Has anybody tried Floris soaps? Are they worth the money? I mean really-fabulous-nice-smelling etc ?

morningdew Just checked out the goats milk website, but sadly international shipping isn't straightforward sad

This from their website,

"DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?

Due to continued problems with international orders disappearing, we no longer ship directly to international addresses. If you would like to purchase from Goat Milk Stuff, you will need to sign up with a service (one example is myus.com) that will give you a United States address that we can ship your order to. We guarantee your package to your U.S. shipping address. We are not responsible for the package after that and will not reimburse you if it is not received."

Floris Edwardian Bouquet soap is lovely. It's not the cheapest, but it lasts for ages.
It doesn't lose the fragrance if kept in storage for a while either. I buy it in 'three packs' and store the 'spares' in my wardrobe, they're still highly fragranced after months in there!

harrysgran I used to love those lemon soaps too. Google Bronnley & you'll get the stockists. They were made at Brackley until 2012 & that is nearish to Brinkley so you weren't far out.

Yardley's Freesia was my absolute favourite when I was a teenager just starting work and earning money. I love actual Freesia flowers too but won't buy them any more as they smell of absolutely nothing (sorry to go a bit off thread but the lack of fragrance in all fresh flowers nowadays drives me mad)

I was once bought some Floris soaps many years ago by a posh friend...who informed me that these are the soaps used by the Royal family. How she knew or even if it was true I don"t know. I enjoyed using them and appreciated them but then went back to using Pears or Imperial Leather which was my regular soap. However I have a liking for nice soap which is"nt always in my budget and these are the gifts I tend to receive. My favourite ones come from a Scottish company based on the isle of Arran...beautiful soap...try to make it last. Various outlets selling this throughout the UK. They also have the other usual toiletries and perfumes to compliment the soaps.

I haven't tried Floris soap but will look out for it. I love scented soaps.

As an aside, I was in Spain last week visiting my DS, DIL and GS. It was a lovely week but quite harrowing for health reasons. It was my BD while I was there. One of my other DSs and DIL knew I'd be exhausted and had left a gift bag at my house for when I got home. Rather than just call to say thank you, for a bit of fun, I sent the following...

So, the ?? of all baths is scheduled for tonight. I have a problem. Do I opt for the Vanilla Musk candle or the 'With Love' Yankee candle... probably the latter or maybe even both! That, of course, leaves the dilemma of the tea lights and the beautiful little glass tea light holder with the imprinted butterfly which could easily be mistaken for a heart. Perhaps I could float the tealights on the Radox 'Feel Blissful with Calendula and Rose' filled bath water. However, perhaps the floating candles would clash with the Mandara Spa soap petals. Don't want any of that age old bath product clashing thing happening.

Now that I'm reaching the bit where I actually get into the bath, what do I drink; the Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Pinot Rose or the Nescafé Dolce Gusto - again, perhaps both. I must say though that my inclination is the former as the Rose would compliment the Lindor Irresistibly Smooth chocolate bar. Perhaps I'll save the Dolce Gusto coffee for later to have with the Ferrero Rocher - 'the golden experience' as so fondly described on the pack.

I have a touch of the vapours at the idea of an all over scrub with my cerise pink 'Bath Lily by Sainsbury's' body buffer with the 'lick and stick' plastic holder. Of course, this leaves the butter dilemma. Does one use the 'Mandara Spa Body Butter' before the 'Mandara Spa Hand Butter' - or vice-versa. Either way, I suspect a whole lot of slipping will be going on! I could no doubt be aptly described as 'butter fingers' following the use of these products.

The part I'm really anticipating is putting on my perfectly sized Tu nightwear with 63% polyester, 33% Viscose and 4% Spandex Jersey - a perfect combination for comfort. This particular type of nightgown / day dress was exactly what I was looking for during my pre-Spain shopping expedition. One has noted that one would be advised to invite Mrs P to accompany me, should a further pre-Spain shopping expedition arise in the future.

When my wonderful bathing experience is over, I can hardly contain my excitement knowing that I, June, will be in a position to retrieve my newly charged phone from my car following my lengthy bathing experience and whilst wearing my new Tu nightgown / day dress. My brand new, 'Mega Fast In-Car Juice-Booster' will have done its job. This may be one excitement too far but I shall do my best to retain my composure. ?

Dxxx and Axxxxx... many, many thanks for your beautiful presents. I thoroughly enjoyed opening them and I'm genuinely looking forward to having a lovely bath later. Also thanks for the beautiful flowers.

Love you both very much. It's good to be home ? XX.

