Birkenstock sandals are almost de rigeur, although not for those handling chisels, which lets me off the hook!

Heavy shoes, long trousers and long sleeved shirt are my work clothes. Engineering workshop. Even though I don't do any production work I still pick up metal swarf - found a bit in the bed yesterday! Nothing loose.

I am well aware that I live in London and anything goes but I saw a young girl, quite overweight wearing a top and just a pair of knickers which were anything but covered. Am I showing my age by saying even in this heat it is not appropriate wearing that when out shopping?

Sounds ideal, ph. I have some harem-type PJ trousers. I'd wear them (the style, not the PJ pants) at other times too except that I'm inclined to trip over on the extra bagginess. There's enough Baggs already!

I agree about flared trousers feeling cool - I'm wearing some now. I've got a pattern and have made a few pairs, from viscose which is a cool fabric. Elastic waistband, very simple to make.
But I prefer a long skirt made from a similar fabric. I had 3 of those, from ?BHS ages ago but only one now, other 2 wore out.

TriciaF BHS is now back in business on line only. Not a great selection but maybe if they get some money together it may improve and get back to old times.

Oh!! Parsons - just worked it out - very funny. I bought myself a long skirt in Sainsburys last week - loved wearing it on Saturday with a vest type top (tucked in 'cos waist gathered and bulky) Felt so cool and happy with my new outfit THEN I caught sight of a sideways view of myself and I looked HUGE. Took it off and hung in back of wardrobe. Vanity over coolness I guess?

Might have looked better with a floaty, longer top perhaps DanniRae?
