I'm looking for good quality, simple* cotton t-shirts and don't seem to be able to find any that don't cost a fortune.

*where simple means: crew neck, not too high and not too low; short sleeves but not cap sleeves, some hip-skimming shaping or straight sides; sensible sizing, i.e. designed to hang rather than cling. And made of a decent thickness of pure cotton.

Suggestions, anyone? TY in anticipation.

PS plain colours.

If you ever find them baggs, please let me know. I've been trawling the internet looking for exactly the same thing. I want a set of three. I'd buy three single ones in different colours. You used to be able to go to M&S for them, but not these days.

Have you looked at Cotton Traders Baggs ?

MawBroon Sat 21-Jul-18 18:09:51

M&S (yes) do a boat neck half sleeve (just above the elbow) in “not bad “ cotton.

Seasalt Cornwall . Organic cotton . Lots of colours to choose from . Not cheap ( 2 for £40 I think) but they do last for ever .

I haven't bought these t shorts, but have been pleased with other items from Uniqlo. Possibly worth a try.

Baggs Have a look at Bon Marche I bought 3 last month in a decent weight cotton in black/white/red all with good length sleeves and had a square neckline, but they did them with a round/crew neck.
I haven't bought t-shirts for quite a while but I am pleased with these.They where £6.00 each.

MiniMoon Sat 21-Jul-18 18:46:15

Loads here baggs. www.mandco.com/women/tops/t-shirts-and-vest-tops/ The plain crew neck ones appear to be slim fit though. There are some good colours, I might take a closer look.

I have a couple from John Lewis, very nice. Cotton 100% and a nice round but not high neck.
I got them last year and they have washed beautifully..
The style number is 660 693, but of course I don't know if it stilll in stock.

Ooh! Thank you for all the suggestions, some of which brands are new to me. Better get searching.

M and S have some loose fit ones in plain colours for £3.50.

Kettlewell Colours is the site for you! Endless size, shapes and, above all - colours!

barbaralynne Sun 22-Jul-18 09:03:28

I have used Cotton Traders for years but bought a t-shirt earlier this year from them and the cotton is so thin I won't be buying another.

NanaLovejoy Sun 22-Jul-18 09:12:13

White Stuff, Seasalt, (look for sales)....and surprisingly, i bought three Warehouse v neck short sleeve this year which haved proved well worth it. Oh...and dont forget a good look in H&M can prove very fruitful as well as cheap!

Try Matalan if there's one near you

Boden ?

I agree about Bon Marche. Plain, good quality and good sizing. I wear them a lot.

Charleygirl Sun 22-Jul-18 09:23:49

I am also a fan of Bon Marche and they have good sales on line at present. Not everything will be to your liking but I am sure you will find something at a very reasonable price.

paperbackbutterfly Sun 22-Jul-18 09:27:39

Bon Marche is my 'go to' shop as well. I miss Littlewoods, BHS and C&A as so few places stock the everyday clothes I like to wear.

caci Sun 22-Jul-18 09:35:05

Try Primark mens section. Some of their T shirts are thin and nasty, but others seem to keep their shape and wash well. Sizing is tricky. I am size 8, and 5ft tall, and I find mens XS fine for a close fit, and mens S better for a more casual fit.

Rosina Sun 22-Jul-18 09:49:30

The M and S boat neck half sleeves T shirts are pretty good; the label says that they are 100% cotton but the fabric seems slightly stiffer than those I have bought in previous years. They are also a decent length. Nice to be able to praise something from M and S for a change - went in on Thursday last and after a look around I left reeling at the garish colours and strange styles - they also seem to have a fair amount of nylon type fabrics yet again this year. This after announcing that they would be stocking more natural fibres. I thought nylon had died the death many years ago as an impossibly hot and sticky fabric but - no!
