In my leggings, that is. Recommendations for a pair of warm trews please.

Some of the images conjured up here made me chuckle. Love the thought of tucking my long vest into my big knickers smile
I'm one of the over heating brigade, don't own a jumper and I am wearing toe post sandals around the house. No central heating and no heating of any sort in my bedroom plus an open window all night.
Summer is the season I dislike most.

M0nica
I was born cold
DH was born hot
That is until the menopause now I am often hot (although hands and feet are usually cold).
For some reason DH now feels the cold.

My sister and my little 4 yr old grandson are hot blooded, they are always as warm as toast.
My 5 year old grandson hates being cold, he is like me cold hands and feet.
He loves his snuggly dressing gown whereas his brother hates his and says its too warm!

I think the world is divided into those who feel the cold and those who don't and it is programmed into us from birth.

DH and DD walk round in T shirts and bare feet, when I am probably wearing three layers, tights, socks and fingerless gloves. My sister is much the same. We also both have Raynaud's Syndrome, that means our fingers go numb, at the slightest sudden drop in temperature and take a long time to come back to normal so we try to keep our hands and arms warm to stop that happeneing.

If I wore fleecey lined leggings I'd resemble the back half of a pantomime horse. I just wear thicker trousers, boots and so long as my neck & head are a warm, so is the rest of me. I rarely wear gloves - that's what pockets are for wink After about 10 minutes walking/gardening or whatever, I have to start stripping off as I become too hot and bothered

Cotton leggings under denim trousers or jeans is quite wind proof lower body clothing.

I think tucking a longer length vest into big knickers helps , as does tucking your shirt into your jeans so warm air is trapped.
I'm wearing long socks under my jeans so no draughty gap and with a quilted gilet over my jumper I'm fine indoors.
Add padded coat, gloves and warm boots and it wasn't too bad outside earlier- far from glam but who cares? I'm warm! ?

I'm with you Jane: my thyroid condition means I am a martyr to over- heating: so embarrassing when the perspiration is dripping off your hair in the middle of winter.

I wear 40 denier tights under trousers and jeans once the weather gets cold ,as today. Have some 60 denier ones for when it really is freezing out there. Sometimes wear socks as well with my ankle boots as they feel more comfortable than just tights.

I can't wear wool next to my skin so I wear some silky polyester pyjama bottoms under wool trousers, they also help the trousers to hang well and add a bit of warmth.

annodomini Thu 22-Nov-18 17:51:06

I have a nice pair of sheepskin gloves but they make it a bit difficult to handle the controls in the car. I have another pair of fleece gloves with faux leather palms, a bit like ski gloves. These are fine for driving, though far from elegant! Today I was very glad of my fleecy-lined bootees. I can't be doing with cold extremities. Now I need to find the warm hat I seem to remember buying last winter.

Leah50 Thu 22-Nov-18 17:21:21

I think all you warm ladies must have central
heating at home & the use of a car. We have neither & after waiting at the village bus stop for over 2 hours for 3 non-existent buses I was darn glad I was wearing three layers, plus boots, gloves, a scarf & quilted jacket...& we live on the South Coast.

I think some people feel the cold and others do not. I do not think where you are brought up makes any difference.

I think you also feel the cold more as you get older - and it has nothing to do with being less active, which is the explanation usually trotted out. I am still more aacctive than when I was working, but feel the cold more.

Like you shizam, I have Reynauds Syndrome. In summer, I need only walk down the chiller section in the supermarket for my fingers start going numb.

Shizam Thu 22-Nov-18 16:30:16

Ooh wish I was like those of you who don’t feel the cold. I’m fairly depressed at prospect of six months of feeling freezing! Raynauds in fingers etc. Roll on summer! Did buy some thermals made of bamboo, bizarrely, at Aldi which are amazing. Very comfortable, non-itchy. Just the shocking pink colour is disconcerting!

Blue45Sapphire Thu 22-Nov-18 16:15:35

Thermal leggings and vest when I go to the rugby. Wish I'd worn them today when I went shopping!

Nanny41 Thu 22-Nov-18 16:03:02

I must be an odd person,I have ankle socks all the year round, except in the summer when wearing sandals, IF the temperature should drop to say minus 15 or lower, then I might have tights on, but then I am too warm indoors so have to take them off, I never wear a hat or beanie, wear gloves to the car but dont drive with them on. Will wear ,my Skechers as long as I can, boots when necessary.I think with having grown up in the North of England my body got used to the cold, now I hardly ever feel it, live in T shirts indoors all winter,I must add I now live in Sweden, when it does get cold but it doesnt worry me unless its really cold about -15-20 degrees.Of course the Swedes think I am mad, and I probably am!

Ramblingrose22 Thu 22-Nov-18 15:19:48

I've never worn tights or leggings under trousers because I assumed this would cause the trousers to stick to the legs through static.

Am I wrong about this?

Willow10 Thu 22-Nov-18 14:58:59

Thankmyou kathyd, I hadn't thought of sheepskin. In fact I think I have some sheepskin mittens somewhere - I must look them out!

kathyd Thu 22-Nov-18 14:42:50

Willow10 sheepskin. I put mine into the car yesterday.

EllanVannin Thu 22-Nov-18 13:41:28

Sparklefizz that's how I am too, even the summer we had, the least breeze on my arms and on went the cardigan.
Winters, and my legs don't function properly they get stiff and sore because of a circulation problem. When we had the " beast from the East " it made me cry, when I got back indoors of course.

annifrance Thu 22-Nov-18 13:02:23

Damart Silk leggings. So cosy and warm.

maryhoffman37 Thu 22-Nov-18 12:52:00

I almost always wear tights under trousers - not really a sock person.

Fennel Thu 22-Nov-18 12:48:13

My Dad used to wear his pyjama trousers under his trousers in cold weather.
Otoh - there was a bitter NE wind here yesterday, but I saw in town a few hardy folks still in shirt sleeves, no coats. and one plump young woman with a very revealing top.
They must be accustomed to the cold.
For town read Toon.

Sheilasue Thu 22-Nov-18 12:39:03

Must be really cold where you live, fleece leggings and leggings under trousers.
I live in the SE and though it’s cold 3 at the mo. I would sweat like anything in them.
Jeans, leggings long warm jumpers my parka and boots when it’s cold or trainer and socks. Must admit it can be very mild here. Oh and me gloves if I have me gloves on I am warm and scarf .

Rufus2 Thu 22-Nov-18 12:36:40

Wonder what Scottish gentlemen wear under their kilts when the weather turns frosty!? wink Something warm and woolly? A sporran wouldn't offer much comfort I would guess and could even produce a "sweaty crotch". Sorry! Doesn't bare thinking about! sad

Jane10 Thu 22-Nov-18 12:23:34

My problem is that I dress warmly for my walk through the woods to get to the bus stop then a potentially draughty wait for a bus. Once I arrive at my destination the room is so warm that I'm absolutely boiling hot! I know layers are probably the answer but I don't feel like taking my vest off in public!
