Nivea cream

Having read a lot lately about the virtues of Nivea cream in the little blue tin, I thought I would try it. However I find it virtually impossible to penetrate the skin, it is like axle grease. Is there a secret to applying this cream. I have used No 7 for years now but thought I would give Nivea a try as I could see my skin was drying out with regukar No 7.

, but

I use it on my hands and really rub hard into them. I use the Nivea Lotion on my arms, legs and body - but only Child's Farm lotion on my face.

I s it any easier after a shower when the pores are more relaxed? Its interesting you should mention Nivea. I have used quite "greasy" anti wrinkle type cream for mature skin for years and all of a sudden my skin has changed and I am now back to the original O**y fluid which seems to suit much better.

I've always used Nivea but nowadays there is a Nivea soft which sinks into the skin better.

My Mum used it religiously and had the loveliest soft and young skin right up to her death in her late 70’s.
Perhaps she had something there.

Is it Joan Collins who says she uses Nivea cream?

Well, so she says.

MissAdventure Tue 06-Nov-18 18:15:10

Joanna Lumley too, I read somewhere.

Jalima1108 Tue 06-Nov-18 18:18:23

It would be cheaper than my Cl***ns

Old fashioned Nivea is very greasy, but sometimes very useful! The newer Nivea Soft in a tube, is a useful all round moisturiser.

My Mum had lovely skin too until she died in her mid 80s. She used either Pond's Cold Cream then later on Yardleys face cream which came in a little pot.

I'm very susceptible to this kind of thing.
I'm going to buy some (Nivea, not the other)

I think Joanna Lumley said she uses Astral. Can you still get it?

rockgran Tue 06-Nov-18 18:36:04

I love Astral but can't get on with Nivea.

Jalima1108 Tue 06-Nov-18 18:36:23

I used to think that Nivea in a tub was too thick to use on the face, it dragged the skin.

MissAdventure Tue 06-Nov-18 18:36:31

Oh yes, it may well have been astral.

One of my Sisters-IL swears by Aldi's own face cream (and she has lovely skin).

MissAdventure Tue 06-Nov-18 18:38:56

I think the Aldis one came out as comparable to the top of the range ones in tests.
I did start using it. Then I stopped, and I can't remember why.
I think we stopped shopping there.

Jalima1108 Tue 06-Nov-18 18:47:13

We haven't got an Aldi nearby.

MissAdventure Tue 06-Nov-18 18:52:02

I think I was going to order some from eBay, but it was a pound or so more than in Aldis, so I wouldn't part with my money! blush
The next time we physically went there, I'd forgotten which cream it was.

I use Aldi, they have a very nice serum in the range, also one especially fir mature skin too. They have one moisturiser with spf 20 fir £1.49.
Their sun cream range beat all the rest in the which magazine last year, and it is very cheap.
Don’t believe in spending a small fortune on upmarket ‘names’, Aldi suits me fine.

Lidl face cream is quite nice. Smells good too.

I used Astral for years and I think it is quite good. I found Nivea as described - too thick and hard to apply.

I use Extraordinary Oil-Cream from L'Oreal now, which is not as cheap but fairly affordable and a bit lighter.

pensionpat Tue 06-Nov-18 23:58:21

Astral used to make soap. It was a lovely curved shape.

I've found Nivea impossible to use. For the reasons pp have stated. I wondered what all the fuss was about and last year I tried it. Awful stuff.
I've resumed my L'oreal Age Perfect.

The "original" in the blue tin is very thick - I use it on my hands with wonderful effects. For my face I've been using Nivea Soft in the white jar, a beautiful cream which has given me good results. I'd highly recommend it.
