Do you use it or have you tried it? I'm reading India Knight "In Your Prime" (won it from GN) and she waxes lyrical about it for everything from skin cream to hair conditioner to cooking (wasn't sure at first whether to post this "Health").

On a whim when doing my Ocado order I added Nutiva Coconut Oil when looking for a body moisturiser.

I'm just looking at the jar ... it's organic, virgin, cold-pressed and unrefined, suitable for sautéing, baking, and as a replacement for butter

No mention of dogs' corns grin

I don't know whether to eat it or slather it on my in need of maintenance body!

Just tried it as a mouthwash. Only managed 10 minutes, though. Turmeric is supposed to keep teeth white [odd, in that it stains everything else yellow confused]so, along with taking coconut oil in my golden paste and swishing my mouth out with it my oral health should be in top notch. Also, whippets have problems with their teeth in that they seem to be very prone to plaque. Impossible to brush their teeth [along with claw clipping etc]I'm wondering if having golden paste in her food and also having coconut oil on her paws [which she licks off] will improve her teeth. She's being sedated to have her claws clipped next week [it's that bad; she can't walk on pavements because of her corns so her claws just keep growing, and she won't let me near her with clippers] so I'll ask the vet to look at her teeth. She has a dentastix each day, though, but it will be interesting to see if the coconut oil is helping keep the plaque down.

Also buy from B and M bikergran, organic, I use it every day on face, legs, arms, face feet love it Never normally cream myself but really love this stuff have used it on athletes foot I just think it's wonderful

I put it on my dogs feet to stop her getting corns [something that sighthounds are prone to]. And make golden paste with it [turmeric, coconut oil and pepper] which I add to my drinks and the dogs food.

Bought mine form B n M think it was £2.99 organic raw coconut oil (solid) but solidifies very easily...I have been putting it on my face/arms/neck recently.its a bit oily at first but then soaks into the skin, it leaves skin so soft the next day. I use it as a lip balm and It seems to tighten my lips hmm so maybe it works as a firming cream I don't know (don't quote me)

I have been away for 4 days and didnt take my little surplus jar of c oil with me..I certainly noticed the difference with not using it.!

I've tried the it as a mouth wash but having difficulty keeping it there!

Also detracting from the beauty side...I have had a fungal nail infection for some time now (not treated it with anything as yet) but about 3 weeks ago started putting coconut oil on it after reading all about c oil...I must say I am sure it is starting to look better!

I moisturise face with it at night now. I had an allergic reaction from a hair product and my face was sore and dry so the only moisturiser I could put on it at the time was coconut oil, was so soothing so now that's what I use...

Spit it into kitchen paper then put in land fill bin. Or you could fill the cavities of an empty egg box like I do with fat from cooking.

disgruntled so where do you dispose of the "swish solution"?

I've been doing it and amazed at how clean my mouth feels afterwards. And I swear my teeth are whiter...

I used it as a conditioner this weekend. Apply liberally to dry hair before bed. Wash off with shampoo the next morning before washing and conditioning as usual. Put an old pillowcase on your pillow. smile

I use it on my dd eczema. Also if she picks up head lice from school, it gets rid instantly. It seems to suffocate them but with no harmful chemicals, plus it leaves her curly hair in beautiful condition.

It's also great for our 'lady bits'. It works as a lube but also for clearing up thrush. Take a dollop of solid coconut oil, mould it into a bullet, freeze for a while then use as a pessary. Use at the first sign of discomfort and it works like magic. Cheap and smells good.

Candelle just try not to laugh, or giggle or splutter.....!!! ????

Disgruntled Sat 15-Apr-17 22:21:54

Oh, not down the loo! I've recommended it to lots of friends who have all reported good results, no more gum pockets, no more fillings. I don't do it for 20 mins, just a couple, usually while I'm checking emails. I know one friend swishes while she's in the shower. I'm going to have to concentrate, to change the habit of spitting it down the loo!!!! One friend even said someone thought she'd had her teeth whitened.

Morgana Sat 15-Apr-17 19:21:48

Daughter uses it on baby's skin. Just a little and not every day
I love the smell!

Elrel Sat 15-Apr-17 17:38:32

Worth spending £2.99 in Aldi to try it out after such enthusiastic recommendations!

I had a really stubborn & painful anal fissure which refused to clear up. I found somewhere on the internet that coconut oil would cure it & sure enough, it did! What a relief!

Way back in the 60s, my sister and her husband used to use coconut oil for getting a good sun tan!

Juney64 Sat 15-Apr-17 14:32:13

I had a rash on one of my legs for months - tried everything including steroid cream and Aveena.

After three weeks of applying coconut oil the rash was gone. I now use it on my skin and hair. You don't need very much. A little goes a long way.

It seems there are different grades for different purposes. You can read more about these here if you're interested...

I buy mine from The Body Shop. I make the assumption that if it's from there - this grade is for the body haha. There are always Body Shop discount vouchers online.

SunRa Sat 15-Apr-17 11:09:47

Don't spit it down the loo - it solidifies and then joins the fat that's coagulating in the sewerage system which blocks the pipes!

Craftycat Sat 15-Apr-17 10:53:19

I wish I could use it but UGH!! Even the thought of the smell of it nauseates me. I would love to cook with it as I am on low carb diet but not a chance.
Mind you coconut is the ONLY thing I cannot stand at any price so I'm not doing too badly.

Blinko Sat 15-Apr-17 10:52:00

I have had a big jar in the cupboard, wondering how best to use it. Thanks to this thread, I have some ideas at least. I already use coconut oil spray for cooking. I am very interested in whooshing it round the gums for a healthy mouth, especially as Disgruntled's dentist is impressed. Way to go!

janeainsworth Sat 15-Apr-17 10:43:36

Candelle I'd stick with the mouthwash if I were you - that and cleaning your teeth effectively, ie with a toothbrush and some means of cleaning between your teeth - tepe brushes or dental floss.

Candelle Sat 15-Apr-17 10:38:25

Grannyknot, many thanks for your post. I am interested in trying this oil (think I have some lurking in the back of a cupboard but never used it).

Disgruntled, I just had a quick look on line and it seems that one needs to keep it in the mouth for 20 minutes for the purposes of oil pulling. Is this really easily done? I struggle with mouthwash after 60 seconds as it wants to be expelled!

How do you keep it from falling out - especially if one is doing other things whilst waiting for the 20 minutes to expire?

thatbags Sat 15-Apr-17 10:18:58

Apparently a dollop of it improves green tea.

Theoddbird Sat 15-Apr-17 10:17:12

I use it on my face. It is amazing when I get an eczema attack on my forehead (due to allergies) I bought the tub in Sainsburys...was where the olive oil etc was. Now heard it is cheaper in Aldis. Tub goes on for ever smile Oh and leaves skin so soft smile
