Bra Straps!

A few of us had a discussion the other day about how our bra straps are always falling off our shoulders - sometimes it can be just minutes after we've put them on! Very annoying! Anybody have the same problem? Our shoulders haven't changed, so what causes it?

Grandmama what a brilliant idea! I have frequently cut off the hanger loops that many tops come with. From this very minute, the next time I buy one like this, I will try your way.

Whenever I buy a new top I measure a length of hem binding (not bias binding) slightly longer than the shoulder seam. One end is stitched to the shoulder/sleeve seam and on the other end is a press stud. On the neck seam is the other half of the press stud. The length of tape runs along the shoulder seam under the bra/camisole straps and press studs to the neck seam. If the garment is raglan, then the tape is twice the length of the shoulder seam and is not fixed to the top of the sleeve seam but loops back to the neck edge. So no strap slipping. smile

I tightened the elastic in my straps a couple of evenings ago after reading this thread. Nothing has slipped since!

But I do need new bras, as the elastic is going all round. Perhaps we don't buy them enough, and perhaps we ought to wash them by hand really. (I wash them in the machine, albeit on a very gentle cycle)

Thanks Brea, those look promising. My left shoulder had surgery 12 years ago and last year I fractured it, so it slopes a bit more than the right shoulder, though that's a bit slippery too.

My left strap falls down as left leg slightly shorter than right. Spend a lot of time hitching .

I find these help solve the problem www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Pcs-Soft-Silicone-Bra-Strap-Cushions-Pain-Relief-Non-slip-Holder-Shoulder-Pads/253312873946?hash=item3afa9fb5da:m:mIuSmGA5kBpO_yh4PvZMYbg

That's a good idea, Lewie. Thanks.

Ahhh, Baubles, I floowed your link to the racer bras, and well, my knee caps would have fitted nicely into the bra cups. How tiny were they. Oh to have tiny boobs.

jessycake Tue 20-Feb-18 06:48:07

I have this problem with bras and trousers . I think my problem is large saggy boobs and a flat arse ?

Aww thanks ladies, it's nice to know I'm not alone! And Overthehills your comments made me laugh out loud! I too went for a bra fitting about 6 months ago and bought a couple that were really comfortable. Perhaps I've changed shape since then (my weight does fluctuate with the seasons). Crossover back sounds the way to go for everyday wear. I wear the comfort bras at home but I'm slightly too 'booby' to wear them for work/going out, and need more support. Your helpful comments about style (ie straps being too far apart) will make me look at those factors when I buy my next bra. Thanks all for your support - you're like a good bra!

According to the tips on here my bras are too big and too small! And after having them fitted! And I’ve got the shoulder grooves!! There is obviously no hope for me!

Jalima1108 Mon 19-Feb-18 21:57:00

and if you bend down to pick something up it goes flying forwards and gets in a twist.

What's the answer? hmm

MissAdventure Mon 19-Feb-18 21:52:32

A long handled bag worn crossways almost saws my neck through! (Quasimodo?)

Jalima1108 Mon 19-Feb-18 21:48:10

left shoulder!

Jalima1108 Mon 19-Feb-18 21:47:59

I have carried a bag on my left should since the age of 11 (it was a satchel in those days) so I could be lop-sided now as my bra strap always comes off my left shoulder even when it has been tightened.
Nowadays I tend to wear a cross-body bag, but it's too late for the bra strap. hmm

Rarely have a problem with bra straps, which is surprising as I have narrow shoulders, but cannot keep a cardigan, coat or jacket on both shoulders at once unless I do them up and as for handbags..............

Coolgran65 Mon 19-Feb-18 20:58:35

I bought a pair of silicone bra-strap-pads that slip over the straps and they don't move. However they are not discreet so only work under a sweater etc and not under anything fine strapped.

Also, they were about £8.

carol58 Mon 19-Feb-18 18:29:49

Oo some great tips there ladies! I have a different problem in that one shoulder of sleeveless tops always bunches in towards my neck. (I'm a strange shape due to surgery) but the little loops attached with studs or safety pins might hold the shoulders of the top in the right place if connected to the bra strap! Hurray, you might have given me a solution after years of problems....thank you! Don't you just love GN? ??? BTW the underband should hold the weight of your breasts, so if you've got grooves in your shoulders, chances are your band size is too big....

I'm with Hazel too, I do have pretty bras too but for everyday, comfortable stretchy pull on bras are a must, no shoulder straps falling offgrin

GrannyParker Mon 19-Feb-18 17:29:22

Oh yes, the curse of slipping straps, awful, I always blame the straps but as it happens with any straps it must be my shoulders. Blooming nuisance whatever the cause.

HannahLoisLuke Mon 19-Feb-18 15:55:13

Hazel, I also wear the stretchy boneless pull on bras. Blissfully comfortable and no slipping straps. Don't think they're any good for ladies with big boobs though.

Snowedunder Mon 19-Feb-18 15:39:20

I was told by a bra fitter that if your strap(s) falls down then your back size is too small. The back is too tight against your body so the straps are not being used to hold the bra in place. Most people have one boob bigger than the other so the strap will often fall down on the side too.

ReadyMeals Mon 19-Feb-18 15:15:09

Straps are usually designed too far apart, because some designer thinks they look "prettier" like that. On all my bras I unpick where the strap is attached at the front and move it nearer the middle. I think the mistake a lot of manufacters make is not realising that our bones don't get further apart as we put on weight or get larger breasts. The straps need to be exactly the same distance apart for every woman.

sharonarnott Mon 19-Feb-18 15:10:28

Not having that problem at the moment. I've got so many fat bits crammed in that it is all tight straps included so nothing moves! blush

DanniRae Mon 19-Feb-18 15:06:26

My left shoulder strap is always falling down - drives me mad. I think the person who said lacy, under wired bras have straps further apart is right. I can' be wearing the wrong size because the right side bra strap never falls down!!
