Wrinkly arms

Never mind bingo wings. What do you do with arms that ate wrinkly. I use a body butter every day but it doesn't make a lot of difference. I wonder if using serum that you'd use on your face would help. But that's quite expensive. Any ideas?

I have wrinkly arms. Just a recent thing . They are a result of losing a lot of weight to reverse diabetes. I usually use any cream to hand but think I may try coconut oil. Still I would rather have wrinkly arms than diabetes ?

Coconut oil is fantastic. You can get it in a jar at the supermarket near the health food section. You will need to put the jar in warm water for it to melt a bit then put about enough to cover a 20c piece into one hand and then rub it on your other arm right past the elbows and under. And then Vicky versa with the other arm. You have to wait a few minutes for it to sink it. I do it first after my shower and then put it on. By the time I have done my hair and a touch of make up it has gone into my arms. It take a great deal of the wrinkles away, maximum hydration. It does not cost a lot, here in Australia it is about $7 to $8 dollars so around 3 pound your currency roughly. It is just wonderful. I hope you can source it locally.

Never given it a thought, but guess I have that to look forward to. I don't look as good as I did when younger, but don't exoect to, most of my friends don't wear sleeveless, I do as it is not a problem yet, but when I do develop them I think I will still wear short sleeved tops and if people don't like to look at them they can look at my face because I cant hide that unless I wear a veil. Daisy I think you have a point about being overweight and with lovely skin, my sister has beautiful skin and braver worries about her weight, she dresses in lots of layers and always looks good. As you get older and lose weight I don't think the skin pings back like it used to. As Elizabeth Taylor said , as you get older, it's your figure or your face you choose.

Some weeks ago a very close friend asked me what did I consider to be my best physical point. My reply was 'my arms because despite my size I have quite slim arms'. She was surprised that I didnt say my skin because she thinks my skin is very good and without wrinkles. I am in my 70s but the only secret is I am very overweight. I have plans to lose about 3st in the coming months ao I expect that the loose skin will start appearing.

My Mum lived until she was 97 and had very wrinkly legs and arms. Because they were so dry and prone to sores I used to cream then twice a day with Menalind which is a cream professinals in the medical field use and it did improve the appearance of her limbs. So keep slapping on the creams and lotions regularly and you may be suprised.

There was a program a few weeks ago think it was called " SECRETS OF GROWING OLD" it showed a couple of chaps and some women..whilst it was stated you can become fitter with excersise and diet there was nothing in the world you can do about your skin sagging/wrinkling etc..apart from of course surgery.

No amount of cream/oils etc would make your skin less wrinkled..its just down to ageing..some people age better than others.I do think that creams help your skin stay moisturised and water keeps it hydrated.

grin mawb. Mr C came late in his mother's life, she was 65 when I met her first. She seemed very old mature to my 19 year old self. She had worked physicaly hard, had little money and of course clothes were ageing. I could never understand why she always wore long or three quarter length sleeves - I do now! If its hot the arms do come out and hang what anyone thinks, but as I am rarely overly warm I don't put people to that trauma too often.

This is what I have been doing wrong all these years!

Someone mentioned taking a supplement and I guess they meant collagen, which is ridiculously expensive! Just in case you're tempted to splash out, collagen and gelatin are the same substance chemically so you might as well take gelatin, which is sold for cooking and is cheap. It's a protein that the digestive process breaks down into the same amino acids no matter which name it's given. Collagen supplements are gelatin dressed up in fancy packaging and are derived from animal bones, connective tissue and skin i.e. the leavings from the meat industry.

Yes I have wrinkly arms and I moisturise them when I remember. However, I do wear short sleeved or sleeveless dresses in the summer. I agree with what has already been said - people are far too bothered thinking about how they look to worry about me.

Corncob Sat 20-May-17 14:10:19

Why worry. We can't stay looking young for ever. There is no such thing as a cream that will remove wrinkles from arms hands face whatever. Best thing is not to expose yourself to strong sunshine, drink plenty of water and just accept these lines and wrinkles are all part of being a gran.

