M&S shock!

This has happened to me twice in the last year or so in M & S. I love black jeans. I popped in for a pair, the same ones that I usually buy, picked them up and took them to the counter. They were not in the sale or on a reduced rack. The assistant rang them up and she said 'that's £1.49 please'. I looked at her in amazement and she said 'that's what it says'. Then about 6 months later I went to a different M& S and the same thing happened with a pair of trousers, this time the label said £35, once again not on a reduced rack or anything and there was no sale on, and it came up as £3.49 which is what I was charged.

I have never in my life seen such price drops but my local M&S is small. I think that they are concentrating more on the food side. After reading some of the bargains picked up on line here I must visit my local. My problem in a store and on line is that the bargains are at either end of the spectrum, size 8 or 20.

I agree Charleygirl that the sale stuff is either small or large sizes. Like I said my bargains weren't in the sale, it just seems to be random things that occasionally come up at an extremely low price. Mine were size 14.

Yesterday I found a lovely pair of winceyette pyjamas with little pandas on them for £4.99 in S&M and my 14 year old niece has turned her nose up ! Apparently she prefers Justin Timberlake on her pj's !

Since I retired early I have virtually given up buying clothes. On a recent and unprecedented trip up to London to join my daughter after work she took me to her high end shops. We also went to her H and M which is only has the expensive stuff. The DD picked an absolutely gorgeous long embroidered skirt which was £80 but half price in the sale. I still couldn't afford it but tried it on to please her and then put it back on the rack. She said, 'They are often discounted further on the till, and took it to the counter where to my amazement, it was 75 per cent off. What a bargain! I wore it to to my DD's engagement party and was complimented all night.

I was in M&S 2 weeks ago and saw a winter skirt for £9 I loved it, the lady at the till said i I had only a limited time to return it as it was sale ( and hopefully I won,t need it yet), but for the price I can't see a problem, worth a rummage!

I am lucky to have an M&S Outlet store in my nearby Town. 2 years ago I bought a pair of knee length boots for £35, should have been nearer £100, they weren't in any sale. Great buy I wear them a lot in the winter.

I also have a large M&S a little bit further away but near my DD so I often pop in. Being a "larger lady" I struggle with seeing all the bargains in sizes 8/10/12 but little in larger sizes although there are bargains to be had. I think it's a case "right place, right time". I've shopped in M&S for clothes for over 40 years, I'm only 62

online.....and found that Amazon are now selling them. ..plus ebay of course.

A friend of mine always seems to be on the spot when M & S do their amazing final reductions, and ends up with armsful of stuff for a tenner. I bet she's been this weekend.... I'll call in today, but there'll just be the unwanted dregs left in sizes 6 and 26, as per usual.

They are closing here, again, at the end of September and we all hoped they would have a big sale. Unfortunately they are not, I asked a member of staff on Friday and she told me they are shipping everything back to the UK. Boo they could at least have given us a bit of a bonus, by the way the shop here has been busy since opening and has done well financially.

Not M & S, but Tesco for my best bargain: an unpriced jersey top from their Sale rail came up as 4p at the till. As neither the cashier nor I believed this amazing price she checked with a supervisor who confirmed that it was indeed 4p - unbelievable!

I still remain loyal to M & S despite the fact that I think some of their stuff is dire. Very annoying when you pay top price for something that's reduced a few weeks later. Went in the other day and the first thing that hit me was all the 'new season' frilly tops with complicated sleeves which will no doubt not sell and all be drastically reduced. Nevertheless I got a bargain skirt for £2.59 and some jeans for £5.99. The fact there's SO much in the sales just goes to show they need to re-think their styles. And if they didnt overprice their clothes so much in the first place they wouldn't end up with so much unsold stuff.

I notice that Amazon is selling some ex M&S clothes very cheaply but stating that they have cut the M&S labels off.

I waded through pages and pages but the only items I fancied were a couple of bras at very low prices. One or two were as low as £4.99.

Some of the dresses, to me, looked horrendous-fine if one was standing at a street corner looking for custom but zilch else.

I am tempted to ask how you know what to wear on a street corner Charleygirl

Just back from the M&S outlet. I only went in to get "Dine in for two".
1 bra, 3 pairs of very nice knickers (not my usual big pants) and a pair of trousers purchased. Initially came up as subtotal £59, I paid £8. A very successful sortie.
IF DH hadn't been getting so impatient, I'm sure I would have found more!

Ah yes Kings Cross Charleygirl don't think it's changed much. Union Street Plymouth was always an education.

Deedaa It is now totally different- there are so many very smart flats now- and so expensive the cost would take your breath away. Even the station has smartened up considerably.
