I'm looking for good quality, simple* cotton t-shirts and don't seem to be able to find any that don't cost a fortune.

*where simple means: crew neck, not too high and not too low; short sleeves but not cap sleeves, some hip-skimming shaping or straight sides; sensible sizing, i.e. designed to hang rather than cling. And made of a decent thickness of pure cotton.

Suggestions, anyone? TY in anticipation.

M&S have a variety of cotton T-shirts. Some are only £3.50!

Go on Amazon and tap in 'Charles Wilson' they are great T shirts , all plain colours and come in sets of two, threes , fives....and you can have a mix of colours . Hard wearing and extremely washable, my hubby swears by them. Little thick material for me though. Have a look ... They just might tick your box!

Another big fan of Bon Marche. It's the only shop where everything fits nicely and they have a good choice.

You CAN buy them from M&S about £8.00, I've had a few this year.

Cotton Traders! Their own T shirts. Lovely soft cotton, a range of colours, decent length (not skimpy), choice of neckline, and a reasonable price.

Bon Marche are good value for money. With white t shirts if you get one summer out of them they are cheap enough to replace the following year if they have gone off!!!

Lands End - sign up to them and they do massive deductions every now and then. They’re good quality and decent shapes. I do find the M and S cheap ones only look ok for a couple of wearings. I guess that’s fair enough for the price.

I bought a beautiful white top in Sainsburys this week but I do appreciate that they are here today and gone tomorrow.

M&S have finally got a grown-up T: www.marksandspencer.com/l/women/tops-and-tshirts?facets=2495270230,4294962750,4294963794&slider_Current_Min=0&slider_Current_Max=80&sortBy=product.is_new|1
And it's £6.50!

Try Tesco mens' wear section. I haven't bought womens' T's for years .I am skinny so find small is large enough and they are stronger and wash well.

valeriej43 Sun 22-Jul-18 11:41:36

Sainsburys have some lovely ones in their sale if you are near a Sainsburys,
I am assuming of course that all branches have a sale on
I got a couple of lovely ones for £4 each. and lovely colours, ,plain and patterned, mine are a lovely sunshine yellow

I have a drawer full of M&S and Cotton Traders t-shirts in a variety of colours, though why I have bought so many in shades of pink I cannot quite explain. All of them have sleeves that hide the worst of my bingo wings and all have been washed many times without losing shape. I prefer v-neck styles as I have a short neck but have taken to scoop necks too.

I discovered ORVIS this year. Not cheap but great quality and I know the clothes I bought will last a long time.

Dinnersready Sun 22-Jul-18 12:06:14

Lidl men's t shirts suit me. Plain quiet colours, crew neck, plenty of length, wash well, a fiver for 3. Might not be stylish enough for some though.

gillyknits Sun 22-Jul-18 12:27:17

I agree with Mini Moon, the M&Co ones are good quality. Was in there yesterday and they’ve got a sale on. Elbow length sleeve, round or v neck £6. Worth looking at the web site.

Bon Marche for me too. If I buy from Cotton Traders I have to buy a size larger than my normal size. But Bon Marche are true to size and wash well without fading

Barleysugar Sun 22-Jul-18 13:32:16

Lands End Clothing for me too. Very good quality.

Amazed at suggestions of Seasalt, I've had two, both presents, both ended up looking like bits of rag with the seams all skewiff after washing.

gillybob Sun 22-Jul-18 13:36:58

I’ve had mine for donkeys years and they’re still like brand new muddynails they’re gorgeously soft and have been washed more times than I can remember . No crooked seams either . confused

Charleygirl Sun 22-Jul-18 13:50:42

I have had some Bon Marche tops for many years and they wash and wash never losing shape. Baggs I hope we have convinced you to look on line.

BonnieBlooming Sun 22-Jul-18 14:18:39

M&S boatneck half sleeve. Plain and patterned. Wash well, tumble dry well. Still wearing last year's plus some new ones this year. Bon Marche plain t shirts only fit for pj tops after a couple of washes but some of their patterned ones are ok, tend to do shorter sleeves though.

Camelotclub Sun 22-Jul-18 14:21:17

As previously stated, Bon Marche are good value.

Loads of branches too, some of them in garden centres!

Camelotclub Sun 22-Jul-18 14:22:16

Meant to add, i can't wear boat or scoop neck as I have broad shoulders and they show my bra straps, which thanks to DH's washing skills, are mostly grey.

Has anyone bought the uniglo t-shirts. I'm wondering about the sizing. In Marks I'm a 12, primary I'm 14.
I've just seen that they do that beautiful yellow/ mustard colour that I love.

Brigidsdaughter Sun 22-Jul-18 15:07:09

I've had a couple of Uniqlo pieces. Excellent. My problem being my size. You need to go a size up. Try on.
Really good stuff. DH has numerous vests from there