Forgot to add...Arran Aromatics is the company name.

annsixty Fri 30-Jun-17 11:31:38

Arran soaps and gels are indeed lovely.
My favorite is After The Rain

dancingnana1 Fri 30-Jun-17 11:55:48

Has anyone tried Caurnie soaps ? They come in rose, lavender, lemon grass and much more. They are natural soaps.Caurnie soaps are hand made in kirkintilloch in Scotland. They even do a soap which is good for sorisis. I am not advertising these soaps but just saying how good they are. I have been using them for years.

Greyduster Fri 30-Jun-17 12:11:44

To be honest I rarely use soap these days - I use shower gel and Simple facial wash - but DD bought me a collection of bits and pieces from Lush at Christmas, including some 'Outback Mate' ? soap. It is eucalyptus, peppermint and lemon grass. It is currently scenting my underwear drawer. Smells lovely. I really should use it.

goldengirl Fri 30-Jun-17 12:19:54

I rarely use soaps, preferring shower gels, but when I do I love Imperial Leather. However it's a friend's birthday soon and I think Floris soap might be the ideal present. So thanks for that.

grandMattie Fri 30-Jun-17 12:32:01

Aren't you all lucky!
I am so sensitive to all perfumes and the detergent in soaps/bath oils etc., that the only thing I can use is special cream - for washing. The detergent for washing machine is another problem, but I have found one which suits.
Any strong smells make me feel sick - I once nearly left church because the aftershave of a bloke 6 rows back was so loud!

sarahellenwhitney Fri 30-Jun-17 12:44:43

My bosses wife, in my first job with a pittance wage, would glide through our department leaving long after she had gone her signature Chanel No 5.
It was my ambition that one day I too would wear No5.
I married early, had my children and bought my perfumes from the lady who would call at the door. Not No 5.
Only when my children went to college was I free to pursue a career that paid well.
On the continent when on business I went into a perfumery
and achieved my ambition. To say I was like a kid in a sweet shop is an understatement
Chanel No 5 holds many memories and although I can no longer indulge in this to the extent I did in my younger days my family are never at a loss to know what to buy for my birthday.

JanaNana Fri 30-Jun-17 12:53:40

annsixty.......After the Rain is my favourite of all. They did one called Nutmeg Embers which someone bought me ..think that one was a limited edition ...I kept that in my underwear drawer for ages before giving in and using it. All their soaps though are delicious fragrances.

kathyd Fri 30-Jun-17 13:23:10

For those in France Marius Fabre liquid soaps are the best I have ever used. They are the fail safe gift for visits to the UK.

grannyinmypocket Fri 30-Jun-17 13:48:56

My daughter bought me some soaps from Lush, they smell quite strong, and make a nice smell in the bathroom

winifred01 Fri 30-Jun-17 13:55:12

Love Roger and Galley soap sandalwood but it is difficult to find these days.

Doversole Fri 30-Jun-17 15:38:34

Floris: my husband received as s gift a Floris shaving soap in a perfect wooden dish. If the smell of that was anything to go by, they make gorgeous soaps.

Nicest soap I've ever had was a tablet of Atkins Eau de Cologne soap in a posh hotel in Rome - it smelt wonderful and lasted ages, and was made in England, but oddly its not a brand I've seen for sale in the U.K.

Doversole Fri 30-Jun-17 15:43:48

Sorry, that should have been Atkinsons eau de cologne soap, not Atkins. I just looked it up online and see that Selfridges and House of Fraser have it, so now I know !

Peaseblossom Fri 30-Jun-17 15:44:36

I hate bars of soap as they make the sink/bath messy, and they go soggy underneath. I always use liquid soap. So if I ever get any they are given to charity shops.

Peaseblossom Fri 30-Jun-17 15:52:34

winifred01 you can get it from fragrance direct for £6.00 for 100 grams.

ginny Fri 30-Jun-17 16:35:35

Just seen this thread and coincidentally, whilst clearing out a drawer this morning, I found a box of 3 Floris soaps. Maybe I could auction them as they are so coveted. ?

Northernlass Fri 30-Jun-17 16:44:40

Some Floris soaps are on sale on their website - don't know p&p costs though.

www.florislondon.com/en_gbp/sale

I find Jo Malone stuff not so good and hideously expensive - can't help thinking you're paying for the name as much as anything.

Rosiebee Fri 30-Jun-17 16:47:17

When on holiday in South Africa, one of the hotels had toiletries from L'Occitane - Lemon Verbena. Heavenly smell but couldn't justify the cost back home.Recently though I bought a cosmetic bag from a garden centre, filled with samples of the soap, body lotion, shower gel etc, all nestled in tissue paper . I can't use them as I have to stick to Sanex and similar products but every now and then I unzip the bag for a waft of the delicious fragrance.smile

Northernlass Fri 30-Jun-17 16:48:26
