Thanks Ana - I will get it out of the wardrobe and try again with your solution! grin

Might have looked better with a floaty, longer top perhaps DanniRae?

Oh!! Parsons - just worked it out - very funny. I bought myself a long skirt in Sainsburys last week - loved wearing it on Saturday with a vest type top (tucked in 'cos waist gathered and bulky) Felt so cool and happy with my new outfit THEN I caught sight of a sideways view of myself and I looked HUGE. Took it off and hung in back of wardrobe. Vanity over coolness I guess?

Phoenix do you think you have started a run on these harem pants from Lidl and even as we speak type, there are Gransnetters demanding to see the Manager because they are out of stock or fighting over the last pair. Will we see headlines in The Daily Mail ( not the sainted Guardian ) 'Phew! It's a scorcher....Grans in Meltdown in Lidls!!! '

Nicholas, Charleygirl, pronounced "knickerless" blush

Ana Sun 09-Jul-17 22:27:49

Parsons. And when he used to be on Sale of the Century and they gave his full name the phrase 'shouldn't climb trees' always came into my head...grin

Charleygirl Sun 09-Jul-17 22:27:00

I have never heard of Parsons- maybe I do not get out enough and have led a very sheltered life!

phoenix Sun 09-Jul-17 22:24:22

Ana commando or Parsons? (He's very good for his age, isn't he, even if Just a minute is nowhere as good as I'm sorry I haven't a clue. I think Jack Dee is doing quite well, although of course there was only one Humph)

Sorry, I digressed, as you were!

Ana Sun 09-Jul-17 20:58:22

We call it that as well! grin

phoenix Sun 09-Jul-17 20:55:29

I actually find going Parsons a bit uncomfortable lately, it's the thighs that make the problem.

rosesarered Sun 09-Jul-17 20:36:56

TriciaF ! shock ......you go commando? who dares, wins!

TriciaF Sun 09-Jul-17 20:32:15

Yes but - you can get a nice breeze up there, especially without underwear - not saying I go without mindblush

phoenix Sun 09-Jul-17 19:02:30

Ah but skirts bring their own problems, hence me asking about underwear on another thread!

Charleygirl Sun 09-Jul-17 18:06:13

TriciaF BHS is now back in business on line only. Not a great selection but maybe if they get some money together it may improve and get back to old times.

TriciaF Sun 09-Jul-17 17:54:27

I agree about flared trousers feeling cool - I'm wearing some now. I've got a pattern and have made a few pairs, from viscose which is a cool fabric. Elastic waistband, very simple to make.
But I prefer a long skirt made from a similar fabric. I had 3 of those, from ?BHS ages ago but only one now, other 2 wore out.

phoenix Sun 09-Jul-17 17:34:07

Charleygirl totally agree with you!

On that subject, am I alone in thinking that it is those who really shouldn't, who tend to expose the most flesh?

Now, before I get blasted, yes, of course there is the "good on them for not giving a flying fig for how they look, or other people's opinions" school of thought, but surely the other camp can have their say?

Tin helmet time, perhaps!

Baggs Sun 09-Jul-17 16:43:04

Sounds ideal, ph. I have some harem-type PJ trousers. I'd wear them (the style, not the PJ pants) at other times too except that I'm inclined to trip over on the extra bagginess. There's enough Baggs already!

charley, I tend to agree that a top plus knickers not quite covered is... well... a yuck look for anyone out of nappies.

Charleygirl Sun 09-Jul-17 16:36:16

I am well aware that I live in London and anything goes but I saw a young girl, quite overweight wearing a top and just a pair of knickers which were anything but covered. Am I showing my age by saying even in this heat it is not appropriate wearing that when out shopping?

Tizliz Sun 09-Jul-17 16:34:52

Heavy shoes, long trousers and long sleeved shirt are my work clothes. Engineering workshop. Even though I don't do any production work I still pick up metal swarf - found a bit in the bed yesterday! Nothing loose.

phoenix Sun 09-Jul-17 16:12:27

roses it's a very odd sort of office, especially as it's only me and himself!

Birkenstock sandals are almost de rigeur, although not for those handling chisels, which lets me off the hook!

rosesarered Sun 09-Jul-17 16:02:24

Sorry.....thought for some reason ( probably because I more or less live in the garden)grin that it was a hot weather outdoors solution, but am sure you looked great, how nice not to have an office dress code, especially in Summer.?

phoenix Sun 09-Jul-17 15:54:13

I actually wore this to work! blush But fortunately the dress code at work is non existent grin

Sadly, I think my beloved Mr P is beyond perking up sad

annodomini Sun 09-Jul-17 15:35:40

Oh dear, it's too late for me to get to Lidl today!

rosesarered Sun 09-Jul-17 15:30:45

Watch out Phoenix. Sheikh Bunged-It-in will be after you...wink for his harem.
Stay away from sand and camels.

Sounds a good look for a hot day around the garden though, and may perk up Mr P ( as a bonus )grin

phoenix Sun 09-Jul-17 14:51:06

To the "what to wear in hot weather" problem grin!

I bought a pair of what were described as "harem" pants/trousers in Lidl, they are in a lightweight fabric, (probably won't be long lasting, but at under £5......)

Anyway, being a bit distracted, I didn't realise I had picked up a pack that were a size too big.

Result! Drawstring waist, so you can stop them falling down, loads of loose fabric around the parts where it makes a difference blush and worn with one of Mr P's white shirts (sleeves rolled up) that I stole borrowed, it looked ok, and the general looseness really helps the air circulate, and I feel much more comfortable!

Well painted toenails and some interesting earrings, and it's not actually a bad look!
