Sorry Meghan, Kate wins hands down today.
Those trousers are awful.

merlotgran Sat 14-Jul-18 16:00:47

Kate's dress is lovely.

Cherrytree59 Sat 14-Jul-18 16:05:46

Missed the trousers!
Thought Meghan's blouse (although colour and stripes were appropriate for Wimbledon) looked a little bulky.
May have been ok when she stood up.
I will have to look on catch up later.
It is now DH's turn with the remotegrin

merlotgran Sat 14-Jul-18 16:09:32

I was itching to straighten the back of Meghan's blouse collar

annsixty Sat 14-Jul-18 16:27:57

When she is talking to the ball girls/boys ,the trousers are sweeping the floor.
She will need to get the Persil out when she gets home,

MawBroon Sat 14-Jul-18 17:13:19

Oh I thought we might be talking tennis dresses!
They get skimpier and skimpier each year it seems and while today’s finalists are “not guilty m’lud “ I have been getting tired of seeing nipples, belly buttons and little tummies very much showing through tight stretchy dresses.
I appreciate our heatwave may be nothing by US standards, but Serena Williams seems to go to the other extreme and if she were much more covered up, she’d be in a burka.
Whatever happened to pretty dresses and frilly knickers? Or indeed simple shorts and a top à la Billy Jean King?

Anniebach Sat 14-Jul-18 17:24:27

Serena Williams does not look good in those long sleeved dresses with tight fitting stretchy tops . I am not sorry frilly knickers have gone .

Williams lost, well played Angelique ?

Anniebach Sat 14-Jul-18 17:31:03

Kate does look lovely, cool and relaxed in that dress

humptydumpty Sat 14-Jul-18 17:34:04

For me, Meghan absolutely outshines Kate, love her shirt and tied back hair, I feel Kate looks old fashioned and frumpy in comparison (though I've only seen them sitting down..)

Gagagran Sat 14-Jul-18 17:53:26

Serena has to wear special clothing because she has a blood clotting disorder, which nearly killed her in childbirth less than one year ago. I think she was amazing to make it to the final given that.

merlotgran Sat 14-Jul-18 17:58:42

Kate looks lovely when her hair is in a bun. I wish she'd do it more often.

Anniebach Sat 14-Jul-18 18:40:30

Thank you Gagagran, as Serena and her sister did at one time have a fashion company I thought the dress was a new look for tennis, poor woman.

Anniebach Sat 14-Jul-18 18:42:07

merlot, as someone who has had long hair for years I can understand Kate wanting to wear her hair down when relaxing.

Charleygirl Sat 14-Jul-18 18:46:56

Serena's dress looked too tight and the long sleeves looked awful.

I thought that Kate's dress suited her perfectly.

oldbatty Sat 14-Jul-18 19:50:51

oh God, I'd forgotten the frilly knickers.

That weird hovering thing they do before they hit it, in the frilly knickers.

oldbatty Sat 14-Jul-18 19:52:10

the thought of Megs scrubbing her trews with Persil.

Jalima1108 Sat 14-Jul-18 20:35:46

I was going to mention the special support tights and sleeves Serena has to wear because of the blood clots she suffered when she gave birth, but Gagagran has already mentioned that.

Well done, Serena for coming back so soon and for playing whilst wearing those - they can be very hot at the best of times, but I admit I was worried for her. Presumably she has had the all clear and the best of medical advice.

Jalima1108 Sat 14-Jul-18 20:37:27

And congratulations to Angelique!

OldMeg Sat 14-Jul-18 21:07:38

I thought both young Duchesses looked very smart and suitably dressed. I’m glad Meghan did not choose to ape Kate’s style but felt able to be different.

Serena looked very hot and uncomfortable.

Deedaa Sat 14-Jul-18 22:01:32

I like the fact that Serena has shown young women that you can be successful after childbirth without starving yourself down to a size 6.

inishowen Sun 15-Jul-18 09:52:16

The frilly knickers were awful. The same as baby girls wore over their nappies.

pollyperkins Sun 15-Jul-18 09:52:24

I've just looked at the pictures. I thought Meghan looked smart until I saw a full length photo showing wide trousers trailing on the floor. Not a good look. Kate's dress is lovely.

Assuming we Gransnetters are of a not hugely dissimilar age, I remember in the 60s wearing massively huge wide trousers (not just bell bottoms) and in early 70s, having trousers so long that they not only dragged along the ground, but so long that we all tore off the hems after the trousers had been worn/washed a few times before the hems fell off.
Fashions come around again eventually.

harrysgran Sun 15-Jul-18 10:09:56

Frilly knickers are a definite no hard to believe grown women actually wore them shorts or skirts with shorts attached are the way forward if they have any hope of being treat as equals to the male tennis players

mabon1 Sun 15-Jul-18 10:32:27

I sincerely hope that all the gransnetters making disparaging remarks about the two duchesses are perfectly turned out on every occasion. Nasty lot some of you.
