Gingham

Aaaggghhh ! School dresses spring to mind.
I've just read that strong pink is in vougue, I don't mind that but I loath the dresses that look like your great aunts curtains.

I usually find something for everyday wear in Sainsburys but I looked the other day and every top and dress did look like old curtain material really horrible

Do they make waders in gingham? Might make a bit of a splash (literally)!!

I thought yellow was in also. Saw a middle aged woman, yesterday,in top to toe yellow. It didn't do an awful lot for her. I quite like gingham though but only a bit at a time.

I've always liked gingham, never had it as a school dress though. I wouldn't wear it now as a whole garment, but as a trim could be nice.

Table clothes and picnic hampers yes

I like my yellow gingham bedding, but wouldn't wear it nowadays, except perhaps in a shirt. I remember in my youth making a sheath dress in that gingham which had bobbles in the weave (remember that?), in jewel colours, I loved it.

School summer skirts (red, green, yellow or blue gingham according to school house) and having to make cookery aprons & caps using the correct colours for pockets & matching ric-rac braiding.
The following summer term we used "leftover" gingham to assist with first attempts at smocking.

Have thus never liked gingham; nor flowery stuff, stripes make me look (& feel) like a humbug, uneven hems need sorting out...and PINK - no, nay, never....not for me!!!!

I guess I'll have to wear the same old stuff again..& again..& again (walks off into distance muttering).

I would wear all of them, except, perhaps, the uneven hems, but not all together. Pink is a colour that I have always found particularly flattering, especially the darker duskier rose pinks.

I used to love gingham. I had gingham dresses, gingham off the should peasant tops, gingham curtains in my kitchen. I wouldn't have it or wear it now, I would feel ridiculous but loved it at the time.

abysmaL I had a red empire line sheath like that. Still have a piece in patchwork quilt I made my DD years ago.

Have just bought new kitchen curtains in gingham

I have worn a tailored pink gingham shirt, small gingham pattern in the past and would wear it again. Large red, green or dark blue gingham does call out 'soft furnishing'

Oh yes, I have a lilac and white gingham shirt in the wardrobe, haven't worn it for ages and it looks fine with jeans.
I must have a rummage.
If you want to be in fashion, keep everything!

But not a dress .....

In the 70's I had a Gingham maxi dress with puff sleeves, perish the thought!! I would probably wear a gingham blouse now over jeans, it can look nice and fresh. Black and white would be nice I think.

I don't do Pink. It looks nice on other People, but if I wear it I look like I have died standing up

Oh Lord you reminded me I had a pink gingham maxi dress with heaven help us a match headscarf - I was 15!!! I suppose I would wear a checked shirt but that's not really gingham is it?

Our summer school uniform was a double gingham, square necked dress. When we got to the 3rd.form we could choose from 3 or4 patterns and have a dress made. Mine were shirtwaisters. Still the original school gingham, but with a stiff petticoat beneath---Oh I loved them.

When I was first married (in the early seventies) I made myself a pink gingham maxi dress with white smocking. I must look for a photo as I want to make a smocked dress for DGD. The gingham made preparing the smocking easy.

We must have all had those maxi dresses. I didn't mean a check shirt, Teetime. I meant a Gingham one. I am sure I have seen them, black and white can still be Gingham, can't it? You have me thinking now.
