Cream foundation recommendations please

I don’t wear foundation often but recently, when I do, it all just sits in my creases and makes them worse!
After a bit of research, I gather that ‘cream’ foundations are better for mature skin.
I originally thought mine was cream but now think it’s liquid foundation.

Googling just confuses me so I’m hoping some of you wise women might be able to help me please.
What cream foundations can you recommend?

Thanks

I would have thought a cream foundation would accentuate lines.

The one I liked best was a Clarins tinted foundation but, as always seems to happen, it was discontinued about seven years ago. I tried lots of different - some quite expensive - foundations but wasn't especially impressed. I now use Rimmel Match Perfection foundation which is cheap and, I think, just as good as the expensive ones.

Clinique CC cream gives a lovely even coverage and you don't need much

Don't know about you Flaxseed but I'm more confused now than when I started reading!

lesley4357 I work full time and commute so I haven't got a lot of time. It take no more than five mins the moisturizer and bases goes on before i make my tea by the time I have made a cup of tea its set. The full make up, eyes and all takes no more than 15 mins. As Silverlining47 says the look Fabulous rang is meant to be good and they have a fantastic video blog that demonstrates how to look fab in 20 mins,

Don’t always wear foundation but last year I discovered L’Oreal CC cream which is a white cream which develops into a colour on the skin. Suited me perfectly. Except I went to Boots this week to replace it and L’Oreal don’t do that one any more. What they seem to have replaced it with was very runny. I will look for the Aldi one which someone has suggested as I am a big fan of their moisturising creams.

HELP! I've almost always used make-up every day: moisturiser, primer, foundation, loose powder. Then a couple of weeks ago I looked in the mirror wearing my reading glasses and was horrified to see my make-up. Without specs it looks fine. The powder looked heavy.
My pores looked huge and the pores on my nose (it's large although I wouldn't say totally ugly but the end is very slightly bulbous and pinkish) were full of foundation, there was a polka dot effect. Actually my make-up looked pretty awful. Can anyone offer a solution to the foundation settling in my nose pores? BB and CC creams are even worse.

I'd like to find a range of make-up not tested on animals. I have tried Body Shop but it looked rather 'cakey' in my magnifying mirror. Any suggestions?

OldMeg Thu 17-May-18 22:42:28

anno check out Bare Minerals they are cruelty free, not tested on animals.

Boots No 7 intelligent colour is brilliant

I must be in a minority of one.
Tempted by a Look Fabulous Forever offer I bought some products, a foundation, a silvery grey liquid eyeliner and a lipstick. I wish I hadn’t bothered!
The foundation looked heavy and (dare I say ageing) TG I hadn’t bought a primer as well, the lippy was matte and looked dry although long lasting (too long lasting) , but again looked so old ladyish (or like those mask faced harridans who man the beauty counters in department stores.)
The eyeshadow was OK but nothing to write home about.
The video showed the founder who I took to be a well preserved 80 and then found to my horror she was younger than me (just turned 70) The whole effect was heavy and frankly trying too hard.
Bobbi Brown or Liz Earle for me or Bare Minerals (if you like powder)
But just as even well-made clothes can be ageing, fashions in make up change and I think it is wise to remember that “less is more”

I do agree Maw. I have a horror of wearing too much make up and looking like the elderly Barbatra Cartland. I dont think heavy make up on a 'more mature' face looks good.

Personally I opt for a tinted moisturiser with sun protection for eveyday wear. Light but with just a hint.

I only use anything ‘stronger’ at night when I go out ...which is almost never.

annodomini Fri 18-May-18 10:01:42

Thanks for the tip, Oldmeg.
Maw, I too have tried the 'Look Fabulous' range and found it disappointing. The lipstick recommended for my colouring was OK, but, as usual, I couldn't keep it on - even with the lip primer. I do like the blusher but it's a lot pricier than others that are just as effective. I do love Liz Earle' products.
I used to buy the Barbara Daley blushers from Tesco, but a few years ago they disappeared.