I bruise easily now so have bruised, wrinkly arms. Horrible.

Shizam were they M&S mirrors? I have had some unpleasant views in M&S fitting rooms! As I bend over to try on trousers I get a view of my big behind.

wellingtonpie Sat 20-May-17 08:48:10

Yep, I don't think you should look in them when you're naked. ?

Shizam Fri 19-May-17 21:45:42

Well I've just had the unedifying experience of seeing my backside in a three-way mirror. Oh my flipping lots of expletives etc. It was horrid. Haven't seen it for quite a while. NO ONE else is ever clapping eyes on that. Wish it was fat. Instead it's just a wrinkly sad old arse!

wellingtonpie Fri 19-May-17 19:41:04

I'm so glad I'm not alone in musing over wrinkly arms. Ah well. Old age doesn't come alone. I'm very lucky that that is all I have to worry about at the moment. Thank you all for your input. X

Lewlew Fri 19-May-17 18:51:24

If you want to feel young again, lay flat on your back and hold a hand mirror over your face... gravity very nicely gives you back some years to reminisce over. Want to know what's coming? Put that hand mirror flat on a table and stand over it, look down and watch gravity read your fortune. (Saw this on the Golden Girls many years ago, good ol' Blanche).

Wobbly bits and loose skin are nature's way of taking us out of the reproductive race (men, too), unless you are blessed with great genes. It's a youth-obsessed society and the beauty industry today that wants you to be dissatisfied.

Once I've done the above, I realise I am very happy with what I have. My real age is in my head. Glad I can still see, hear, and am walking talking and toilet-trained and so can live with my post-menopause matronly shape. The alternatives are grim, unless you can affort a lot of plastic surgery. But even Joan Collins has to cover her arms. grin

Willow500 Fri 19-May-17 18:36:00

If I bend forward it looks like the skin is trying to run off my hands shock I lost a lot of weight a few years ago and as I've always had a 'good arm' as my mother used to put it (aka heavy) the skin is now just too big! Not a lot we can do about it - I just accept that I have to wear long sleeves or lacy ones. There are worse things we could have.

GrandmaMoira Fri 19-May-17 16:31:18

My arms aren't particularly wrinkly but the bingo wings are terrible, especially since I lost weight. It's suggested we cover the arms but I can't bear this in hot weather. Also, though I have generally thin arms I'm restricted in what I can buy as sleeves are often too tight at the top now. I used to have the opposite problem!

Esspee Fri 19-May-17 15:56:41

Easiest way to get rid of the wrinkles is to expand. I achieve this by eating lots of delicious food. Highly recommended!

Victoria08 Fri 19-May-17 15:34:42

It's definitely an age thing. I am very slim with not a lot of flesh on my arms, and they have become wrinkly too.

I am conscious of them when I wear sleeveless tops, but can't bring myself to cover up in hot weather as I think any skin looks a little better with a light tan.
Also it's too hot if you go abroad on holiday.

I use Boots No.7 body serum on legs and arms, but doubt if the wrinkles can be reversed.

Daddima Fri 19-May-17 14:47:25

I'm liking the Aveeno stuff ( 25% off in Boots just now!)

grandMattie Fri 19-May-17 14:19:40

If only it was just my arms!
I look at my stomach and want to cry - ME! who was thin as a rake until menopause/AD took over...
Ah well, I don't really care - just sad. I'll go with you Coco51.
Old age is not for sissies - but try not to let it take you over.

shysal Fri 19-May-17 13:59:11

I exercise with weights but am still plump and wrinkly, so you can't win! If the weather is hot I bare my arms around home, but for out and about I choose sleeves which end just above the elbow. If I can't find what I want I buy long sleeves and shorten them. I have a few Joules tops with a curved back hem, which are a good fit on me, to which I have done this.

We are all different. Celebrate what makes you you and s_d what anyone else thinks.
