coat when out with my trolley, I've been called Bet Lynch before, ah well , I'm sure there's worse names to be called,

Maybe LyndaW you attract nice looks when wearing said leopard collar top, wear what makes you feel good I say.

I love animal prints on others but I have never worn them myself. But I have a new black top with see through sheer sleeves that I felt daring buying for a night out with old school friends.

Wear what we like and are comfy in, I say....grin

SparklyGrandma Sat 26-Nov-16 00:09:09

rosesarered grin do you mean Camilla....?

icanhandthemback Sat 26-Nov-16 00:33:02

Never. Wear what you like and hold your head up proudly. Why should you care what other people think of your clothes as long as you like them?

Nelliemoser Sat 26-Nov-16 01:21:42

Best left to live big cats IMO. Whatever age you are.

Piggypoo Sat 26-Nov-16 07:55:17

I love all things animal print, I've got leopard print undies, blankets, cushion covers, belts, scarves and handbags! My other half said I looked like a cross between Bet Lynch and Pat Butcher! Well, I don't care! I think it's great! smile

grannyinmypocket Sat 26-Nov-16 14:04:26

I also got 2 leopard print Biba cushions from friends for my 60th, I love them,

grannygrace Sun 27-Nov-16 16:55:23

Leopard print is fine for all ages, but a little of it not the whole gamut, and leopard print leggings are a definite no no if your not 18-25.

Jayem Sun 27-Nov-16 17:35:36

Did you ask your husband "in what way is it unsuitable?"

Zorro21 Sun 27-Nov-16 18:01:05

I love leopard print !!!

I think its classic, gorgeous and doesn't date at all. Don't change your spots!!!

Killarneygold Mon 28-Nov-16 11:35:44

I still wear leopard print, not head to toe but maybe a blouse, scarf, leggings etc and I think you will look stunning in a black jumper with a leopard print collar. As long as you feel good, wear it.
