When are you too old for leopard print?

If ever? And I don't mean head to toe chavtastic.

But I've got a lovely black jumper with a leopard print collar which I love and think looks very smart. But the other week my DH commented on it being unsuitable for me. Of course that made me insist on wearing it on every occasion but now I'm wondering if other people are perhaps thinking me mutton dressed as lamb...

I don't think my silly slippers are ladylike - but I like them!

You re too old once you re dead! I love fake animal prints, but never more than one at a time! A wee touch is smart!

Luckygirl Fri 25-Nov-16 11:33:08

You are always too old for leopard print - just do not go there. grin

I have been completely indoctrinated by my mum who always said that leopard print was 'common' and it always brings Bet Lynch to mind for me. I think at 68 I should get over it!

Luckgirl its far too late for me! Obviously I have embraced my inner commoner. Good.

I say wear what you like - it's how you feel in it. Wish I could still wear mini-skirts (great legs) but carry a lot bit too much weight also can no longer wear "skyscraper" heels - flats only for me now sad

In my teens fake croc was in & I had lots, coat, belts, shoes. If I like something I wear it - too old to care very much, DD would tell me if she hated it grin, Also used to wear fake fur jackets. I have a leopard print top which I love smile

Linda, if you feel good you will look good! Wear what you like and stay young.....but I don't think a Granny in a mini skirt would look right some how. :-) You are too young for a rocking chair and saggy stockings I would say. Save that for your nineties!

Tiredoldwoman - Go for the Slimming World eating plan if you have put on weight - it worked for me I lost Two stone this year.

Lewlew Fri 25-Nov-16 12:04:49

I have one of these... DH does not think I am too old for it at all. (It's a bigger size than this pic!) grin

I have only just embraced animal prints in my 50s I have ankle boots that give me a funky surprise look when I'm in boring jeans and a black jacket. I went the whole crazy way and bought a fake fur coat which I trot out on "sparkly" occasions I look like Diana Dors. I want to be a little extravagant sometimes and these make me happy x oh and I have a zebra cardi that always gets admired with a black dress. Go for it!

SussexGirl60 Fri 25-Nov-16 12:11:23

If it makes you feel good, I'd say wear it! We're only talking about clothes after all...

NannyMargaret48 Fri 25-Nov-16 12:40:08

Never!! Wear what you want.

Jane10 Fri 25-Nov-16 12:53:53

I've got a black and silver zebra patterned frock coat that I wore over a black vest and trousers to several weddings and royal garden party. Its comfortable and makes me look as if I've made an effort!
(Honestly it is nicer than it sounds!)

joannewton46 Fri 25-Nov-16 13:05:27

Personally I was born too old for it. BUT if you like it wear it! You're too old to be told what to wear by other people by the age of 12 and I bet you're a few years older than that.

nancyma Fri 25-Nov-16 13:06:40

I think your husband may think you look a bit too good, perhaps he could wear a green pullover.....

Skweek1 Fri 25-Nov-16 13:20:50

I'm allergic to man-made fibres so can't wear them, and wouldn't, in any case, just because I'm not very keen on them. But ignore him - if you want to wear leopard/tiger/cheetah/zebra skin, polka dots, Hawaaian shirts, skinny jeans/leotards/jeggings/stripes or any other clothing style or pattern go ahead - there's no age limit on whatever you like and don't let anyone tell you different.I keep reminding myself that if 60 is the new 40, 85, if not 90, must be the new 60 at most! My biggest problem is that I'm 5'0" and floaty feminine gypsy-look skirts/maxi dresses, which I love and trousers are all either sized for 6'6" ladies or M&S boring. I refuse to dress old (have always hated Eastex and crimplene-style clothes).

My 90 year old friend came after tai chi to cheer me up wearing one of her chunky handknit sweaters and leopard print jeggings. She swims regularly and cycles, an active mind in an active body! We enjoyed Aldi's spicy Lebkuchen and recommended books to each other. Was this hygge? Probably!

Jane10 Fri 25-Nov-16 13:25:16

Certainly sounds like it Elrel!

Seasidenana Fri 25-Nov-16 13:38:16

I firmly believe you should wear whatever you like ! Personally I think too much animal print looks a bit naff - I have seen people wearing it head to toe. I don't think it looks right on anyone like that regardless of age. I think smaller touches look good teamed with other items. I have animal print scarves, flashes on boots, leopard jacket worn with plain trousers and top underneath. I'm 60 and I think it's fine.

Disgruntled Fri 25-Nov-16 13:53:16

Jane I love the sound of your outfit - have you got a photo?

Sheilasue Fri 25-Nov-16 13:55:11

Wear it, if you like it that's all that matters. Have a pair lepeord skin flat shoes I absolutely love em and i have a scarf too.

VIOLETTE Fri 25-Nov-16 14:05:50

Realised reading this I have NOTHNG leopard printed ....must go out immediately and rectify that !! I love anything different ,,,just bought sparkly silver and black boots and bag )o.k. I know matchy matchy is not the thing but I still can't shake off the habit of matching things ...was late out this morning trying to find my red and black velvet scarf ,,,,have been know to change an entire outfit if I can't find the thing I need to match it .....and I was only going to the paper shop,,,,hee hee ! sad life I lead ! Had to laugh though, before I met my second husband (through dateline, so only on the phone ) he told me that he had turned down one woman as she arrived from the plane in,,,,,shock horror......a leopardskin fake fur coat ! I straight away went out and bought a pleated skirt, blouse, jacket and even a brooch (and flat shoes cos he was shorter than me) ,,,,had to do this, as I really really wanted to live in Spain !!!..................go for it, if you like it and it makes you happy, why not ...we only live once its not a rehearsal ...

I have a leopard print fake fur coat which my aunt gave me, she wore it in the 60s its got the low slung half belt on the back and feels very nylon like, I must admit I have only wore it once as I feel a little conspicuous in it but whenever I see it I think of the good times she had wearing it .

Marydoll Fri 25-Nov-16 15:46:46

I have just bought a pair of leopard skin, kitten heel ankle boots from M&S. Can't wait to wear them. Got them reduced as well, so doubly pleased. Hope I don't look like Bett Lynch.

marionk Fri 25-Nov-16 16:23:24

Embrace your inner Dorian! Wear it and be damned!
