I had a turning point when out shopping for a new bra yesterday. A very nice lady in M&S seemed to be able to detect my dilemma and swooped in to help me! Not being a very well endowed lady I have always sought bras with a bit of oomph, and always wired (never sure why!) Yet recently I have had real problems with the wires riding up all the time, uncomfortable and unsightly to say the least. I tried on a beautifully soft unwired one and WOW what a difference! My life was immediately transformed - I unashamedly chose comfort over sexy styling, so comfortable I bought two - well at least ones black and looks a bit more alluring! Any thoughts ladies?
I love triumph bra and knicker sets...all colours and they are wired...it gives me a nice shape and i do not jiggle when i walk. Used to wear the unwired M& S t shirt bra but as i have aged i have upped the support and it makes a big difference with the look of your clothes. Always put bras in a holder in the washing machine...always!
I went through my bras around a year ago when I needed a scan - advised to remove wired bras- and I found every single one of them is underwired. I'm fairly comfortable with them and have had no problems with the wires coming out - I put them into laundry bags so maybe this stops the damage as they're going through the wash? I like the 't-shirt' type as they don't show bumpy seams through my tops.
definately wired for me and padded too even though i'm a 40E. i buy mine from asda - such pretty ones. unfortunately i've had to stop buying them as i can't close my bra drawer!
Wired, usually for me, I always wash my bras by hand so no washing machine problems. I have bought a comfort bra for air travel to avoid the scanner problem. I bought a couple of non wired bras in the sales after Christmas. Turns out they are nursing bras! They are quite comfy.?
Wired every time- I haven't worn a non-wired bra since I was a young teenager. 36C so reasonably well endowed. I like a balconette T-shirt bra for everyday & some lacy pretty ones for 'best'.
I’m ‘well endowed’ as OP puts it. Even when I was much slimmer I didn’t have wired bras. Twice I’ve been persuaded to buy wired by super saleswomen. One was M&S, both times the bra was uncomfortable to the point of pain and rubbed my skin. Always unwired Triumph Doreen now! And Sloggi pants!
Wired and non padded, can't stand padded bras but find it takes longer to find ones that are comfortable but as I've got older have become bigger busted. Bobs are not very sexy anymore I'm afraid but as it's usually only me that sees them it doesn't matter!
We got a lovely fitted kitchen including fitted washing machine and the second time I used the washing machine one of the wires from my bra came out and broke the machine ! I was mortified and from that day on I use laundry bags to put my bras in. I never used to wear underwire bras as I couldn't find a comfortable one but I went to be measured and was fitted with a Triumph bra and never looked back.
To all of you who find wired bras uncomfortable: are you quite sure you are choosing the right size?
If you are wearing the right size, measured under your bosom, then you need to adjust the straps, because a bra rides up if the shoulder straps are too tight.
Having said this, I admit that bras are like anything else, some makes are a good fit, others are not, so find the manufacturer whose product suits you.
I always wash my wired bras in a cotton bag, and usually remember to check the stitching holding the wires in place at regular intervals, so no, I have never had a wire in the works of the washing machine.
Sorry, if this sounds self-righteous, that is not how it is meant, I do assure you!
Oh yes, Elrel, Sloggi knickers are brilliant! Also I agree about unwired bras for the well endowed. I'm a DD but some years ago I went from wired to unwired. Oh, the comfort! With the "right" bra (wide straps every time) I find my unwired bras are just as supportive. And there are some pretty ones to be found.
I decided to become wireless last week after a lot of discomfort and itching. I was worried it was something sinister until I had a light-bulb moment and realised it was the wiring, size and fabric giving me trouble. I ordered a cotton-rich non-wired bra from M & S and the next size up - result: pure comfort and no more worrying. I blame Trinny & Susannah for the underwired habit I got into it.
I can’t wear wired any more, they hurt my rib cage. I wonder why there aren’t more pretty unwired ones around.? They are all plain and boring like t shirt bras.
I have not worn a wired bra since I was in my teens, when a wire broke through and came out of its cup. The majority of bras appear to be wired and padded, so I have to seek out non-padded, non-wired bras that come in big cup sizes - not easy but I will never purchase another wired bra.
I have always worn non wired and have read that there may be a link with wired bras and Breast Cancer.Mine are from M and S from the Total range no padding but give good support. I choose the ones with high cotton content but they do a range of styles and sizes including my 42c. They are in boxes in store not hanging with the other bras.
