The wind was whistling roond the trossachs

I wear whatever keeps me warm even if I look like the Michelin man, in the house or outdoors, couldn't care less. I walk the beach with my dog most mornings and most of the regular dog walkers wrap up warmly too.

I wear my leggings under my trousers, I have "it's cold leggings" ordinary ones and "it's fecking freezing leggings" fleece lined.
I also have a fur lined gilet I wear under my coat if it's really cold.
Every winter I look like the Michelin Man, I am certain folks think I have been on a crash diet when they see me in Spring !!

On Tuesday my order of the day was long underpants, as DH and I were going to the dentist and going to do some shopping as well, and the wind here goes through you like a knife.

I knew if I didn't TELL him to put them on, he wouldn't, and be miserable with the cold. I wore leggings under my jeans and a down filled winter jacket, plus ski-gloves. I also asked as we left the house, whether he had remembered his gloves,

Fine weather for cleaning windows, as it is dry and overcast.

Can anyone recommend really warm gloves for driving? I wore a simple pair of leather gloves yesterday and the tips of my fingers were frozen!

My problem is that I dress warmly for my walk through the woods to get to the bus stop then a potentially draughty wait for a bus. Once I arrive at my destination the room is so warm that I'm absolutely boiling hot! I know layers are probably the answer but I don't feel like taking my vest off in public!

Wonder what Scottish gentlemen wear under their kilts when the weather turns frosty!? Something warm and woolly? A sporran wouldn't offer much comfort I would guess and could even produce a "sweaty crotch". Sorry! Doesn't bare thinking about!

Must be really cold where you live, fleece leggings and leggings under trousers.
I live in the SE and though it’s cold 3 at the mo. I would sweat like anything in them.
Jeans, leggings long warm jumpers my parka and boots when it’s cold or trainer and socks. Must admit it can be very mild here. Oh and me gloves if I have me gloves on I am warm and scarf .

My Dad used to wear his pyjama trousers under his trousers in cold weather.
Otoh - there was a bitter NE wind here yesterday, but I saw in town a few hardy folks still in shirt sleeves, no coats. and one plump young woman with a very revealing top.
They must be accustomed to the cold.

I almost always wear tights under trousers - not really a sock person.

Sparklefizz that's how I am too, even the summer we had, the least breeze on my arms and on went the cardigan.
Winters, and my legs don't function properly they get stiff and sore because of a circulation problem. When we had the " beast from the East " it made me cry, when I got back indoors of course.

Thankmyou kathyd, I hadn't thought of sheepskin. In fact I think I have some sheepskin mittens somewhere - I must look them out!

I've never worn tights or leggings under trousers because I assumed this would cause the trousers to stick to the legs through static.

Am I wrong about this?

I must be an odd person,I have ankle socks all the year round, except in the summer when wearing sandals, IF the temperature should drop to say minus 15 or lower, then I might have tights on, but then I am too warm indoors so have to take them off, I never wear a hat or beanie, wear gloves to the car but dont drive with them on. Will wear ,my Skechers as long as I can, boots when necessary.I think with having grown up in the North of England my body got used to the cold, now I hardly ever feel it, live in T shirts indoors all winter,I must add I now live in Sweden, when it does get cold but it doesnt worry me unless its really cold about -15-20 degrees.Of course the Swedes think I am mad, and I probably am!

Thermal leggings and vest when I go to the rugby. Wish I'd worn them today when I went shopping!

Ooh wish I was like those of you who don’t feel the cold. I’m fairly depressed at prospect of six months of feeling freezing! Raynauds in fingers etc. Roll on summer! Did buy some thermals made of bamboo, bizarrely, at Aldi which are amazing. Very comfortable, non-itchy. Just the shocking pink colour is disconcerting!

I think some people feel the cold and others do not. I do not think where you are brought up makes any difference.

I think you also feel the cold more as you get older - and it has nothing to do with being less active, which is the explanation usually trotted out. I am still more aacctive than when I was working, but feel the cold more.

Like you shizam, I have Reynauds Syndrome. In summer, I need only walk down the chiller section in the supermarket for my fingers start going numb.

I think all you warm ladies must have central
heating at home & the use of a car. We have neither & after waiting at the village bus stop for over 2 hours for 3 non-existent buses I was darn glad I was wearing three layers, plus boots, gloves, a scarf & quilted jacket...& we live on the South Coast.

I have a nice pair of sheepskin gloves but they make it a bit difficult to handle the controls in the car. I have another pair of fleece gloves with faux leather palms, a bit like ski gloves. These are fine for driving, though far from elegant! Today I was very glad of my fleecy-lined bootees. I can't be doing with cold extremities. Now I need to find the warm hat I seem to remember buying last winter.

I can't wear wool next to my skin so I wear some silky polyester pyjama bottoms under wool trousers, they also help the trousers to hang well and add a bit of warmth.

I wear 40 denier tights under trousers and jeans once the weather gets cold ,as today. Have some 60 denier ones for when it really is freezing out there. Sometimes wear socks as well with my ankle boots as they feel more comfortable than just tights.

I'm with you Jane: my thyroid condition means I am a martyr to over- heating: so embarrassing when the perspiration is dripping off your hair in the middle of winter.

I think tucking a longer length vest into big knickers helps , as does tucking your shirt into your jeans so warm air is trapped.
I'm wearing long socks under my jeans so no draughty gap and with a quilted gilet over my jumper I'm fine indoors.
Add padded coat, gloves and warm boots and it wasn't too bad outside earlier- far from glam but who cares? I'm warm! ?

Cotton leggings under denim trousers or jeans is quite wind proof lower body clothing.
