Does anyone still wear heels?

I've found three pairs of very dusty but beautiful high heel shoes in the back of my wardrobe. These days I either wear comfy trainers or biker boots. Even on an evening out I'll rather wear (warm) boots with a chunky very low heel. Will I ever wear these heels again? I'm not sure I want to resign myself to never wearing heels again. It feels like giving up on being young...

I always wore heels, all the time, and could wear them for work (teaching - lots of walking!) day after day. These days I look at high-heeled shoes and sigh, knowing that I can no longer wear them.

I've recently been on a cruise, where I managed to fall off a pair of FLAT sandals. In public, of course, and while carrying a tray of food. There is no way I'd manage to keep upright on heels! Excruciating pain when I try these days anyway. However, I still possess several pairs of lovely shoes which I am getting rid of very, very slowly.

These days it's Skechers and Birkenstocks!

I recently brought into the light my Kurt Geiger three inch heels .I had been invited to a close friend's son's wedding which was to be a 'posh'do.The bride was the daughter of a local celebrity so felt my comfy flats would not 'fit in' with the occasion.
These KG's are now back in their own space until the next right moment.. Comfort, at my age, comes first.

No, not really. I used to love highish stilettos in my youth but now, (what with the bunions and all!) I usually wear trousers and flatties. On the rare occasions when I wear a skirt or dress I wear court shoes with a low chunky heel, but after an hour or two they are very painful!!

I bought a pair of heels from a charity shop on my way home from the beautician last week. Now I need a suitable party ...

For those saying that wearing high heeled shoes is bad for posture -- how do men manage to stand up straight? Genuine question.

I keep them for occasions which are few and far between. Had to wear a pair for a wedding in August, but had a pair of gold slipperettes in my handbag in case!! Otherwise its trainers and flats all the way!

At every possible opportunity, I love my heels and some of them are very high. I think I am fortunate to be one of those people who can really 'wear; them. Some people look so awkward in them that I feel sorry for them. I can't imagine giving them up - ever.

Only wear low heels if I wear a dress, which isnt often. Comfy in Skechers trainers, I love them, or sandals in the summer, and boots and "sensible" shoes in the winter.

I wish I could still wear heels. I have arthritis in my big toes and they don’t bend anymore. There are so many pretty heels around at the moment and I look at them wistfully .

I can't even wear shoes - flat or otherwise. I have to wear mules as the back of the inside heel hurts my heel and is very painful. Heaven only knows what I would do if I had to really dress up and couldn't wear trousers.

I can't walk in totally flat shoes like flip flops so have to have at least a small heel. Not sure if that's due to posture or just that I've always worn small heels.
Since becoming a granny I am more often in trousers or jeans than a skirt so now wear lower than I used to.

Try wearing your heels at home sometimes. I do, find it makes me feel more cheerful when I am feeling old and blue.

Used to wear heels all the time, sadly I can no longer wear them. I have tramped all over London in heels, worked as a waitress & barmaid. Sadly these days it's trainers or flat shoes/boots.

They are good for posture, provided you wear a small heel.
I don’tuse heels often but do quite enjoy doing so if I don’t have to walk to much. I feel much more elegant in them.

I’m with you Nonnie. I LOVE my heels.

I last wore heels to my daughter's wedding five years ago. Since then I've developed foot problems so I don't expect to wear them again. I hate parting with them though. They cost a bomb and were only worn for one day.

Only wear heels for weddings these days.Otherwise either flats or small heels, much more comfortable.
The high heels of ‘yesteryear’ certainly were lovely to look at though.

Only on special occasions when you need to dress up but I’ve still got 10 pairs I always wear heels to Ascot ladies day but take flats to change into later in day. My calves get a good workout but every other day I wear flats and try and get pretty ones.

I can beat that, inishowen. I bought some gorgeous 5" heels for my daughter's wedding. They cost a bomb and I only wore them for one hour, then the back up 3" heels came out.

I still love those lovely shoes and don't want to get rid of them. sad I might take up grandtanteJE65's idea and wear them round the house. smile

I've got just one pair of fancy heels which I got in a sale a few years ago (they are unmatched - the right is a 3 while the left is a 2 1/2. They were very cheap as no-one else wanted them and are so comfy) - I think I've worn them twice.
I may never wear them again as my now almost matching pair of bunions would probably worsen if I did.
It's mostly flattish walking shoes for me these days.

minxie Fri 10-Nov-17 16:12:34

I remember saying I would never ever go into flats as they make me feel short and fat. I wear them a lot now and 2” heels. I to have some cracking stilettos, I don’t know If I will wear them again but I cannot throw them out just in case

I last wore heels at my twin Granddaughters 18th last year. I had bought a gorgeous black and silver dress and it needed heels.
Strappy leather ones , with ankle strap. Wore them all night and was even dragged up to dance with the Kids.
Had a great night and felt young again and fabulous.
Amazing what an heel can do!!!!
You'll have to drag me kicking and screaming into that Old Age malarky.

USed to always wear heels in 60’s and 70’s... then kids came along and 3 prolapsed discs in my lower back. I now settle for daily comfort...pumps in summer... trainers for walking distance... and long and shirt boots in winter and autumn!! I once walked into my doctors surgery for some problem ...she saw my heels (1.5 inches) and gave me an very long lecture on heels and bad backs. Bit worn more than inch heel since!

starbird Fri 10-Nov-17 19:00:33

A lot of my line dancing class wear heels that have a strap around the ankle - they look so feminine I wiuld lovd to have a pair but so far have failed to find any that fit my size 8 extra wide feet!

SallyDapp Fri 10-Nov-17 19:20:45

Wear nothing but. I'm in a wheelchair now so don't see the point of wasting not being able to walk on boring shoes. But I do wear Irregular Choice shoes, and quite often have to fend off comments relating to being in a wheelchair and having the audacity to wear heels, usually from teenage girls. Funny world isn't it!
