Where did THEY come from!?

Just wondering how often fellow GNs get measured for a bra? Having lost nearly 2 stone & realising my admittedly aging bras didn't really do the job any more, I went into M&S for a proper fitting. It took ages but the final, extremely comfortable result was worth it. However, it was quite a shock to find out I'd gone from a 38C to a 36DD ...DH is thrilled..!!

Only once in M & S and it was so uncomfortable I only wore it once. Well done on losing the weight and as long as you happy with the fit thats great. I'm a 38E and I hate it I'd love to be a 36C my perfect size if only grin

I was measured in M&S for a bra a couple of years ago, I was told I was a 34B, they tried about 6 but all had space for a sock or two in the cup, 34A cup was too small, 32B too tight. I left empty handed. I am now wearing training bras from Asda, very comfy and less than £5 for 2.

Having just been measured for, and bought, 3 new bras, dh and I have stopped drinking during the week. Guess where I've lost weight!

I've just bought two new bras from Debenhams. They offer a bra fitting service, but I couldn't find anyone to help. I just chose a few and tried them on. They are very comfortable and don't fall off my shoulders.

There is another thread about bras being uncomfortable and being measured in various stores. Glad m&s suited you as they didn't suit me after being measured and being told different sizes

Bravissimo for me. I was wearing totally the wrong size. I bought their bras and they changed the way I looked in my clothes.

I was measured in Rigby and Peller a while ago - what an experience and what a price £68 for a Bra!! £35 for the knickers - they were good though- back to M & S for me now.

I used to go to R and P when I had to visit London regularly.
I haven't been now for over 15 years. I'd love to go again

I find most 'structured' bras, with or without underwires, squash my boobs together instead of leaving the natural gap between them. I know cleavages on show are fashionable right now but it's not a look I crave. So I stick with pull-on Sloggis size S. Since I no longer dance I don't need firm control and the Sloggis are very comfortable.

I went to M & S for a fitting saying that I found under wired bras cut me in two. Assured that this was due to bad fitting I emerged with one. Within a week the wire became a cutting tool. Then I went John Lewis for a fitting. A lovely simple bra fitted beautifully.

I have always bought a 38c but when measured in m&s I was a 40D! When I tried that size on anywhere else it was back to 38c. Now buy M&co cotton bras in that size and they are lovely and comfortable and cheaper than m&s

Rather large in the chest department, despite having lost a fair bit of weight. I wear M & S Total Support non-wired. I always buy black because I think that large white bras look a bit comical. Perhaps all big bras do, but I prefer black.
I had a recall mammogram a few years ago and I'd been having some breast pain. Consultant told me never to wear wired bras (which I don't anyway) because they can squash the breast tissue and cause fibrosis.

To find out what size bra you need you are supposed to measure under your bust (without pulling the tape tight) and this is the size you need. To get your cup size you measure over the fullest part of your bust and use this table to check your sizing, if your cup measurement is bigger by: less than 1 inch (2.5 cm) = AA
1 inch (2.5 cm) = A
2 inches (5 cm) = B
3 inches (7.5 cm) = C
4 inches (10 cm) = D
5 inches (12.5 cm) = DD
6 inches (15 cm) = DDD (E in UK sizing)
7 inches (18 cm) = DDDD/F (F in UK sizing)
8 inches (20.5 cm) = G/H (FF in UK sizing)
9 inches (23 cm) = I/J (G in UK sizing)
10 inches (25.5 cm) = J (GG in UK sizing)

Even this isn't foolproof though - I have tried on bras from different manufacturers and gone up and down a cup and back size!

Anyone living in Weston super mare should go to Walker and Ling. Family department store with an excellent fitting service.

Yes Dot, this is what the M& S lady did. I'd had a go at home using various different measuring methods I found online - I came up with some really weird results! I bought a couple of bras from M&S and then went into Matalan, from where I've previously had good, cheap bras, and found 2 for a tenner ! Look almost the same as Marks's and so comfy. I like nude t shirt bras as they don't show under anything.

aggie Put the bra round your waist to do up the back bit at the front, swivel it round and hoist it up and put straps over your shoulders. Ta-da!

My funny experience was Debenhams fitting service . The lovely saleswoman was about to measure me , asked what size I thought I was,and I replied 40DD. Without measuring me she told me I was a 38FF..........and I was .

townie Fri 02-Dec-16 12:05:18

I go to Rigby and Peller - which I really recommend - every year to check size and order online in between.

MaryXYX Fri 02-Dec-16 12:26:31

It's 3 1/2 years since I was last measured and bought bras. I'm thinking it must be about time, although they do seem to fit. I get mine from Amoena with (expensive) inserts.

Craftycat Fri 02-Dec-16 13:58:45

Bravissimo are wonderful & will talk you through measuring over the phone. I have worn their gorgeous bras for years & as I am an unusual size they are great for me.

mags1234 Fri 02-Dec-16 15:38:54

Nearly everyone who is professionally fitted by a reputable specialist finds that the cup size goes up and the under bust size goes down. I recently lost over two stone but felt my breasts were getting lower by the day. I wore 38 or 40 ( can't suffer tight bras) f cup. Now I'm a 34 g .

Eloethan Fri 02-Dec-16 15:48:07

I find under wired bras very uncomfortable and so I now buy wire-less ones. They're much cheaper than the branded ones I used to get but more flattering and they don't cut in. I used to be a 34B and am now a 36C.

Caramac Fri 02-Dec-16 17:07:44

Bravissimo are great, lovely staff and a wide range of styles and colours at vfm prices. I wear underwired every day (34HH for running and and 36E for everyday). I also wear a seamless soft bra for bed.