Another one here who has tried the Look Fabulous Forever Foundation, primer and eye shadow. I sent the foundation back as it was very dry looking on my face, and not a good colour. I haven't got too many lines, but do have pores that show up. So many of the foundations just sort of "sit" in the pores so close up it looks cloggy. I'm pretty fed up with spending out on foundations and then finding they're no good. I used to use a Max Factor one for years, and then they stopped doing it, so bought the replacement version and oh my, it was so orange ! Horrid. Why have so many foundations got this horrid orange/beigy look? At the mo I use the Clinique Even Better which is ok... but again, spent out trying to find the right shade. Oh the trials of trying to be beautiful grin

Can't beat a tinted moisturiser if you have a tendency to creasing. Some also have SPF which we need all year round not just when the sun shines. Before I found one that suited me I would ask for a sample or book a makeover which many in store cosmetic counters will do for free.

I don't use it often but mine is a kind of mousse, its brilliant. Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse.

I think I've said on another thread somewhere I've tried every foundation known to woman over the years including LFF and Mally and Doll 10 which both cover well but I can't seem to find the right colour to suit me. I've had the colour matching done by No 7 but it didn't stay on enough even though I use a primer over moisturiser. The one I come back to all the time is Bare Minerals complexion rescue which just seems to blend in and look natural. I sometimes use the BM mineral veil over it which is very fine and other days I use the BM original powder instead. I have a Doll 10 motorised brush which is very good for blending as I think that seems to be the secret to getting a good coverage and not having everything settle into the cracks age imperfections grin

Flaxseed.

Do try this. It’s a lovely creamy foundation in a pot with its own sponge.

Max Factor Miracle Touch skin smoothing foundation.
Comes in many shades.

I’d go to your local Boots beauty counter and tell them what you’ve told us. Start with Boots No.7 then try one of the others such as Benefit a few days later. Clarins products are fab and never irritate my skin. Been using them since I hit 40yo. Clinique; Vichy; Maybelline; Chanel. I’d try them all. There’s no obligation to purchase but do listen to the advice from the beauty consultants, then go with the products you like. Ooh, you can have lots of fun trying out new make-up!

Look fabulous forever website. Lots of good tips

Cherrytree59 Sat 19-May-18 22:30:28

Grandmama I have recently started using an Avon primer for open pores
Which I apply before using either number 7 intelligent colour or Number 7 BB
tinted cream.

It seems to cover the pores quite well under make-up

Barmeyoldbat Sun 20-May-18 08:27:21

When I do use it I use Bobby Browns and I apply moisturiser first works well but the best I find is fresh air!

Luckygirl Sun 20-May-18 09:43:29

Excuse my ignorance but what is foundation FOR? I have never been near anything like that in my whole life and wonder what its purpose is.

If it sits in the wrinkles and emphasizes them and you mind about that then why use anything at all?

Flaxseed Sun 20-May-18 10:00:31

Thanks everyone!!
So many suggestions!

I’d love to try them all to find the perfect one. I bought a Maybelline one last week, which has been recommended on other sites and was more of a cream than a liquid.
However, my skin feels tight and dry and I think that’s my problem.
My hair has become very dry recently, and despite using a decent moisturiser, I am really struggling with my skin too.
I actually don’t wear a lot of make up and was wanting the foundation for DD’s wedding in a few weeks.
So, after weighing up all the options, I think I might settle for a tinted moisturiser.

Thanks for all the suggestions for online purchases but I struggle with colour matching when I have the products in front of me, so there’s no hope of getting the right colour online!
And regarding asking make up counter assistants - I am yet to find one that seems truely interested/knowledgeable! hmm

I’ll set out on my quest for tinted moisturisers now...... fingers crossed grin

I'm with you on this one Luckygirl. Up close I rarely see make-up enhancing older faces. I think it's probably good to use moisturiser and a sun block on the face, but I suppose you use what gives you confidence. It's natural to want to look the best you can but there's a hugely profitable beauty industry benefiting from pushing stuff with over inflated claims.
