Oo, I'm obviously going to be in the fashion. I went looking for burgundy ankle boots in our local Pavers yesterday, but they haven't got their autumn/winter stock in yet. Going back at the beginning of next month but thanks for all the ideas for wearing them.

ankle Boots?
(76 Posts)Don't laugh, Just bought my first pair of ankle boots, I know it's sad. They are burgundy in colour with a small heel. Haven't a clue what to wear with them. I seem to live in straight leg trousers, but the bottoms don't comfortably fit over the top of the boot, do I tuck it in? won't they come out? Don't want to look daft, just trying to upgrade my non existent style! Should say I'm not exactly slim and 5'2 3/4!! Any advice please
I prefer wearing boots to shoes,i have just ordered a new pair of black ankle boots and will wear them with trousers and jeans.
I wear ankle boots all winter and straight leg trousers. My trousers just fit in but I wear leggings and black thick tights with them which fit better, wear them with trousers, skirts or dresses, anything goes. Also sometimes for extra warmth wear a pair of thick jazzy colourful socks that come up out of the boot and I then turn them over the top. Enjoy making your own design.
Bought two pairs of Clarke's suede ankle boots late last year, in the sale, one Navy and one Burgandy. So I am all set. That being said I really must throw a black pair out.
I wear mine with leggings, jeans, and trousers. With the leggings option, I find I can wear a mini skirt
It looks fine. I have taken advice of my DiL who would certainly say so if it looked strange.
Ankle boots are my go to footwear in Winter.
I have 11 pairs of boots including Fiorelli ginger suede kitten heel mid-calf, khaki leather ankle lace-ups with sheepskin lining and cuff, black suede with a cuban heel, tan suede double ankle strap, plum moc-croc, pale grey suede and cobalt blue suede.
I'll probably buy a couple more pairs this winter as you can wear them anytime and with most outfits really. I have lots of thick plain coloured new tights to wear when the weather dictates.
Don't know if they will get them in again this winter, but last year M&S had stretchy slim trousers with the elastic under the foot - like the ones we used to wear many years ago. Bought a couple of pairs. Hoping I can get some more this gear as going to Switzerland for N.Y. They are fantastic as the stay put inside ankle boots.
Last year in Pavers' sale, I bought a pair of burgundy ankle boots, with a cuban heel.
I only take size 2 shoes, and these boots are so comfortable, and look smart. Am looking out for any more bargains at Pavers. Not many shops sell my size.
It's fashionable to wear ankle grazers (trousers) with ankle boots. That is, trousers that come just at the top of the ankle bone. All your straight let trousers would be perfect to wear, just take up a couple of hems at the bottom.
GabriellaG, I love them! I'm too embarrassed to say how many pairs I have!
I bought 2 pairs last year but only wear them with skinny jeans or leggings. I tried with a skirt and dress but I looked a bit like a Shetland pony.(I'm 5ft 2)
GabriellaG- where do you get your coloured tights /leggings? !
Libra10 I also take size 2 and buy on line from Pavers, there aren't any shops here (North East) where I can try on. I love my mock crock ankle boots and thick tights with skirt or dress
I brought a pair a couple of years ago and haven't worn them yet. Reading what everyone else wears with them has given me a lot of ideas. Roll on the colder weather can't wait to give them a run out.
Be careful of tucking trousers into boots, it can look a bit like principal boy in a pantomime. Fine with leggings or really slim trousers with thick socks. I think the bottom of your trousers should just meet the top of your boots. Having said all of that, just wear what you like, if you think you look good why not!
At 65, I’ve just bought my first pair of Doc Martens, and flowery at that. They will be my new walking boots - from the house to the car and back again. I think they are going to take some breaking in...
Cropped straight leg trousers or jeans are the thing this year and should be about an inch above the top of your boots.
Or you could go retro and wear flares that cover the whole boot and almost reach the ground but probably not if you aren't very tall.
Or as others have suggested, a straight knee length skirt with thick tights.
Eurgh, an inch above the top of your boots sounds like what the teenagers I used to teach called “jack-ups” and about which they were entirely scathing!
Hi hapgran
Topshop, Primark, River Island, JL, M&S, Zara...most High Street shops and many supermarkets.
I buy cheap and higher end brands but really, IMO, they are all good.
I usually buy Falke and Wolford for the wool mix and raised pattern thicker ones.
The ones pictured are a small sample of the unopened ones I bought last year. I like the 'TightsTightsTights' mustard ones...crazy eh

but I wouldn't wear neon colours.
I'm a size 14 and 5-6 1/2, and wear a size 6.5 - 7 shoe (40-41 Eur) so buy L for the length and so they're not stretched to the limit.
Happy shopping.
PS. Obvs not my legs.
Primark tights were £3 for 3 pairs
Others shown were £3.50 - £3.99
All made in Italy.
Oh GabriellaG I have boot envy.
Those blue ones look gorgeous. My poor arthritic feet would refuse to even fit into them. While I’m here can I ask what we do if our ankle boots have fur around them? I bought some wonderfully comfortable reiker ankle boots but they have a fur trim but oh the most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned,
So tucked in or out?

Hi
I bought those boots on a whim in an M&Co sale for £20 but they had reduced further to £18 when I got to the till.
The fur-cuffed walking/winter boots I wear with skinny or straight-leg jeans or Sprayaway walking trousers (which are straight anyway)
I just let them ruckle up at the ankle.
Tucking in can be a bother as when you sit down they invariably come out.
I do have leg warmers (remember them in the 80s?) which had a mini resurgence a couple of years ago. I wear them when on group walks in winter.
I think whatever you thinks looks best on you...never mind what anyone else thinks, although it is nice to have someone admire what you're wearing.
I am wearing my maroon leather Hotter slouchy lower calf height boots today, for the first time this season. Worn with a grey mid thigh length tunic and grey jeggings, tucked in. I got them last winter off eBay for £10
I also have a pair of more dressy Clarks taupe leather ankle boots with a smallish stubby heel.
A pair of Reiker tan leather lace up walking boots with coloured Aztec style fabric around the collar.
A pair of Pavers maroon ankle lace ups, they are finer leather.
A pair of brown Clarks lace up shoe-boots with a two inch stubby stacked heel. A bit like a brogue with a heel.
Whatever trousers/jeggings/jeans I wear, one of these pairs will suit.
Think I'll go and have a look at eBay.
used to have a pair of monkey boots when I was younger bit like a smaller version of doc martins
I am SO jealous! I have such awkward feet that I find it depressing shopping for footwear. I am also only 5ft tall, and invariably have to shorten any trousers I buy. Tights are always too long, and wrinkle around my ankles!
Looking on the bright side, my sensible-eating campaign is working, and I can get into clothes that didn't fit me a while back. Unfortunately if I continue to lose weight it means trekking around the shops trying to find new clothes that both fit me and look good.
Bootcut jeans or trousers are best - specially designed for wearing with ankle boots. Also have the benefit of making your legs look longer if you are short like me (5'3").
