Melania - a shallow fashion thread

Doesn't Melania Trump always look fabulous? (except for that recent parka with the "Who cares" message).

I thought last night's yellow dress was absolutely stunning when they arrived at Blenheim Palace (did not think Teresa May's dress with a high split up the back was ideal for people following up steps behind her!) and today she looks gorgeous too. Her fashion sense is pretty much spot-on in my opinion.

Melania usually dresses quite well though her clothes are sometimes too tight. Howver I won’t criticise the poor woman. Anyone married to that boor has my sympathy.

Why do women continue to pull fellow women apart for what they wear or how they look!!!!

Yes after a certain age it doesn't matter how long you spend in the gym, upper arms lean towards flabby.

We are dammed if we try to be 'on trend' or 'classic'. Men just turn up in a suit, end of!! Come on gransnetters there has to be more to a women than what they wear in 2018!!

I liked Melania's dress, though yellow is one of my favourite colours anyway.

I think TM's red was a poor choice, given the red carpet and Guards' red uniform.

TM never looks quite right in her presumably expensive clothes, to my eye. They seem to bag in some places and too tight/short in others. I can't quite put my finger on it, though I suspect better underwear would help.

I've always admired Christine Lagard's style. Shows you can be business like and stylish at the same time.

Theresa had a tendency to lope about like a flamingo. She insists on wearing ankle grazer trousers which look as if they are just too short on her long legs. The look is compounded by her love of snug fitting little waisted jackets which again look as if they have shrunk.

Yes I know she's Prime Minister and none of it matters but she obviously spends a lot on clothes and she just needs a good mirror and an opinionated friend!

I disliked that yellow frock Melania wore for the evening do yesterday. It was far too Disney Princess, far too dramatic and frankly, too showy. I preferred the dress she wore earlier, a light coloured, fitted dress with a slim belt at the waist. It was stylish and drew the eye because of that, rather than because it was designed to ensure it stood out from all the other ball gowns on display at Blenheim.

I don't see Melania as beautiful, she's clearly had 'work' and also, she doesn't look natural or happy. If we're making comparisons, TM usually dresses in a way that suits her role. I wonder if she does have some back pain and hope she can fit pilates and yoga into her busy schedule, so she can reduce pain, strengthen muscles and improve posture. smile

Who looked wonderful considering the Trumps were somewhat late
I missed that (have been out) - do you mean that Trump was late for HM kitty?

His arrogance knows no bounds.

oldbatty Fri 13-Jul-18 19:44:01

re bare arms signaling vulnerability......nothing vulnerable about Michelle Obama.

Grandma70s Fri 13-Jul-18 19:40:35

I must say I prefer not to show my upper arms. They aren’t fat, but they are a bit flabby. It didn’t worry me until recently.

ffinnochio Fri 13-Jul-18 19:13:48

Think TM has a slight spinal problem.

What’s with the ‘no bare arms’ when women grow older? Why on earth not bare arms. It’s cooler when the heat’s up.

Unless one spends hours in the gym, then lack of muscle tone is bound to happen....so what.

Grandma70s Fri 13-Jul-18 18:49:17

I used to be 5’ 8”, or even 5’ 9” - I never really knew which - and although I stoop rather now because of health issues I NEVER stooped when I was younger and fitter. I was ballet trained. I can’t imagine trying to disguise my height, because I always felt it was an advantage.

I’m sure Theresa May has some physical reason for stooping a bit, and I don't think it matters.

kittylester Fri 13-Jul-18 18:11:49

As this is a shallow thread can I say that Melania looked very miserable when she met hm! Who looked wonderful considering the Trumps were somewhat late. I think she should adopt the Queen Mum's ploy of using an umbrella for support.

Panache Fri 13-Jul-18 17:55:21

Allsorts..........I am another that used to be a "stately 5' 6 and half.......now lost 2 and 6 inches........spodylitis resulting in a dowager`s hump does nothing to one`s posture!!!

T.M. is perhaps not perfect in her dress sense but with her health issue and the seriousness of her post demanding such a heavy work load and long hours,at 61 or so I think she manages very well and looks more than presentable most of the time.

allsortsofbags Fri 13-Jul-18 17:41:15

I had noticed TM's stoop and didn't think of spondylosis as a reason.

I should have thought of that as I have it and yes Maw has a point about tall people stooping. I'm only 5' 8" now but was 5' 10" and stooped much of my life.

sparklefizz reading 'Tells" is very interesting. As for style I'm often surprised by how many people with finance and advisors still make some bloopers.

Still I can't talk not much sense of style and no figure these days so I go for comfort and be damned.

Anyway good on TM for looking as good as she does as often as she does.

Jalima1108 Fri 13-Jul-18 17:22:27

Hillary Clinton was one who was transformed.

Panache Fri 13-Jul-18 17:20:32

I have seen some rather ugly ducklings transformed over the years, and at least we can present ourselves at the upper end by putting on our best look....................and if that fails remember........... many a book cover is average and very misleading...............the beauty comes from deep within.

Jalima1108 Fri 13-Jul-18 17:18:28

ps I think the picture posted by MawBroon is the later one.

Jalima1108 Fri 13-Jul-18 17:17:36

I preferred Christine Lagarde's hair when it was a bit shorter, and she looks far too tanned in the latest picture, which may have resulted in the deep wrinkles. The tanned look ages her - she is only 62!

However, she is very stylish.

Jalima1108 Fri 13-Jul-18 17:14:24

Perhaps if I was stretched, liposuctioned, new teeth, face lift, walked with a book on my head (tried that though) I may look better than at present.
No! I need new feet as well

Some have it, some don't.

Elrel Fri 13-Jul-18 17:09:09

kittylester, exactly what I was thinking as I enlarged Christine Lagarde's photograph for a closer look!

goldengirl Fri 13-Jul-18 17:07:02

I love Christine Lagarde's style including her hair.
Sorry but I thought Melania Trump's dress was rather OTT and Theresa May's split at the back too high.

Panache Fri 13-Jul-18 17:06:26

Jalima......
.............but I think any one of us,given the money and opportunities such people have at their finger tips, would look equally good.......
"You say I might but you would`nt"

However it is true some are born gifted in every department and some of us seem to lack in most.............but I honestly do think with time, money and the right people at your side, you can be made a whole lot better.
Of course the short cannot achieve added height or vice versa, but ever the optimist, I think most of us could and would look a whole lot better.
As for me I think I am well passed my sell by date!!!!

MawBroon Fri 13-Jul-18 17:05:48

???

trisher Fri 13-Jul-18 17:03:01

Does this make her Ofdonald?

MawBroon Fri 13-Jul-18 16:55:43

Saw this on FB and though of the opinions of TM’s red dress.

Jalima1108 Fri 13-Jul-18 16:43:53

Please come and sort me out MawBroon smile
